Chapter 29 - Chapter 29

The morning sun spilled across the campus in brilliant, unapologetic streaks of gold. Shuchiin Academy was already humming with the vibrant energy of youth; clusters of students in crisp uniforms moved with a lighthearted cadence, their laughter punctuating the crisp air. It was a scene of idyllic peace—the kind of world Rin Kuga had resolved to protect, or perhaps, simply to possess.

Rin sat at his desk, somewhat removed from the morning buzz of the classroom. Spread before him was a meticulously prepared bento box, courtesy of Mai Sakurajima. Since the incident with the Centaur Orphnoch, Mai had been finding increasingly creative, often transparent excuses to seek him out. Today's offering was an elaborate lunch, delivered with a flustered explanation that failed to hide its true intent.

Rin knew the cultural shorthand of this world well enough. A hand-crafted bento from a girl like Mai wasn't just a meal; it was a declaration of favor. He traced the edge of the lacquer box with a faint smile, a rare flash of his "human" side surfacing in the quiet of the morning.

He clicked his chopsticks together and opened the lid. The arrangement was flawless—octopus-shaped sausages and vibrant side dishes tucked into a perfect culinary mosaic.

She really is an overachiever, Rin thought, an amused warmth blooming in his chest. Beauty, talent, and a stubborn streak that rivals my own. If I'm to have a Queen by my side, she certainly makes a compelling case.

He lifted a small octopus-sausage, chewed, and swallowed. "Not bad at all," he murmured to himself, the flavors rich and homey. "Actually, it's excellent."

SLAM!

The classroom door was thrown open with such violent force that the sound echoed like a gunshot. Rin didn't flinch. His hand remained steady, his chopstick hovering mid-air as he continued to enjoy Mai's cooking, his composure a sharp contrast to the sudden intrusion.

Two girls stepped into the room, commanding the atmosphere instantly. One had long, flowing pink hair that bounced with every energetic step; the other possessed hair as black as a raven's wing, pulled back into a sophisticated style that framed a face of icy, aristocratic beauty.

"Vice President!"

The greeting was a synchronized roar. Every student in the room, save for Rin, snapped to attention and bowed deeply toward Kaguya Shinomiya.

Kaguya offered a curt, polite nod of acknowledgment, though her internal monologue was likely far less gracious. If it hadn't been for President Shirogane's uncharacteristic insistence on recruiting this "Rin Kuga" into the Student Council, she would never have stepped foot in a common classroom to hunt down a transfer student. She made a mental note to find a way to "discipline" Shirogane later for making her perform such menial errands.

"Yay! Where is he? Where's our new recruit?" Chika Fujiwara chirped, shielding her eyes with her hand as she scanned the rows of desks like a scout on a mission. Kaguya trailed behind her, her sharp eyes finally landing on the boy by the window.

"Aha! Found you!" Chika shouted, pointing directly at Rin.

The two girls marched toward his desk. Chika didn't stop until she was leaning across his personal space, her face hovering inches from his own. "Hi there! Hellooo! Tee-hee!"

"Whoa—!"

Startled by the sudden pink blur invading his vision, Rin let out a startled exclamation, nearly dropping his bento. Before he could process who this chaotic whirlwind of a girl was, Chika had already seized his right hand in a firm, surprisingly strong grip.

"Come on, come on! No time to waste! The Student Council room is waiting!" Chika chirped, hauling him out of his seat with the sheer momentum of her enthusiasm. She completely ignored Rin's bewildered expression, treating him like a prize she had just won at a fair.

Rin stumbled after her, his hand still trapped in Chika's as they headed for the exit. He looked back at Kaguya, who was following them with a gaze of cold, silent observation—a beauty that easily rivaled Mai's, but with an edge.

As he was dragged through the hallway, the gears in Rin's mind finally clicked into place. He recognized these archetypes. He realized exactly whose inner sanctum he was being pulled into.
