Once again the sky broke apart as ten bolts of lightning dropped like giant spears, slamming into him over and over.
His world turned white. Every muscle squeezed tight, and he shivered with such raw pain that his teeth felt ready to shatter.
But through the agony, something changed. Instead of the lightning just burning him, his veins had actually started to sucked in the wild energy. As the lightning touched his blood, it turned into deep, dark crimson calamity sunfyre lightning.
This crimson lightning then raced through him like a million needles, spreading from his heart to every inch of his skin and soaking into his pores.

Huang Shi wanted to scream and jump up in joy, but the formation forced him to stay seated on the ground like a massive magnet.
Huang Shi then started to analyze the changes inside of his body, focusing on how the crimson lightning had started to pour into the pores of his skin, slowly changing and reforging them into a stronger version of itself.
Alright, I definitely feel stronger, although I don't know by how much. The problem is that those 10 lightning bolts seem to have only increased my progress by about 10 percent, and I'm damn sure that over time, as my body's resistance to the lightning increases, my progress is gonna start to slow down.
Huang Shi gritted his teeth. Even though he felt a bit more powerful due to his skin being refined by the calamity lightning, the overwhelming majority of the lightning was not actually absorbed by his body. Most of it was just sent straight through him, causing him immense amounts of pain.
Shit, it's like I'm getting tortured...
Huang Shi inwardly felt awful as he started to feel like, in this world of cultivation, the only way to truly become strong is to become a bona fide masochist.

Huang Shi was about to scream like a dying pig when Bai Xinyue finally moved. She had been watching him with an amused look, but now she waved her hand. A wave of soft, silvery-white light flew out and wrapped around his body.
The light felt cool and fresh on his skin. As it touched him, his burns began to go away, and the stinging pain stopped. But the light did more than just heal his wounds.
It felt like it was opening up his body from the inside. It worked like a bridge, catching the wild lightning and pulling it deep into his veins much faster than before.
Huang Shi stared at his glowing skin, totally shocked. He knew the system had called her a "protagonist," but this was crazy; she was basically using her spiritual energy to help him cultivate his technique faster.
What the fuck? Does she have the ability to make others cultivate their techniques faster if she uses her spiritual energy to support them? What kind of godly ability is that?
Just before Huang Shi could think about it more, the sky turned even darker. The forty bolts of lightning that were hiding in the clouds started to fall on him one by one. The sight was so scary that he started to scream even before the first bolt touched him.
"AHHHHHHHHH FUCKK! BAI XINYUE! I SWEAR TO GOD I WILL GET BACK AT YOU FOR THIS!!"
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
One by one, the heavy bolts of lightning slammed into Huang Shi's body. Each hit felt like a giant hammer smashing his bones, causing him to scream in terrible pain. His skin turned black and his muscles tore as his body became more and more damaged.
However, every time Huang Shi was just about to faint from the pain, Bai Xinyue's silvery-white energy would rush in. It felt like cool water on a fire, fixing his broken body just enough so he could take the next hit.
What happened next was hard for Huang Shi to describe. It became a never-ending cycle of pain and relief. A bolt would strike, he would scream in misery, and then Bai Xinyue's energy would fix him up. His body was being broken down and built back up over and over again.
Each strike of lightning pushed the red energy deeper into his pores, slowly making his skin tougher and stronger.

After around six hours of this torture—having his body destroyed and rebuilt hundreds of times—he finally heard a sound in his head that made him want to cry with joy.
