Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: Data of Friends

After a brief moment of silence for Harry (RIP), Basil walked to the window. While admiring his Hogwarts, he sank his consciousness into his mind to deal with the task he forgot last night—checking his friends' data.

Especially Hermione's and the others'.

He clicked on Ron's first.

 [Name: Ron Weasley]

 Race: Wizard

 Health: 9

 Magic: 5

 Luck: 3 ~ 6

 Family Traits:

 Red Hair & Freckles (Awakened)

 Fertility (Weak) (Awakened)

 Charms Proficiency

Basil felt an intense urge to roast this.

A wizard's Magic stat usually ranged from 3 to 7.

Most first-years hovered between 3 and 5, while older students were in the 4-7 range.

"This Magic value is already higher than some weak upperclassmen!"

"Ridiculous. The Weasleys really can breed, can't they?!"

He tapped on the avatars of the Weasley twins. "? Why do they also have an Alchemy Proficiency trait?"

"Are there hidden traits that don't show up?"

"Also, their Fertility trait doesn't have the 'Weak' tag."

Next was Harry.

 [Name: Harry Potter]

 Race: Wizard

 Health: 7

 Magic: 10

 Luck: 4 ~ 9

 Family Traits:

 Messy Hair (Awakened)

 Parseltongue (Awakened)

 Spell Proficiency

 Potions Proficiency (Weak)

"Even without the [Magic Book] bonus, I only have 7. Harry actually has 10!"

"But wait, in the second movie, how did Draco Malfoy's spell affect Harry if his Magic Resistance is 10?"

"Was it the malice during casting?"

"Or Spell Proficiency?"

"According to the books, spells are divided into 7 categories: Transfiguration, Charms, Jinxes, Hexes, Curses, Counter-spells, and Healing Spells."

"Based on the wizard data I've summarized, the System categorizes spells into two main types: Rational Spells (Transfiguration) and Emotional Spells (Charms, Dark Arts, White Magic)."

"Harry's Spell Proficiency... the Dark Arts part probably comes from Voldemort. James Potter was skilled at Transfiguration. Charms Proficiency is common in wizarding families. And the White Magic part is likely due to the Sacrificial Protection Lily left on him?"

"So they all combined into a general Spell Proficiency?"

"No wonder Harry could slack off with Ron all day in the movies and still not fail his classes."

"But... the Potter family, whose ancestors created multiple potion recipes (like Skele-Gro and Pepperup Potion), only passed down a 'Weak' Potions Proficiency?"

"No wonder none of their descendants pursued a career in potions."

"What about Neville? He counts as the second potential Savior in the prophecy."

He clicked on Neville's avatar.

 [Name: Neville Longbottom]

 Race: Wizard

 Health: 10

 Magic: 7

 Luck: 4 ~ 7

 Family Traits:

 Round Face (Awakened)

 Swordsmanship Proficiency

 Charms Proficiency

"Magical Boy Round-Face, huh?"

"His Magic is so high, yet his performance is so poor?"

"Just like the books said, Magic is just the hardware. The software—willpower, pronunciation, wand movement—is indispensable."

"As expected of the Gryffindor Sword Saint. His ancestors were probably knights."

"Let's look at Hagrid."

 [Name: Rubeus Hagrid]

 Race: Half-Giant Wizard

 Health: 20

 Magic: 7

 Luck: 3 ~ 5

 Family Traits:

 Magical Creature Affinity (Awakened)

 Half-Giant Constitution (Awakened)

 Charms Proficiency (Weak)

 Note: Half-Giant Constitution: Magic Resistance = Magic x 2.

"So tanky. And Magic 7? His magical talent is that good?"

"Hmm, maybe it's because of his age. A wizard's magic grows with age. My previous data range of 3-7 was based on students."

"Let's check Hermione's. Her [Magic Scholar] Echo is broken."

 [Name: Hermione Granger]

 Race: First-Generation Wizard

 Health: 7

 Magic: 4

 Luck: 4 ~ 7

 Trait: Omni-Magic Affinity

Note: First-Generation Wizards are the darlings of Magic. Learning spells is not limited by Magic value. Difficulty of entry depends on logic, intelligence, and willpower.

"First-Generation Wizard? Literally the first generation."

"Unlike most fanfiction settings, wizards aren't born from crossbreeding with magical creatures?"

"Did Hermione descend from unpolished gems like this?"

"Crazy. I thought 'First-Gen' sounded badass!"

"Makes sense. Hermione is amazing because she's a 'Know-It-All'."

"Magic value limitation? Does that mean spells with high costs on Spell Cards normally can't even be learned if your Magic is too low?"

"Hermione is the exact opposite of Neville. One lacks hardware (Magic), the other lacks software (Confidence/Skill). But Hermione's First-Gen trait [Omni-Magic Affinity] compensates for her hardware issue. She can learn high-requirement spells even with low Magic, just with weaker effects compared to a qualified wizard."

"However, based on the spells I've learned, none of the cards in the [Magic Book] cost more than 4 Magic. Hermione has enough."

"The panels of these high-priority characters are definitely more interesting than the NPCs I scanned at the station."

"When can I become friends with Dumbledore? I really want to see his stats."

Basil sighed internally.

But a voice from behind interrupted him.

"Basil?"

Basil's work time was over.

He had planned to spend 5000 Gems to unlock and check the Echoes for Harry, Ron, Neville, Hagrid, and Draco Malfoy.

Basil stretched and turned around.

Ron rubbed his eyes as he got out of bed. "Is Harry up? Or did he not come back all night?"

Simultaneously, his other hand familiarly stroked Scabbers' fat belly.

Basil's eyes lit up.

Scabbers! Peter Pettigrew!

He only had a little over 10,000 Gems right now.

Crafting the Echoes for Harry and the others would cost almost half of that.

If Peter Pettigrew's identity was exposed...

Sirius Black gets released early?

That has to be worth a few thousand Gems at least!

Maybe even tens of thousands!

After all, Voldemort's later resurrection depended on Pettigrew finding him!

"Don't look at my rat!" Ron shoved Scabbers into his pocket. "I fed Fanta for you last night, along with Hedwig!"

"Hey!" Basil was anxious.

Fanta was his brother, his family!

"Animals bonded with wizards have near-human intelligence, even if they can't speak. Because of their own magical fields, they treat other wizard pets like kin."

"Even natural enemies like cats and rats get along."

Ron glanced warily at Fanta, who was fake-sleeping in his open cage. "But your owl isn't like that."

"I just found out owls eat rats. I thought they only ate nuts!"

"Yesterday, when I pulled out that dried mouse you mentioned, Fanta and Hedwig's eyes turned green."

"Scabbers was terrified."

"That's because—" Basil didn't know how to explain.

Could he say, "My owl Fanta has Thunderbird blood, and wizard pets with magical creature blood are smarter? He can tell Scabbers is a human! Since Scabbers is human, he has no contract with you, which is why he gets fat when you overfeed him!"?

He could only glare at Ron and make something up. "Harry's and mine are Snowy Owls. Besides living longer—20 to 35 years compared to 3-5 years for small owls—they have a specific diet. They mainly eat rats, and they only eat furry rats."
