Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: The Devil’s Promise

Rachel didn't sleep.

Even though the room Raziel assigned her was luxurious soft black sheets, velvet curtains, a chandelier that glowed like gold fire her body refused to rest.

Because no matter how beautiful the cage was…

It was still a cage.

She stood by the window, staring at the city, her reflection faint in the glass. She looked like a different woman now. Not the waitress. Not the fragile girl who trembled at alleyways.

Her eyes were sharper.

Her shoulders straighter.

Her heart…

Still confused.

She could still feel Raziel's presence from earlier, like a shadow that had crawled under her skin and refused to leave. His voice, cold and low, still echoed in her mind.

Death is mercy in my world, Rachel.

And somehow…

It didn't scare her as much as it should have.

She exhaled slowly, turning away from the window.

That's when she noticed something.

A tray.

It hadn't been there earlier.

Rachel froze.

The tray sat on the small table by the door. A cup of tea, steaming lightly, and beside it a single folded note.

Her heart skipped.

No one entered her room.

She would have heard the lock. The guards. The door.

Unless…

Her fingers trembled as she walked closer.

The note had no name.

No handwriting.

Just four words.

Drink it. Or die.

Rachel's blood ran cold.

She stared at the tea.

It smelled normal. Chamomile. Honey.

Too normal.

Her instincts screamed.

She grabbed the tray and threw the cup into the sink, letting the liquid spill out. Then she grabbed the note and marched toward the door.

She twisted the handle.

Locked.

Her breath caught.

Raziel said she was protected.

So why was she locked in?

She banged on the door. "Hello?!"

No answer.

Again. "Someone open this door!"

Silence.

Her heart began to pound violently.

She turned, scanning the room.

Nothing.

No cameras that she could see.

No hidden doors.

Just the thick curtains, the bed, and the city lights outside.

Then she noticed it.

A tiny red dot on the wall.

Rachel froze.

A laser.

A sniper.

Her stomach dropped.

She moved instinctively, diving behind the bed as the dot shifted across the room.

A gunshot shattered the window.

Glass exploded inward like rain.

Rachel screamed, rolling to the floor as another shot fired.

It hit the wall inches above her head.

She crawled, breathing hard, adrenaline surging through her veins.

Someone was trying to kill her.

Inside Raziel's mansion.

Inside the most guarded place in the city.

Which meant only one thing.

The enemy wasn't outside.

The enemy was already inside.

The House of Wolves

The door burst open.

Mikhail stormed in first, gun raised, eyes scanning.

Behind him, Ethan, Kai, and Leonardo entered, all armed.

"Rachel!" Ethan shouted.

"I'm here!" she cried from behind the bed.

Mikhail cursed under his breath and moved toward the shattered window.

Kai was already checking the hallway.

Leonardo rushed to Rachel, helping her stand.

"Are you hurt?"

Rachel shook her head, still shaking. "Someone shot at me."

Ethan's face darkened. "How did they even get a clear shot?"

Mikhail leaned out slightly and looked down.

Then he turned back.

His expression was deadly.

"They were inside the building opposite. Professional."

Rachel swallowed. "So… they knew my room."

Leonardo's eyes narrowed. "That means someone gave them information."

Rachel's heart twisted.

Someone had sold her.

Mikhail grabbed his radio. "All units, lock down the estate. Search every room. No one leaves."

Rachel stepped forward, her voice quiet but shaking with anger. "Where is Raziel?"

The men exchanged glances.

Ethan's jaw clenched.

"He's in the council meeting."

Rachel's blood ran cold.

She grabbed Leonardo's arm. "Get me there. Now."

Leonardo hesitated. "Rachel, Raziel ordered"

"I don't care what he ordered," she snapped, eyes burning. "If someone is targeting me in this house, then Raziel is in danger too."

Kai's voice was low. "Or he's the target."

Rachel froze.

The words landed like a slap.

Ethan spoke slowly. "If someone can reach you, they can reach him."

Mikhail looked at Rachel carefully. "You need to understand something, Rachel. This isn't about you being protected anymore."

Rachel's throat tightened. "Then what is it about?"

Mikhail's gaze was hard. "This is a coup."

Rachel felt her legs weaken.

A coup.

Against Raziel.

Against the man everyone feared.

Against the man who had built an empire out of blood.

Someone wanted him removed.

And she was the key.

Rachel's voice dropped. "Selene."

Leonardo nodded. "Yes. But not only her."

Rachel stared at them. "There's more?"

Kai's eyes sharpened. "The council isn't united. Selene has supporters. And some of Raziel's own allies… want him gone."

Rachel's chest tightened.

So Raziel wasn't just fighting Selene.

He was fighting his own people.

She turned toward the door. "Take me to the council."

Ethan grabbed her wrist. "Rachel"

She yanked free. "I'm not hiding anymore."

Her voice shook, but her eyes didn't.

"I'm tired of being a pawn," she said. "If this is war, then I'm going to look my enemies in the face."

Mikhail studied her.

Then nodded once.

"Fine. But stay close."

Rachel didn't answer.

She was already walking.

The Council Room

The council chamber was built like a throne room.

Dark marble floors. Walls lined with weapons and paintings of dead kings. A long table in the center with seats carved like coffins.

And at the head…

Raziel.

He sat like he owned the world.

Black suit. Open collar. A gun resting casually on the table beside his hand.

His eyes were cold, unreadable.

But when Rachel walked in…

His gaze snapped to her instantly.

And something in him shifted.

"What the hell are you doing here?" he demanded.

The entire council turned to look at her.

Men in suits. Men with scars. Men who smelled like money and violence.

Rachel felt their eyes on her like knives.

She walked forward anyway.

"I was shot at," she said simply.

The room exploded into murmurs.

Raziel stood so fast his chair scraped the floor.

His eyes burned.

"Who?"

Rachel lifted her chin. "That's what I came to find out."

Raziel's gaze flicked to his men.

Mikhail nodded once. "Sniper. Inside the building across. Someone knew her location."

The council went silent.

Raziel turned slowly, scanning the faces around him.

His voice dropped into something lethal.

"Which one of you," he said quietly, "decided tonight was the night you betray me?"

No one answered.

A man near the middle leaned back, smirking.

His name was Giovanni Falcone.

An old ally of Rachel's father.

Powerful. Rich. Dangerous.

He spoke calmly. "You accuse your own council without evidence."

Raziel's eyes narrowed. "You want evidence? My woman was nearly killed."

The words echoed.

My woman.

Rachel's breath caught.

Every man in the room reacted.

Some looked amused.

Some looked furious.

Some looked afraid.

Giovanni smiled slightly. "Your woman?" he repeated. "Interesting. You're losing control, Raziel."

Raziel stepped forward. "Say that again."

Giovanni didn't flinch. "You're letting feelings interfere with business."

Rachel stared at Giovanni, her instincts screaming.

He wasn't afraid of Raziel.

That meant he had backup.

Or he had already decided Raziel was dead.

Rachel's heart pounded.

Raziel leaned forward over the table. "I built this empire with my hands," he said. "I spilled blood for it. And anyone who touches what's mine"

Giovanni cut in. "Is exactly why you're unfit to lead."

Silence.

Rachel's breath stopped.

Raziel's expression darkened so violently it looked like the devil had entered his skin.

The council shifted uncomfortably.

Giovanni stood.

"You're a king who has become obsessed with a girl," he said. "A girl who doesn't even belong here. She is weakness."

Rachel felt something inside her snap.

Before Raziel could move, she stepped forward.

"Say it again," she said softly.

Giovanni turned to her, amused. "I said you're weakness."

Rachel smiled.

It was not sweet.

It was not innocent.

It was cold.

"No," she whispered. "I'm the reason you're all afraid."

Giovanni's brows lifted. "Excuse me?"

Rachel stepped closer.

"You know why Selene wants me," she said. "You know why the underworld is whispering my name. Because I'm Moretti blood."

She placed her hands on the table.

"And if any of you think you can remove Raziel and take the empire…"

She leaned closer, her voice dropping into poison.

"I will burn every single one of you alive."

The council went dead silent.

Raziel stared at her.

Not with anger.

With something darker.

Pride.

Giovanni laughed.

"A threat from a girl who can't even hold a gun properly."

Rachel's eyes didn't blink.

"I don't need a gun," she said. "I have something worse."

Giovanni's smile faded slightly. "And what is that?"

Rachel turned her head toward Raziel.

"I have him."

Raziel's gaze sharpened.

And for the first time…

The council realized the truth.

Rachel wasn't a hostage.

She wasn't a liability.

She was a weapon.

The Betrayal Revealed

Leonardo suddenly stepped forward, holding a tablet.

His voice was cold. "I traced the communication that sent Rachel's room number to the sniper."

The council tensed.

Raziel's eyes turned to Leonardo.

"And?"

Leonardo lifted the screen.

"It came from inside this room."

Everyone froze.

Giovanni's smile vanished.

Raziel's voice was deadly calm.

"Whose device?"

Leonardo's eyes flicked across the table.

Then stopped.

He pointed.

"Giovanni Falcone."

The room erupted.

Giovanni stood instantly. "That's a lie!"

Raziel moved faster than a bullet.

He grabbed Giovanni by the throat and slammed him against the wall.

A gun clicked.

Raziel pressed it against Giovanni's head.

"Tell me the truth," Raziel whispered, "before I paint this wall with your brain."

Giovanni gasped, struggling.

"You can't kill me," he choked. "Not here. Not in front of them."

Raziel's smile was pure darkness.

"Yes," he said softly. "I can."

Rachel watched, heart pounding.

She should've been afraid.

But she wasn't.

She felt something else.

Power.

Raziel turned his head slightly toward the council.

"Anyone who sides with Selene dies tonight," he said.

The room went silent.

Giovanni's eyes widened. "Selene didn't send me

Raziel pulled the trigger.

The gunshot cracked through the chamber.

Blood splattered the marble wall.

Giovanni Falcone collapsed like a puppet with its strings cut.

Rachel flinched.

But she didn't scream.

She stared at the body.

Then she looked at Raziel.

And she understood.

This was his world.

This was what it cost to survive.

Raziel wiped his hand calmly, then turned to the council.

"Meeting is over," he said.

No one argued.

They stood and filed out like obedient dogs.

Rachel remained frozen.

Raziel approached her slowly.

His eyes were unreadable.

"Are you afraid of me now?" he asked.

Rachel swallowed.

Her voice was quiet.

"No."

Raziel's expression hardened.

"That's the problem," he said. "You should be."

Rachel stepped closer. "I'm not afraid because I understand."

Raziel's hand rose to her cheek, smearing a streak of blood on her skin.

"Do you know what you've done tonight?" he asked.

Rachel's breath hitched.

She shook her head slowly.

Raziel leaned closer.

"You declared yourself mine," he whispered.

Her pulse raced.

"And I declared you my weakness."

Rachel's lips parted.

"You said it first," she whispered.

Raziel's voice dropped into something dark.

"I don't take what I want gently."

Rachel's knees weakened.

"Then don't," she whispered back.

Raziel's eyes flashed.

He grabbed her waist and pulled her against him.

Hard.

His mouth crashed onto hers.

The kiss wasn't romance.

It was hunger.

Ownership.

A promise of destruction.

Rachel melted into him, fingers clutching his suit, trembling as heat spread through her veins.

Raziel kissed her like the world was ending.

And maybe it was.

Because outside the mansion…

the war had already begun.

Cliffhanger

The door burst open suddenly.

Ethan rushed in, breathless, face pale.

"Boss," he said urgently.

Raziel didn't turn.

"What?" he snapped.

Ethan's voice shook.

"They found a message… carved into the body of Giovanni's driver."

Rachel's blood ran cold.

Raziel's eyes narrowed. "What message?"

Ethan swallowed hard.

He looked at Rachel.

Then at Raziel.

And said the words that shattered the room.

"It says… Selene has your mother."

Rachel's heart stopped.

The world tilted.

Her mouth opened, but no sound came out.

Her mother?

Alive?

Kidnapped?

Raziel's face went completely still.

Not anger.

Not shock.

Something far worse.

A murderous calm.

He turned slowly toward Rachel.

And in his eyes…

was hell.

"We're going to end her," he said quietly.

Rachel's knees nearly gave out.

And the last thing she saw before the darkness of panic swallowed her…

was Raziel Benedict smiling.

Not a lover's smile.

A killer's smile.
