Chapter 38 - Days Come & Go

"That's another problem. You never truly saw me as your sister. It must have been easier to betray your lady."

My heart broke into a thousand pieces when Almila said that. I felt such intense pain in my heart, which I thought had been broken long ago, that I could feel a tingling sensation in my skin. 

Every fiber of my being wanted to scream at her that this wasn't right, but I couldn't even manage a whisper; my voice was stuck in my throat. Just as I dared to form a sentence, there was a knock on the door.

After Almila had left the room, I just continued to sit on the floor. I don't remember how long I sat there for. The only thing I remember is getting up a few times to drink water. 

The hours passed in this room that was far too big for me, I felt smaller and smaller.

Just a few hours ago, the fires that had consumed my body had been replaced by an empty void. It was as cold and foreign as the north.
