Chapter 6: The Revelation
Ava's mind reeled as Lucas's words hung in the air. One of us? What did he mean? Before she could ask, Lucas vanished into the night, leaving Ava with more questions than answers.
As she stepped back into the gathering, Ava's eyes met her mother's. Catherine's expression was a mixture of concern and warning, but Ava couldn't decipher the message.
The night wore on, and Ava's patience wore thin. She needed answers, and she needed them now. As the guests began to depart, Ava cornered her father in the study.
"Dad, what's going on?" she demanded, her voice firm. Julian's smile faltered, and for a moment, Ava saw a glimmer of fear in his eyes.
"Ava, you're going to understand soon," he said, his voice low. "But you have to trust me. The time is near."
The time is near? What did that mean? Ava's frustration boiled over, but before she could press for more answers, a loud cry echoed through the halls.
The baby was coming.
