Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

Happiness...

Such an odd human being. Naturally, humans have what I term balance. You know when they say everyone is born good and bad? They didn't lie. Humans were born with balance. They just choose what they feed the most. And while we have evil humans, you can tell that while their eyes are cold, they are still human.

This was an odd human. Odd would suit him best because he seems to have no other emotion but happiness. Which either makes him not human or my next available target. I replicate his facial features and give back a genuine smile. My happiness just so happens to be due to his, I just found myself something to entertain my boring life in this mediocre town again.

First the werewolves and now a happy human.

I file his existence to memory and take in the beauty of the place. It's amazing in that simple but luxurious way and it has me nodding in appreciation. I hope the food is as good as the place looks. Otherwise, the cook and owner will be just as unhappy as I will after am done with the place.

I spot a seat almost immediately and walk over. Am assuming this place is a walk in kind of establishment since nobody has stopped me at the door to ask for a reservation name. A menu seats on the wooden table, and I grab it to see what they have.

A human waitress steps in my line of sight, and she has my attention immediately. She smells of resentment and malice but wears her service smile like my tip still goes a long way. I smile sincerely while giving her my order and watch her leave. While I may be physically starving my spirit is full, which means today is her lucky day. I still inhale a bit of her taste and try to look around again.

A gasp of evident fake surprise has me rolling my eyes to my left were a blond-haired woman with vibrant red lipstick stares at me. I immediately remember her as the client from yesterday morning. The wolf with pride problems.

But then I think all werewolves have pride, no?

I slowly sigh and lick my dry lips. Right now, am hungry. In as much as I want to engage in whatever this is, am more focused on the lack of food in my stomach. I give her a polite smile that conveys just how much am not interested in small talk at the moment. She gives me a brilliant smile that actually reaches her eyes. I note that her body language suggests moving to focus on me and I quickly grab the menu again to look through for a wine to go with the food.

I actively try to ignore her for a good while by pretending to go through my phone and every other action I could think of before the waitress comes back with my food.

That was fast...

I inhale my food in the shortest possible time and actually enjoy it. The potions are actually reasonable, and It's got a rich flavor and hardly any additional seasonings. Which is a plus because food no longer tastes the same anymore. The salt isn't salty, nor is the sugar sweet. The pasta has an after taste and the rice doesn't rise anymore. It's a fucked-up world that just keeps getting shitty day by day.

My house mother used to tell me that even the moon was brighter back then and I can agree to that. I once visited a village in southern Africa, and the moon was always brightest. The modern world is not a flex, it's a prison. And humans are the stupidest of creatures.

A heavy presence roams over the area, and I turn to see a man in a black t-shirt and jeans that fit him really well. I cannot see his face as he's turned toward the woman with red lipstick. I don't know why he has my attention but my senses zero in on his entire being.

He shares the same blond hair as the woman and pale skin. Strong arms and over all good posture and appearance. I stare for a moment longer and I think he feels it because his gaze suddenly snaps to mine and I inhale.

His eyes are a burnt orange, I have never seen anyone with such an eye color before. His facial features are rugged and intense. He has the kind of face women go weak in the head for. The kind of guy who makes other men jealous simply for existing. And probably turn gay while at it. Basically, if you were a straight dude and met this guy with your girlfriend you would understand and look the other way.

You didn't stand a chance from the get-go.

In short, dude is fucking hot and I will probably screw him too if he is gay.

"This town keeps getting more interesting! OH my God Enron will be so jealous!"

I offer a nod of acknowledgment as he does too and chuckle to myself quietly when the waitress interrupts our starring competition. I order a bottle of wine to wash down the lovely food and hope they don't find it odd that am drinking in the afternoon already.

I happen to have very little care for human morals and manners at that though.

The lady with the red lipstick laughs and am drawn to the sound, it's like how rich people laugh at galas or charity events. Pretentious and soft. She gets up and I realize with a certain slight embarrassment that I have completely forgotten this woman's name. She is my client whom I spent an hour with, and I cannot for the life of me recall her freaking name.

And she is heading my way.

fuck me.

"Doctor Ekron, it's so nice to see you outside the office for a change." She says with a smile and I mirror her actions. I stand and take her offered hand in greeting. I don't ever recall meeting this woman outside the office. If anything, I just met her yesterday.

"It's a small town I imagine everyone knows everyone at this point madam"

"Oh, none of that call me Charlene please, may I?" She thankfully saves me the energy to look for her name and takes the other seat opposite.

"...please" I offer while nodding in agreement.
