I was stunned.
Actually stunned.
Not the dramatic kind where people exaggerate shock for effect. No. This was the quiet kind. The dangerous kind. The kind where everything goes still inside your chest while your brain struggles to catch up.
I just stared at him.
At the calm in his face. At the certainty in his eyes. At the way he said things like they were already decided. What were they playing at? Because this didn't feel like a conversation anymore.
It felt like a slow-moving trap I hadn't noticed until it was already closing. My thoughts tripped over each other.
Rules. Closer. New position. Especially when it involves you.
The words kept replaying, looping in my head like a broken recording. Before I could even gather a response, Draven spoke again.
