Chapter 4 - Nightmare’s Edge

He watched the whole thing and said, "Wow, so you're cheating now."

Kuzi replied with a neutral tone, "Hey, don't misunderstand me and her. Can I get a little help?"

Her brother came and slapped the hell out of her.

Hina jumped off his body and covered herself with her clothes.

Tatsuki said, "So she can finally hang out on the beach. That's cool… I guess. Her sudden obsession will stop as well."

Kuzi said, "This whole thing started because of one thing… You interfered with my novel, not knowing it's just a novel. I can understand someone manipulated you. I understand this supernatural power is not just any supernatural power. No matter what happens, be ready. I advise you two not to be separated, and I want you to tell me your every move, especially the grand one. At this point, there's no point in confessing about the author situation."

Kuzi walked out of the room as he was chill and stared at the newcomer, saying, "Be careful…"

He left, wearing his long black leather jacket. He took out a Cena bini and wore it.

He was peacefully walking on the road when he noticed a bike man smoking cigarettes, staring at him from afar.

The bike man waved his hand to him and made the 'come over here' sign.

The bike man smiled and said, "Yooo…"

His voice and face glitched. He sounded more like a monster. Kuzi noticed and moved backward. Suddenly, another bike man bumped into him from behind, whispering in his ear:

"Gotcha…"

Kuzi broke the bike man's jaw with his albo as he abruptly turned around.

Another man came at him with a piece of a metal bar, running toward him.

Kuzi used his legs and lifted the man up.

He punched another lady from behind and said, "Yoo, she's a lady… an old one at that…"

He kept dodging and waited for the perfect moment to run to his house. As soon as he got the chance, he sprinted fast and took a turn.

In a moment, he saw a gang of high school students closing the street. They were normally chilling.

One said, "Yo, asshole, what are you doing? Are you gonna pass or not?"

Suddenly, the whole image before him glitched, leaving him conflicted. All the boys, even the baddies, turned weird. Their lips stretched across their faces.

He turned around and ran back the way he came. He wasn't concerned about himself. He knew that if Tatsuki and Hina could see what he saw, they must be targeted as well.

Even though he knew why it happened, he didn't want to bother explaining things that were not easy for the mind to digest.

Above all, he thought he might put them in even more danger. If he told them—even if there was genuinely no danger—the worry and pain they had been through was unusual, yet they still survived this modern slave concept while holding their heads high.

Right after he reached the door, he saw a mailman standing there. The mailman was shouting, "This is an important letter! Please open the door. I had to deliver it personally."

He kept arguing and even started looking through the mailbox. She didn't know why but trusted him and opened the door.

It was obviously the housemaid who opened the door. She screamed the moment she saw his face.

But as soon as the mailman jumped on her, Kuzi kicked the back of his head with a metal bar.

He then fixed his jacket and shirt, checked his clothes, and nodded once at her face before going in.

For some unknown reason, she felt drawn to him. Even though there was an age gap, she didn't care. She felt an emotional rush, like butterflies.

Her face turned red. Everything she had just seen faded away from her memory. Her body froze due to the sudden emotional rush.

Tatsuki and the others ran downstairs. Just as Kuzi delivered the final blow, Tatsuki's girlfriend looked at him with dazzling eyes. Her heart started racing. She felt butterflies when he looked at them and said, "Are you guys okay?"

Even Hina felt something deep inside. The guys noticed but acted with fake smiles, filled with jealousy.

Tatsuki said, "What happened, though?"

The domestic worker lady said to him, "Ohh… how gentle can this man be? He just saved my life from a scammer pretending to be the mail guy."

Tatsuki noticed even she was acting differently. He said to Kuzi, "Yo… you've been hiding something, haven't you? Tell me—we can't trust each other like this."

Kuzi said, "All this is happening because me, you, and Hina—we three are related to the novel. A certain character from the novel, who appears to be the goddess of love and nightmares, has been haunting us."

He then approached Tatsuki and said, "Even though I admit it, I'm definitely not that kind of guy to have every girl fall for me. I don't believe in love at first sight. That's why I'm single—I can't get into any romantic stuff. Last time, when Hina and I were about to get a little cozy, the goddess possessed her body, and all that happened from that point on. She can possess any woman I'm emotionally attached to…"

Tatsuki said, "I get it… it all makes sense now."

Kuzi stepped back and said, "The nightmare God can only affect us through his dream-like reality. We need to find a counter, or we might actually die. We can't ignore it anymore."

Everyone was puzzled, except Tatsuki, Hina, and Kuzi himself.

Hina said, "Okay, I'm ready. I'll do whatever you ask. I just want to get rid of the whole thing."

The newcomer to the group said with a lovely voice, "But baby… you didn't tell me what's going on. Should I get you to a hospital or whatever you want? Just ask, I swear. What's going on, love?"

She just moved aside and said, "I can't. I can't tell you. I'm really sorry."

She ran back upstairs.

The newcomer started following her, but Satori held his hand and said, "We all know where this is going… Let's move on, shall we, bruh?"

The newcomer, filled with rage, looked at Kuzi's eyes. Kuzi noticed glitches appearing on the newcomer's face.

The newcomer ran toward Kuzi with a chair he picked up near the table.

He threw it at Kuzi and prepared a punch from behind the chair he threw.

Kuzi caught the leg of the chair with his left hand and swung it backward. He defended the punch with his right hand.

The newcomer stepped back, trying to fake a kick and punch Kuzi.

Kuzi flashed forward and punched his face.

The newcomer's jaw got dislocated. Blood flew from his mouth as he smiled insanely, pulled out his tongue, laughed weirdly, and fainted.

Kuzi said, "This is what I warned you about, Tatsuki. Things like this can happen. We can only trust ourselves—by 'ourselves,' I mean the three of us.

Now go get Hina, and let's get ready. Anyone else moving will suffer more than this idiot, drawing blood in front of you."

Tatsuki was shocked. He was obviously scared, but why shouldn't he be? Things would only grow worse. From day one, he saw a valuable friend trying to over exaggerate his rejection into his guest—or friend, Kuzi.

Tatsuki said, "Couldn't ask for more. I'm about to bring her."

A moment of silence passed, and suddenly they heard Hina scream, "Brother…" from the upper floor.

Blood flowed from the upper floor like running water down the stairs.

Everyone ran upstairs and saw a horrifying scene.
