Chapter 6 - How to kill a bird

Silence

This was Sunny's response to the revenge declaration of The Wintness against the Vile Thieving Bird. It was a positive circumstance for him, as the Great Titan would be a desperately needed ally in the fight against the hated bird. So without wasting much more time, he asked.

"So Witnesses, as our interests align, why don't we form a little alliance against the bird?"

The Great Titan looked at Sunny and his harrowing height.

"I agree, Little Shadow, and if we need to fight alongside each other, we should share our abilities...

I can start if you want?"

"As you wish," Sunny replied

"Do you remember the blinding light that appeared before I killed the giant butterfly?"

"Yes, I do."

It was no surprise, as the light was brighter than Nephis exploding her cores, yet it didn't bring the same warmth; instead, it brought a sense of eeriness coming from it.

"That is a... Let's call it a form in which I can make the subject experience a part of his memories in an instant, usually the most painful ones; for them it seems as hours pass, but in reality it's just a few seconds. Apart from that, I am able to manipulate the senses of the creatures around me—as I believe you know after I used that ability on you, little shadow—and there is also my will, which is fairly potent. I believe it's all little shadow. How about you?"

Sunny was a bit skeptical about sharing his details of his abilities with the Witnesses, but after their deep talk, he started to believe the creature was a solid ally with whom he could open up. Especially since he cried next to him, which was embarrassing to say the least, Effie would tease him to death if she came to know it.

Sunny gave a quick rundown of his abilities to the Great Titan; after hearing him out, the creature frowned.

"My, my, you are truly powerful Little Shadow, truly the heir to Shadow God.

Calling you "little" doesn't seem proper anymore, but I grew fond of it

Hope it won't bother you."

The nickname sure was a bit childish; he was a sovereign after all, someone who bent the world to his will, so calling him "little" was most wholly unfit, but to the Witnesses, he was no more than a kid, so he understood their point of view.

"You can call me whatever you like, Witness."

Their preparation for the battle grew steady as they slowly passed the icy coast of Verge and headed towards the estuary.

(Sorry guys, I wanted to write some more, but I will have to skip the whole journey to the estuary; I have exams in May which will decide if I enter university, and I truly need to lock in for that. I didn't want to put the fanfic on hiatus, as I see no point in doing that, so for now I will skip a short part. When I have more time, I promise that I will write it.)

The journey to the Estuary was calmer than expected, both Supreme Titans passed through the graveyard of Chain Breakers and entered the massive black stone structure that was similar to a heart, where once the Mad Prince made the key to the Estuary. After a while the entered the empty room where oblivion grave stood,

but instead of finding it,

a nest laid where once Oblivion's body rested, it was made of many chunks of wood probably belonging to the wrecks from the graveyard of the once pound ships of Noctis, yet the striking thing weren't the wrecks , but the mirad of little shinny objects embedded into it. Gold , Silver, and shiny precious stones covered most of the lair.

Sunny was too distracted by the nest; only after a while did he realize that the owner was home. There, in between the branches, an enormous black figure was hiding. The vile thieving bird was home, and it noticed the intruders. A wild Shrek resouded in the area as the hunched figure rose revealing itself.

In that moment Sunny and the Witnesses I acted their plan, the later lounged against the bird, Sunny in the meantime summoned the shade of the wolf who embodied the concept of a predator and what else could be it's pray if not a tasty bird. As the Wintness was fighting the Terror up close Sunny decided to use the same tactic he once used in Ariel's Game, the probable next step of Shadow Dance, The Vile Thieving Bird represented the concept of theft so the concept Sunny had to become the one that opposed it- the concept of something unstealable,

Yet before he had time to join the fight, multiple flashes of white light blinded him—it was the Witness using its ability. What followed could only be described as a shriek so hateful and maddening that even most saints wouldn't be able to stand it. Sunny knew exactly what memory caused the bird to emit such a scream; it was the time he saw the reflection of the Forgotten God in Weaver's pupil.

What was happening could be compared to a disco, apart from the fact that the origin of the light was a Great Titan and the one responsible for the sound was a Cursed Terror; without wasting much more time, Sunny decided to join the dance...

The shockwaves caused by the exchange of blows shook the entire Estuary; each attack was shattering space bit by bit, yet somehow Sunny and the Witnesses were holding the upper hand in the brawl. The will of the bird was colossal; its weight was as immense as a mountain. In comparison, the duo's will could be described as a small cricket, yet even a small flow of water could shatter the most sturdy rocks.

And so they did; slowly but surely they kept the pressure on the Vile Thieving Bird. When one of them needed a break, the other would step in. By so not giving the vile monstrosity a break, they kept pushing. With each clash, the terror's movement became slower, more exhausted, and his potent will started to fracture...

It took long, but thanks to the initial flashbang attack of the Witnesses they gained the crucial advantage they needed, the shade of the wolf was already mending in Sunnies Soul Sea barely having survived two attacks from the Overgrown Crow, the fight was in its last stages, the bird was wounded, his right wing mangels due to one of the Witnesses ferocious attacks, half of it's tallons missing.

Yet even with his dire state the Vile Thieving Bird didn't want to go out without a fight.

All it took was one second, a frail moment of doubt, and one miscalculation on Sunnie's side; the bird didn't miss it and took the chance fate gave it.

It lunged; it took less than a blink of an eye, its talons already pointing straight for Sunny's chest... He braced himself for the blow, as there was no chance of evading it; he was ready to lose one of his soul cores, if not more... Yet... The hit never came...

The Witnesses took the blow...

The bird didn't want to lose time as the attack left him open, so he retracted his talons the fastest he could, but nonetheless he was vulnerable for a few seconds... That was exactly what Sunny needed. He shadow-stepped right on the bird's back and, augmented by the 7 rings of the [Curse] fused, he ran and plunged his odachi into the bird's head, unleashing all his killing intent....

The bird moved at first, but then it stopped after a while; in his eyes a sense of amusement and recognition stayed frozen.

Everything stopped...

Sunny felt an immense pain somewhere deep inside himself, deeper than his Soul Sea or even his Soul, as something was tightening around his very being.

Sunny collapsed, his conscience fading as the last thing he heard echoed in his mind, said by a familiar voice.

[You have slain a Cursed Terror, a vile, thieving bird.]

[You have received an echo.]
