From a distance, only blinding flames could be seen erupting.

Not just Gwen, but Tony, Bruce, Pietro, Wanda, and G'iah also hadn't seen clearly.

"Let Thor tell you." Lucas said, gesturing for them to look beside him.
An unharmed Thor was sitting in the spectator area, looking at the distant battlefield with a helpless expression.
If mjolnir were still around, he wouldn't have been defeated so easily.
When the first meteorite fell, he took the impact head-on. Under the terrifying force, he and his shield were smashed into a deep pit, his shield on the verge of breaking.
