Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Between Pages

Friendships don't always last forever, but they always change us.

Lily,s Pov :

I found the old notebook while searching for some documents on my bookshelf.

It was hidden behind a stack of files, its cover worn and edges curled with age. When I opened it, the smell of old paper filled the air. Inside, between messy handwriting and careless doodles, were names that once meant everything to me—

Emma Brooks.

Ethan Walker.

Noah Bennett.

We were just high-school kids back then, unaware of how quickly life would pull us apart.

I closed my eyes and whispered to myself,

"Just stop thinking. They're nothing to me now."

But something tightened in my chest, refusing to let go.

Footsteps echoed softly as a maid walked toward me.

"Miss Lily, did something happen?" she asked gently.

I looked down at the notebook in my hands, then turned my gaze toward the window where sunlight spilled quietly into the room.

"No… nothing," I said. "Just some old documents. Not important anymore."

She glanced at the book and hesitated.

"If it's waste, should I clean it and throw it away?"

My grip on the notebook tightened instantly.

"No," I said, sharper than I intended.

She looked surprised. "But miss, it's not of any use now, and it's also old and—"

"No," I cut her off.

Some things staying longer is better.

My voice softened, dropping almost to a whisper.

"Because some things never get old."

She studied my face for a moment, then nodded.

"Alright, miss."

As she left the room, silence returned.

I stared at the notebook again, my thoughts spiraling.

What is happening to me?

Why am I behaving like this?

I told myself I wouldn't think about them anymore—

so why couldn't I forget them?

And why did he still linger in my mind?

My phone buzzed.

A message from Oliver.

Oliver: Lily, can we meet?

I stared at the screen for a second before replying.

Me: Okay. Meet me at the nearby café at 5:00 PM.

His response came quickly.

Oliver: Okay. See you soon.

I locked my phone and walked toward the window. The sky was slowly changing colors, drifting from blue to soft shades of orange.

"Oliver and Ava are the only people I can trust now," I murmured to myself.

"I hope they won't break it… like some people did."

I closed the notebook and placed it back on the shelf.

Some memories stay silent for years—

until one day, they ask to be remembered.
