Chapter 7 - Don't touch me...Asshole

BANG! BANG!

Rael ducked under the incoming blade of a scrawny-looking guard with a scimitar before pivoting to sweep his legs. Unfortunately, the man stepped back at the last moment to evade the attack. But Rael had already accounted for that.

Just as the man was about to adjust his footing, a chain suddenly whipped out and wrapped around his foot. Rael pulled and sent the man tumbling down before lashing out with the hooked end. The hook swung swiftly towards his neck but was deflected at the last moment by another guard wielding two short swords engraved with a loop of runes.

Rae closed his eyes and sighed deeply before opening his right. They were five guards against six of them. Normally, that would give them the numerical advantage but considering the fact that one of them was a healer and the other, a literal child...

Yeah, things didn't look too good.

Maki was fighting the tanned guard and was holding her ground aginst him, albeit barely. He had given the second sword to Dorm who was up against a duo wielding battle axes. He and Lem were trying to defeat those two while protecting Ema and Remis but they were slowly being backed into a corner.

Yet his situation was the worst...at least in his eyes.

"Why am I the only one facing two at once? I'm not even that strong. Poor weak old me? Does the world really hate me that much?" Rael sighed, wiping an imaginary tear from his eyes.

Suddenly, the hook swung downward with a sharp whistling sound, nearly piercing through the skull of one of the guards but he dodged again, but not without leaving a deep cut above his brow.

Rael clicked his tongue in annoyance.

Using the momentary lapse, he retracted the chain, halting it's momentum before spinning it rapidly above his head.

Before they could react, he spun it down again and caught it midway under his heel, causing it to swing in reverse unexpectedly towards the second guard. The guard was too late to react and barely managed to block weakly but earning himself another deep gash across the shoulder. The chain retracted into Rael's hand again as he started twirling it lazily with an eerie smile on his face, the chain quickly becoming a spinning blur behind him as he crouched into a fighting stance.

'Man…I'm so hungry.'

Dorm was breathing heavily, a few shallow cuts leaving small trails of blood around his body. He was having a hard time with the two axe wielders, the duo fought like beasts unchained with more than a bit of madness in their eyes. Their battle style was barbaric and crude, basically just rapidly hacking at him with intent to crush him through brute force. But he wasn't fazed. He had fought people and beasts before, and these two definitely leaned towards the latter.

They were stronger than him currently, but by far too predictable. Right as one lunged at him, he deflected the axe before proceeding to bash his shoulder into his chest, giving him some space. Right as one fell back, the other ducked low with a slash to his legs.

'Predictable.'

Dorm clicked his tongue and merely raised his right leg slightly before slamming it back down on the axe, holding it in place for a few precious moments. His blade descended to decapitate the guard but suddenly felt a chill up his spine. An axe wrapped in a warbling red aura suddenly swung at him from behind.

For a moment, he almost panicked but he focused back on the first attacker whose blade started to glow green under his foot before it was pulled away. Right before the crimson edge met his neck, a sharp shard of ice suddenly pierced the weilder's forearm slightly and knocking it back.

He looked back at Len who had her hands outstretched towards the two, another chilling gale coalescing to form another pale blue bolt. Behind her were her sister and Remis, both holding crudely formed daggers of ice with thin strips of leather on the handles. Ema was standing before Remis as if to shield her with her body.

Dorm shook his head inwardly.

'Never thought I'd be forced to arm children ever again.'

He spared Rael and Maki a quick glance before focusing on his opponents. His gaze then turned dead cold as it fell on the two cultists, the glow of their blades now extending over their lower arms. The edges seemed considerably sharper and deadly but that didn't faze him.

"You hateful pigs. You shall both die by my blade today." His open eye suddenly glowed a faint black light as he spoke a single phrase, causing an invisible ripple to spread around his body.

The words were spoken audibly but if Rael heard them, they would have sounded more like inaudible whisperings. His skin suddenly turned grainy, then brown, then a faint cracked dark grey. The same happened to his sword, making him seem to be like a stone knight clad in a dark matte armour.

'Renor...Valin...everyone...I will avenge you.'

His eyes were resolute as he charged forward at the two vile axe wielders.

He and Len had to hurry and help Lady Maki with the last guard. The young man, Rael, should be able to handle himself. He seemed confident about being able to escape for some reason. Normally , he wouldn't be putting his fate in the hands of someone less than a full decade younger than him...but it didn't look like he had a choice.Surely, his bravado wouldn't be baseless.

Surely...

Rael's right eye twitched.

'Huh? I feel like someone's talking shit about me again.'

He sighed as he narrowly evaded a blade aimed at his throat before deflecting the other with a short dagger. He managed to redirect most of the force but the clash was still enough to rattle his arm.

The two he was facing had managed to get a bit closer now, forcing him to dismiss his chain and fight with the dagger, giving them even more chance to get up close at the cost of many more cuts around their body.

But if they thought getting past the chain would make him an easier prey, they were sorely mistaken.

He was far from being a noob in short range combat.

"Welp, I think it's about time I ended this." He sneered as his eyes gleamed.

Ducking low, he weaved past and overhead slash and thrust forward at the heart of the dual blade welder but crossed his blades to intercept but then...

The blade never arrived.

Instead, he felt the cold metal of the rusted chain wrap around his neck in a single loop.

And Rael pulled.

SHING~

The man dropped the blades and grabbed his neck, trying to stop the fountain of blood but to no avail.

He dropped to the ground dead.

Before the other guard could process what had happened, Rael swing the chain in a wide arc, knocking his weapon aside and plunging it straight into his heart.

Blood spurted out of his mouth as he tried to grab onto Rael, grasping at his cloak with a weak, horrified look in his eyes but Rael cruelly twisted it before pulling it out with no expression whatsoever.

As he dropped dead beside his partner, Rael simply wiped at the faint grime on his cloak.

"Don't touch me...asshole."
