POV — AZAZEL
The meeting did not go very well. We didn't agree on anything, but at least—for the first time since Lucifer sent us into the human world with his "case"—I stepped up as the leader of the team. They accepted it, since Lucifer himself had said that I was in charge.
The meeting went badly. We didn't manage to awaken any doubts in them. Marduk contributed to that, of course. He bragged that he had already completed the mission.
Later on, Naberius and I did manage to switch Aamon over to our side—but that happened much later, during the hunt for the angel.Aamon's conscience didn't suddenly awaken. Oh, please. He simply got used to the idea that he could run with us from now on.
Oh, and of course Naberius wanted a selfie after the meeting. He likes these human gadgets—far too much. He sent the photo to Selma, but without even asking, he sent it to Betty as well.
It was flattering that Betty zoomed in on the picture. She wanted to look at me more closely. That's why I finally dared to kiss her.We didn't tell her what this case was really about. She wanted proof that we weren't crazy.
Here it is. We caught the angel—my ex.We had to do it anyway.
She was quite furious when she walked straight into our summoning circle. I was the bait. She still hated me after ten thousand years.
Tsk.
The angel hunt didn't last long. She hated me enough for it to blind her. She came after me immediately when I was alone. By then, Naberius and Aamon had already prepared the angel trap.
Haha.
So which one of us is evil? She hated me for ten thousand years in Heaven, and I loved her for ten thousand years in Pandemonium.
Why haven't I been mentioning her lately? Because I no longer want an angel.Well—yes, I do.But that Milton quote changed my understanding of angels.
An angel is…
Aamon slammed something down with a loud crash, so I left my thoughts about angels for another time. It was just a shelf. In the basement of the police station.Like a criminal who attacked me, we're holding the angel here.
Only until she confesses. And until we convince Betty that we're not insane—but demons and Watchers. And that angels exist in this world.
The one we're about to transfer to the police station is the worst kind among angels.
I helped draw the summoning circle. Then we went back to bring the angel here.
Naberius came up with the idea that if we draw the summoning circle on a large sheet and cover her with it, the angel would remain bound even during transport.
The manhunt for the angel was successful—and justified. She attacked me, a peacefully walking Watcher.
I no longer called myself a demon. Ten thousand years passed in Pandemonium, but I was still the same Watcher.
What was the angel like?
Well—angry.A rule violation is a rule violation in Heaven. And I broke the rules.
I suspected she thought I had betrayed her the most.
I only wanted to know whether her personal revenge brought her here, or whether Heaven had sent her—and as the most suitable candidate against me, she had gladly taken on this excellent task.To attack a Watcher in the human world with a salt-pillar curse.
Of course, she didn't confess. She sat down in the center of the summoning circle and turned her head away.
We left her alone for the night. After one or two nights in the basement of the police station, sitting in the center of the summoning circle, this attitude will change. She'll get bored. She'll talk.
Or the one who sent her after me will come personally. Or send another angel. If no one comes, that's information too.
So we left the angel there.
And I didn't dare message Betty after what happened that evening.
She'll believe that we're not crazy when she sees the angel with her own eyes.
And if anyone were to expose me as a Watcher, not Gabriel Stone—Betty will hear it from me first.
If Betty sees the angel and believes that I am Azazel, I'll have fewer secrets. For a start, that's not bad.
Around midnight, I felt sorry for the angel. I asked Aamon to check on her.He took a photo as proof that she was fine.
And the next day—how lucky I was to have that photo!
