Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Mia's Visit

The system cheat allowed Hunter to be unafraid of the future fast & furious plot going out of control.

And weapons could protect him before he rose to power.

Perhaps because he had a weapon for self-defense that was not only concealed but could be taken out at any time,

Hunter felt a massive sense of security, and his mood gradually calmed down.

"Gurgle!"

Just as he was fantasizing about a beautiful life in the future, a gurgling sound suddenly came from his stomach.

Hunter immediately felt a sense of hunger, and he stood up at once, preparing to find something to fill his stomach.

The apartment his predecessor rented was not large; although he had only caught a fleeting glimpse when he came in, he had already memorized the situation inside the apartment.

Next to the apartment entrance, there was a small space partitioned off by cabinets.

That was the kitchen, where a refrigerator with a rusted shell was placed.

Hunter walked quickly to the refrigerator, and when he opened it, his face was suddenly filled with indescribable disappointment.

There was quite a bit of food in the refrigerator: four plates of 500-gram steaks and three onions.

A can of tomatoes and a can of chickpeas.

An opened but unfinished box of cheese slices, and an unopened one-kilogram pack of toast bread.

It was very obvious that although his predecessor was asian,

because his ancestors had immigrated to the United States very early and lived in this country for several generations,

his predecessor's eating habits had basically been completely Westernized.

However, Hunter was clearly not used to eating Western food.

In his previous life, he lived and worked alone, so he had always cooked for himself.

After more than a decade, although Hunter's Culinary Skill wasn't particularly great,

it was enough to satisfy his own appetite.

His body was still not very comfortable, so he didn't plan to go out to buy more groceries.

After staring at the ingredients in the refrigerator for a moment, Hunter had a plan in mind.

So he quickly took out two plates of steak meat, an onion, and the can of tomatoes as well.

After washing and prepping them, Hunter picked up the knife and just as he began to julienne the onion,

at that very instant, a pleasant, cold mechanical voice sounded in his mind once again.

"Ding, detected that the host has started cooking, automatically generating Culinary Skill."

"Current Culinary Skill level is LV0; 100 experience points are required to reach the next level."

"Culinary experience points will be comprehensively evaluated based on cooking duration + food preparation techniques + deliciousness."

"The more complex and delicious the food, the more experience points can be obtained!"

Hunter's movements froze, and then he was wild with joy.

Although he had guessed before that the Proficiency System would likely turn all the knowledge and techniques he learned and mastered into skills,

triggering three skills in a row now had pretty much proven his guess.

At the thought that in the future, he could truly turn all the knowledge and techniques he learned and mastered into skills,

Hunter could hardly hide his excitement and thrill.

"Riding a bike, Lockpicking, and cooking can all generate skills."

"Maybe it really is as I thought, and everything I learn in the future can form a skill."

"If that's the case, doesn't it mean..."

"In the future, I can master more skills through continuous learning to obtain more attribute points, thereby becoming a superhuman-like existence."

"Even omnipotent!"

Just thinking about it made Hunter feel his blood boiling!

He was excited!

But soon, the gurgling sound from his stomach again forced Hunter's wandering imagination to return!

He got busy again, first julienning the onion and then washing and cubing the steak.

After finding a piece of butter to heat the pan, Hunter soon poured the onion, beef cubes, and canned tomatoes into the pot one after another.

There were very few seasonings in his predecessor's house, only salt and black pepper powder.

Hunter had no choice and could only use salt and black pepper for seasoning in the end.

After simmering over high heat for forty to fifty minutes, a pot of not-quite-authentic modified Tomato Beef was ready.

Fortunately, although there were few ingredients and seasonings, the result was not bad.

Smelling the aroma constantly wafting from the pot, Hunter felt his stomach growl along with it.

With his cravings stirred up, he couldn't help but want to turn off the heat and enjoy a simple meal.

However, right at that moment, a knock suddenly came from outside the door.

The room wasn't large, so the moment the knocking sounded, Hunter heard it clearly and confirmed that it was his front door being knocked on.

He was stunned at first, but at the same time, he became vigilant.

His predecessor's residence was located in an old urban area of Los Angeles; although it wasn't exactly a slum,

according to his predecessor's memories, the neighborhood wasn't considered safe either.

Immediately raising his guard, Hunter walked quickly to the door.

He didn't rush to open the door but instead asked, "Who is it?"

At the same time, he was prepared in his heart; once he confirmed the visitor was ill-intentioned, he would immediately take out a weapon from his private space for self-defense.

The visitor outside the door had no intention of hiding their identity.

Soon, a familiar young girl's voice rang out.

"Hunter, it's Mia?"

"I heard you were injured, so I came to see you."
