Chapter 9 - Kamar-Taj's Sorcerer?

"Officer, an abnormal magnetic field fluctuation has been detected in the outskirts of New York, and nearby satellite signals are experiencing severe interference."

The words 'New York' and 'abnormal magnetic field fluctuation' linked together, giving Nick Fury a bad feeling.

"The energy level in the outskirts of New York is skyrocketing."

Nick Fury reacted swiftly. "Connect me to Agent Hill, the on-site Commander in New York, and Stark."

"Also, deploy our helicarrier."

...

"Sir, S.H.I.E.L.D. is requesting a connection, saying a major change has occurred."

"Connect them."

Tony, who was debugging his armor, stopped what he was doing and walked towards the living room.

"Jarvis, wake Stacy and Lucas and tell them to come to the living room."

"Sir, Miss Stacy and Mr. Lucas are already in the living room."

At this moment, Lucas and Gwen stood side by side by the window, looking towards the Temple of Eternal Night.

There, as dark clouds obscured the moon, thunderclaps continuously echoed, illuminating the night sky.

"Such powerful energy fluctuations... such a dangerous aura."

The fine hairs on Gwen's arms stood on end. Every time she considered going to investigate, her Spider-Sense would throb incessantly.

Lucas frowned deeply.

The scenes in the movie weren't this exaggerated, were they?

The enhanced Deacon Frost only had stronger healing abilities. In a direct fight, he was no match for Blade.

How is it that when it comes to me, his strength has multiplied who knows how many times?

From Lucas's perspective, endless energy was continuously pouring into the Temple of Eternal Night through a channel. Despite significant consumption along the way, a vast amount of energy spilled out, as if it were free, enveloping the Temple of Eternal Night.

And a strange, bloody figure was constantly approaching through the channel, seemingly about to cross endless time and space to descend into the present world.

Pulling out his phone, Lucas prepared to call the Ancient One to ask.

This matter was too big. He and Gwen, with their small arms and legs, couldn't handle it.

Before the call could connect, a text message arrived, roughly stating.

[Go ahead and do it with confidence. Everything is under control. If anything goes wrong, I'll back you up.]

"What's going on?"

Tony walked up to the two of them, lost in thought as he looked at the scene before him.

Behind Tony, there was a screen that Jarvis had moved over.

The screen showed Nick Fury and Maria Hill connected.

"The Blood God has descended."

"Just now, at the Vampire gathering place—"

Lucas's and Maria Hill's voices rang out one after another.

Lucas turned and explained to everyone, "Through some special ritual, they communicate with an Extra-Dimensional Being, exchanging power through sacrifice."

"Who is this?"

"Kamar-Taj, Lucas."

When you're out and about, your identity is what you make it.

Working for the Sorcerer Supreme, what's wrong with flying Kamar-Taj's banner?

"S.H.I.E.L.D. Director, Nick Fury."

"S.H.I.E.L.D. Commander, Maria Hill."

"Iron Man, Tony Stark."

"Ghost-Spider, Gwen Stacy."

The group quickly introduced themselves.

"Sorcerer Lucas, what should we do now?" Nick Fury got straight to the point.

He had long heard of Kamar-Taj and knew that the sorcerers there were skilled at dealing with supernatural evil forces, so he wanted to hear a professional's opinion first.

Lucas said, "Go in and wipe out all the Vampires there. As for the Blood God, the Sorcerer Supreme will take care of it."

Nick Fury said, "We don't have enough manpower. The military has a day off today, and it's difficult to mobilize them quickly. We only have a few hundred S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents setting up a defensive line."

"F*ck." Tony cursed angrily.

"Is this what you meant by 'measures have already been taken'?"

At this point, Gwen asked, "What about the New York Police Department?"

"The New York Police Department has tens of thousands of Officers. Why not ask them for help?"

Nick Fury explained, "Deacon Frost has been operating in New York for decades, and his informants are spread throughout all sectors of New York. Drawing on local forces would leak information."

He didn't mention a more important point: S.H.I.E.L.D.'s responsibilities.

One of them is to protect civilians from supernatural events or advanced technological threats, and at the same time, filter out information that civilians should not know.

Having the New York Police Department participate in a Vampire eradication mission could easily expose the existence of Vampires to the public, causing panic.

"Let's get moving." Lucas urged.

"The blockade has been set up." Maria Hill reported.

"Now, we can detect any Vampire leaving, but we don't have enough personnel to guarantee interception."

"S.H.I.E.L.D.'s helicarrier has launched and is expected to arrive over New York in ten minutes."

Nick Fury commanded, "At that time, the helicarrier will use specialized weapons to attack the Vampire gathering place. Hill will be responsible for intercepting escaping Vampires, and you three will support Hill."

"Alright."

The call ended, and all parties sprang into action.

Tony tossed two walkie-talkies to Lucas and Gwen. "The channels are already set. Test them out. If there are no problems, we'll leave now and meet up with Agent Hill first."

"No problem." x2.

"Alright, do you need me to arrange a helicopter to take you over?"

"No, we'll go ourselves." Lucas declined Tony's offer.

He needed to get used to his current strength, speed, and other aspects on the way, to prepare for the upcoming battle.

Without further ado, Tony donned his armor with Jarvis's help, opened the window, and soared into the sky. Gwen shot out a web, attaching herself to Tony.

In a flash, the two disappeared into the night sky.

Lucas sprinted, leaping into the night sky. His mental power was released, working in full cooperation with his senses, and the terrain for several kilometers around was mapped in his mind. He quickly identified a landing spot and leaped again.

If it weren't for the floors below, Lucas felt that each of his leaps could cover hundreds of meters.

Could he step on air to gain leverage?

Thinking of this, Lucas immediately tried it.

Crack!

A sudden, brief crackling sound rang out, and Lucas stepped on air.

With his current strength, he could indeed step on air for leverage. But that way, his speed was not as fast as running and jumping on the ground.

Giving up on air-walking, Lucas jumped and moved across rooftops, heading towards the Temple of Eternal Night.

Not being able to fly? That's not cool at all.

However, when it comes to traveling, there seems to be a more impressive way.

With a thought, Lucas turned his attention to the Kamar-Taj portal spell.

I just told Nick Fury that I'm from Kamar-Taj, and the Ancient One didn't object. Does that mean she tacitly agrees that I'm a member of Kamar-Taj?

As a member of Kamar-Taj, how could I not know how to cast a portal?

He decided happily: after dealing with the Vampire incident, he would go to the Ancient One for guidance.
