Chapter 41 - Chapter 41: léon: the professional

In the early morning, Hunter stretched and sat up from the messy sofa.

He glanced at the somewhat cluttered room; he hadn't expected that after the kind Neighbor Lady came over to help tidy up yesterday...

...the house would actually look even messier.

Reaching out, he took a box of cigarettes and a lighter from his private space.

After lighting one for himself, Hunter looked at the floor nearby, where several small 'umbrellas' were scattered.

He felt that ever since he got involved with Mia, he had started keeping a few boxes of family planning supplies on him, and it really was the right move.

Hunter also hadn't expected the neighbor at his new residence to be so enthusiastic.

So enthusiastic, in fact, that even he found it a bit unbelievable.

They had just met and she came over to help move, and while moving, they moved right onto the sofa.

Then it was like lightning hitting the ground; under that Neighbor Lady's passion, things got out of hand.

As a result, the two of them were busy for a full two hours.

Only then did they manage to turn the house, which was almost tidy, back into a complete mess.

On the newly bought bed, because of that lady's passion...

...the blankets and quilts that had just been laid out had to be sent to the dry cleaners before they could be used again.

Even the mattress needed to be aired out.

Hunter felt it was necessary to plan ahead.

Buy a waterproof pad, or prepare more towels or bath towels with better absorbency.

Since it was currently late May, it was the most comfortable time of the year in Los Angeles.

Last night, Hunter didn't turn on the air conditioner, only opening the window crack slightly.

Thanks to this, there wasn't much of a strange smell in the room when he woke up.

The cigarette was soon finished. Hunter, who didn't have much of a smoking habit, stubbed out the butt and threw it into the trash can, then got up to clean up the battlefield left from last night.

After finishing, he went to take a shower.

Then he made himself a simple breakfast in the kitchen.

After eating, Hunter took out the laptop he had purchased earlier from his private space.

Along the way, he spent a little time setting up the internet connection he hadn't finished yesterday.

He then spent his time surfing the web while teaching himself computer programming and related technologies.

It wasn't until after lunch that Hunter left his residence.

He sent his new address to Mia via email.

When he spoke with Mia yesterday, Hunter sensed that she might currently be grounded by her older brother.

So he decided not to call her for the time being!

Hunter planned to wait a few days and then pretend to inadvertently...

...discover Brian, who had already gone undercover to work at that spare parts store.

The FBI Agent who had approached him a few days ago to ask about Dominic and the others.

Then, he would give Mia a call and tell Dominic about Brian's identity as an FBI Agent.

This way, not only could he completely sever the possibility between Brian and Mia...

...but Hunter could also take the opportunity to do Dominic another favor.

He believed that afterwards, Dominic shouldn't have any more objections to his'savior' dating his sister.

As for Vince and the others, Hunter hadn't even cared about Vince before.

Now, he cared even less about a few small-time lackeys.

He spent a few hours at the boxing gym in the afternoon, and then Hunter went to a shooting club to practice his marksmanship for a while.

In passing, he also wandered around the largest gun supermarket nearby for a while.

Looking at the wide array of items, from pistols to shotguns, from shotguns to submachine guns, from semi-automatic rifles to sniper rifles...

...all sorts of firearms, some Hunter recognized and some he didn't, were all there.

While he marveled at the gun culture in America, he could only look longingly at those items that easily cost four figures.

In particular, Hunter most coveted the civilian versions of several well-known military weapons.

The price tags of those five truly made him, whose pockets were still a bit light, only able to feast his eyes for now.

It is said that there are thousands of large firearm supermarkets like this, resembling regular supermarkets, across the United States where gun ownership is legal.

Here, one could buy everything from handguns and rifles used by various national militaries to even sniper rifles.

However, the firearm supermarkets only sold neutered civilian versions.

At most, one could buy semi-automatic models; the sale of fully automatic weapons was prohibited.

Finally, Hunter registered with his real name and purchased several boxes of 9mm handgun ammunition.

Only then did he leave the gun supermarket, looking back every few steps, reluctant to depart.

In the afternoon, he still hadn't received a call from Charlie.

However, Hunter wasn't in a hurry.

It wouldn't be easy for this master thief to steal the gold from Steve.

Before, their team had spent over three months preparing to steal that full ton of gold bars from an Italian Mafia secret base in Venice.

Hunter could afford to wait.

In Chinatown, he bought some more ingredients.

In a deserted corner, Hunter put the items into his private space.

Over the past few days, he had discovered that the private space could not only store a large number of items.

Moreover, after putting things inside, they wouldn't change at all.

Yesterday, Hunter had bought some cold beer and ice cream, and in the evening, after the refrigerator was installed...

...when he took them out of his private space to put them in.

He realized that the ice cream and cold beer hadn't changed a bit.

They were exactly the same as when they were put in as when they were taken out.

Because of this, Hunter even felt a bit of regret.

If he had discovered this earlier, he wouldn't have spent those few hundred us dollars on a new refrigerator.

Fortunately, consumer electronics prices in the US are very low, and the new discovery kept Hunter in a good mood, so he didn't dwell on it for long.

He soon returned to his residence; since the rented apartment had no elevator.

Hunter climbed the stairs all the way to the sixth floor.

As he walked, he suddenly had a brainwave.

"I wonder if rock climbing and extreme sports can trigger new skills?"

Once this thought popped up, Hunter's heart grew fervent.

He planned that if Charlie and Old Parker didn't contact him over the next few days...

...then Hunter would go and do some proper research.

To see if he could trigger more skills as soon as possible.

Soon, he reached the fourth-floor landing.

With his keen sense of smell, Hunter caught the scent of cigarette smoke.

He glanced up and could vaguely see something swinging.

Climbing up another floor, Hunter finally saw clearly.

It was a white teenage girl with a bob cut, looking only about twelve or thirteen.

She was sitting at the entrance to the sixth-floor stairs, skillfully smoking a cigarette while looking around listlessly.

When Hunter looked at the girl, she looked back at him.

The moment their eyes met, Hunter's mouth twitched.

Yesterday, he had felt that the passionate neighbor lady who had come to his door seemed vaguely familiar.

He felt like he had seen that blonde lady, who was in the prime of her life, somewhere before.

But at the time, Hunter hadn't thought much of it.

He just assumed his predecessor had crossed paths with her somewhere.

Who would have thought that now, seeing the rebellious girl smoking on the stairs...

...a distant memory would awaken!

"Matilda, is it léon: the professional?"

It really is quite a mess!
