Chapter 44 - The Captains’ Joint Seal!

"A self-created Kidō…"

"Something that only exists in legends—someone actually did it?!"

"Bai Chen… this is completely insane!!!"

Aizen was surprised—

But he barely managed to keep his composure, not allowing himself to visibly lose control.

The academy's senior staff and instructors below, however, nearly descended into chaos.

Several of them jolted so hard they almost fell out of their seats.

Because they knew very well—

Kidō's origins traced all the way back to the era when the Five Great Noble Houses still coexisted.

It was the crystallization of countless generations of Shinigami wisdom, accumulated and refined over centuries.

Especially after Kidō had been formalized and assigned numerical sequences—

It had become a fixed, systematic discipline, its structure long considered immutable.

That was precisely why—

The moment Bai Chen revealed he was about to unleash a self-created Kidō—

The academy's leadership reacted so violently.

In their ingrained understanding of history,

Across hundreds of years in Soul Society…

Only two individuals were ever clearly recorded as having achieved this:

Former leaders of the Kidō Corps—

Tessai Tsukabishi,

and Hachigen Ushōda.

Both had possessed the ability to create their own Kidō—

And had even gone so far as to develop forbidden techniques.

Which made one thing abundantly clear:

Creating Kidō was absurdly difficult.

At minimum, one had to reach the level of a Kidō Commander.

Yet Bai Chen—

Was only a first-year student.

Less than a month of cultivation…

And he already stood shoulder to shoulder with a Kidō Commander?

It was beyond absurd.

Of course—

Most people were merely shocked and disbelieving.

The one who was truly panicking…

Was the unfortunate Hisagi Shūhei.

"Damn it…"

"What the hell is going on?!"

"Is Bai Chen really trying to wipe us out?! I was just about to surrender!!!"

Hearing Bai Chen's shout—

And feeling the terrifying reiatsu storm surging around him—

Hisagi's mentality completely collapsed.

He had finally swallowed his pride, prepared to surrender in front of everyone—

Only to realize…

He hadn't even gotten the chance to say the words.

Bai Chen had already unleashed his ultimate move.

And judging by the reiatsu buildup—

Interrupting the technique was basically impossible.

From the moment the reiatsu erupted—

The Shuriken Shadow Clone Technique was destined not to stop halfway.

"…Sigh."

"I really am cursed with terrible luck."

Letting out a lifeless sigh, Hisagi turned his head—

Clinging to the faintest shred of hope—

And looked toward the instructor stands.

"Still…"

"The academy instructors and the captains…"

"They wouldn't just let us die here, right?"

As the pressure continued to rise—

Hisagi began struggling to breathe.

Even his limbs started to feel stiff and sluggish.

After a brief internal struggle—

He decided to completely give up resisting.

Fight back?

Don't joke with him.

Just the casting pressure alone was already suffocating him.

Even with half a brain—

It was obvious this technique was a world-ending-level attack.

Resisting would be suicide.

Better to lie flat and wait for the captains to step in.

Meanwhile—

Under countless horrified gazes—

Bai Chen stood at the center of a roaring reiatsu storm, his entire body bathed in blinding emerald light.

With a mere thought—

That vast, tangible reiatsu surged upward like green crystal glass—

Rapidly condensing in midair.

"What… is that?!"

As everyone raised their heads—

Their eyes locked onto the sky.

Within the swirling reiatsu gale—

A massive spiritual shuriken took form.

BOOM!!!

The shuriken spun at terrifying speed—

Further amplifying the raging reiatsu currents.

Because the energy density was too great—

And the rotation too fast—

Crackling arcs of lightning continuously burst from its surface.

The air detonated.

Even space itself began to visibly warp.

And this—

Was merely the prelude.

It made the destructive power of the Shuriken Shadow Clone Technique horrifyingly clear.

"This is way too dangerous…"

"If it detonates freely, not just the arena…"

"Even we captains could pay a heavy price!"

Staring up at the colossal shuriken—

Feeling the annihilating aura radiating from it—

Kyōraku Shunsui could no longer remain seated.

He sprang to his feet—

Not even caring as the violent wind tore his straw hat away.

Turning toward the other three captains, his expression grave, he spoke rapidly:

"Captain Aizen."

"Captain Ichimaru."

"Captain Unohana."

"You can feel it too, can't you?"

"Bai Chen's self-created Kidō…"

"Its power is in no way inferior to legendary Kidō above the nineties!"

Anxiety and deep wariness filled Kyōraku's rugged face.

"If we let it explode freely—"

"This entire arena will be leveled."

"And the lives of the Sixth Years and academy instructors will be in immediate danger!"

"So I propose the four of us act together!"

"Before that shuriken detonates—"

"We'll use Kidō to create a sealed barrier!"

"To compress the blast radius as much as possible!"

From his urgent tone—

It was clear Kyōraku was genuinely panicking.

He had never imagined—

That an assessment match meant for students…

Would escalate to this level.

If it were just damage to the arena, that would be one thing.

But if lives were lost—

He wouldn't be able to answer to the Head Captain.

"Yare yare…"

"To restrict the blast area…"

"That means we'll have to jointly cast Dankū."

Ichimaru Gin said, eyes narrowed.

"There's no time—act immediately," Unohana Retsu said calmly.

The moment her words fell—

The four captains vanished from their spots.

When they reappeared—

They stood at the east, west, south, and north edges of the battlefield.

Then—

The Bakudō incantation rang out simultaneously:

"O proud son of heaven, iron-walled city…"

"Dragon stride, lion roar, tiger howl, wolf rush…"

"Cut through heaven and earth before all things collapse!"

"Bakudō no. 81—Dankū!"

With the final syllable—

Amid thunderous noise—

Four enormous light walls erupted from the ground!

They locked together seamlessly—

Instantly forming a fully enclosed circular barrier.

The entire area was sealed off.

"Haa…"

"It was messy, but this should keep things under control."

Looking at the towering barrier before him—

Kyōraku nodded in satisfaction, finally exhaling in relief.

With the reiatsu of four captains reinforcing it—

This hastily formed barrier was virtually impregnable.

Even Kidō above the nineties could be resisted.

At the same time—

Just as the barrier fully stabilized—

The spiritual shuriken, still spinning at extreme speed, began collapsing inward—

Gradually transforming into a massive sphere of condensed energy.

And finally—

Under Aizen's anticipation,

Ichimaru's solemn gaze,

Unohana's deep focus,

And Kyōraku's confident eyes—

The spiritual shuriken…

Detonated.
