Chapter 68 - Chapter 68: Eastern Magic, Flight

"Good morning, Lucien."

Terry subconsciously greeted Lucien.

But seeing Lucien emerge from behind his bed curtains, neatly dressed and wearing shoes, looking so refreshed, Terry was a bit puzzled.

"Lucien, what is this?"

Lucien lowered the curtain and said casually,

"Just opened up a plot of land and built a house."

"Uh, Lucien, it seems you're quite a humorous person."

Lucien wasn't surprised by Terry's reaction.

To be honest, living in the same dormitory, with him having transformed his bed into a "small paradise," Terry was bound to notice something unusual sooner or later.

So Lucien hadn't intended to hide it. Such an operation, while a bit uncommon for first-year Young Wizards.

But it's magic, so anything can happen.

He had already said it; whether Terry believed him was another matter.

"By the way, do you want to go for breakfast together, Lucien? I happen to have some Charms questions I want to ask you."

"Speaking of which, the dining hall has had a lot of new varieties since yesterday. There are quite a few new breakfast items alone."

"They all taste great. I heard they're some kind of Eastern cuisine, called what, Youtiao, Tofu Brain, Wontons..."

Lucien listened to Terry rattle off the menu and nodded almost imperceptibly.

The House-elves were really efficient. He had only taught them Chinese recipes a few days ago, and they were already officially launching them in the dining hall?

"Alright, let's go together."

The two walked to the dining hall.

"Hoo~~"

Lucien gently blew on the hot surface of his Wonton and spooned it into his mouth.

He had to admit, the House-elves' cooking was really good.

The flavor was well-replicated, with thin wrappers and generous fillings.

"Lucien? What a coincidence."

Lucien looked at the black-haired girl who sat down opposite him and nodded.

"Good morning, Cho."

Cho also had a bowl of Wontons and a steaming cup of soy milk in front of her.

"I never thought I'd be able to taste the flavors of my hometown here at Hogwarts."

"Cho, you must be from the East, right? How do you feel, do these dishes taste authentic?"

Hearing Lucien's question, Cho swallowed a small Wonton and pursed her lips.

"Yes, I moved here with my parents from China when I was little."

"To be honest, these dishes are very authentic and delicious. I don't know how those House-elves thought of making Chinese food."

Heh heh, perhaps some Eastern soul, tormented by Britain's "cuisine," instilled wonderful cooking knowledge into the House-elves.

He wondered if Cho knew about Eastern magic. He felt it must be very interesting, probably a unique system of knowledge.

"Cho, what do you know about the magic of your homeland?"

"Hmm, I was still young then, I only heard about it from my parents, since they are both Wizards."

"Chinese magic is very unique. People there don't use wands; they use things called talismans, elixirs, flying swords, whisk brooms..."

Listening to Cho's narration, Lucien's eyes couldn't help but light up.

Waving a wand to cast magic was certainly interesting.

But those were flying swords and talismans! Who wouldn't want to cultivate immortality?

Hmm, are those magical artifacts similar to Alchemy here, where magical effects are inscribed onto tools to activate them more conveniently and quickly?

If he could learn Chinese magic knowledge, that would be wonderful! It must be very exciting!

"Oh, I heard that in my hometown, they don't use flying brooms either, but rather, um, what was that called..."

Cho pinched the ends of her hair, a little frustrated, having forgotten it for a moment.

"Sword riding?"

"Hey, yes, exactly! That's what it's called. How did you know, Lucien?"

He knew from reading novels and watching TV shows. Who hadn't watched 'Chinese Paladin' when they were young?

Lucien stirred his Wonton soup to help it cool down faster.

"I've read some books that mentioned this magical way of flying."

"I see. You really are a Ravenclaw student; you read so many books. Speaking of which, you've already had Flying Class, haven't you? How was it?"

Cho's question brought Lucien back to reality.

Controlling a broom to fly was no problem for him; he picked it up very easily.

"Not bad. The feeling of free flight is great."

"Perhaps the school's brooms are a bit old; their speed and agility feel pretty average."

Hearing Lucien's complaint, Cho chuckled softly.

"It seems you're very good at flying, discovering the limitations of those brooms on your first try."

"It's a pity that first-year Young Wizards aren't allowed to bring flying brooms to school."

Ha, it's probably to prevent students from flying around recklessly. It's hard to say about other houses.

But Ravenclaw's dormitory is at the top of a tower, the kind where you can take off and land directly on a broom.

Last time, while observing the stars from the rooftop, he personally saw an Eagle House senior, with a senior girl, mount a broom and fly off.

And no matter how high-end a flying broom is, flying with it is probably just that.

It's nothing like the exhilaration of riding a Unicorn through a sea of clouds.

"Lucien, since you've learned to ride a broom, do you want to try Quidditch sometime? It's really interesting!"

Lucien finished his last Wonton and asked a very strange question.

"Quidditch, do you have to play it on a flying broom?"

"What?"

Seeing the girl's puzzled expression, Lucien waved his hand.

"Nothing, just pretend I was kidding."

Lucien's first thought was indeed to play the game while riding his Unicorn, but then he reconsidered. Not only would that be too flashy.

More importantly, it would be too overpowered. Not to mention the Unicorn's speed and agility in cloud-stepping flight, if he also used its innate Apparition.

They might as well just hand him the trophy.

Wizards' flight is basically dependent on brooms, and in other regions, they might use things like magic carpets, but these all have significant limitations.

However, there was one Wizard who developed a unique flying magic.

That was Lord Voldemort.

He could transform himself into a wisp of black smoke or a light breeze, flying through the air without relying on external objects.

Never mind his strategies, Tom's talent in magic was truly high.

If he hadn't bothered with ruling the world or ruling Britain, and just focused on researching magic, he might have achieved the immortality he sought.

But he insisted on stirring up trouble, and not only did he fail to find eternal life or escape death, he couldn't even take over one school in the end.

"I'm done eating. You two take your time. I'm going back to read."

Terry swallowed the Tofu Brain in his mouth and waved the Youtiao in his hand.

Cho also subconsciously waved goodbye, surprised that Lucien ate so fast, and muttered softly,

"We barely talked. He really loves studying..."

"Ah, what did you just say, senior?"

Terry looked up at Cho, still munching on the golden, crispy Youtiao.

"Uh, nothing, I said the Wontons are very delicious."

"Oh, then I'll go order a bowl and try it."

"..."

Lucien walked towards the Ravenclaw common room, recalling the knowledge points from 'Identification of Dark Arts.'

Especially those insidious curses, the Dark Arts that could affect the mind and soul.

No choice, he had to go to Tom, no, Professor Quirrell's place today for extra lessons in Defense Against the Dark Arts.
