Chapter 39 - Chapter 39 Rewards

Jack Sparrow to scrub the deck?

As soon as this thought emerged, not to mention Jack himself, even Gibbs and Billy next to him felt it was a bit insane.

That was Jack Sparrow!

The legend of the Caribbean Sea!

One of the seven Pirate Kings!

Although he was down on his luck now, making him do chores meant for common sailors was just too... too insulting.

"Captain, this... isn't this a bit much?"

Gibbs whispered, trying to persuade him.

"Jack is, after all..."

"He's your old friend, I know."

Roger interrupted him, but his gaze remained fixed on Jack.

"But once you're on my ship, you follow my rules."

"Here, there are no legends, no Pirate Kings, only a Captain and crew members."

"Either you stay put as a passenger and disembark when we reach port."

"Or you become a crew member, work for this ship, and earn your food and rum."

Roger once again threw the choice to Jack.

He wanted to use this opportunity to completely break Jack Sparrow's arrogance.

He needed a 'tool' he could use, not a 'legend' he had to treat like a lord.

If he couldn't even endure this small indignity, then this Jack Sparrow wasn't worth much.

The atmosphere on deck grew tense again.

Everyone looked at Jack, wondering how he would choose.

In their opinion, given Jack Sparrow's arrogant personality, he would surely storm off.

However, Jack's reaction once again exceeded everyone's expectations.

The stiffness on his face lasted for less than three seconds.

Then, he suddenly gave Roger a smile that was uglier than a cry.

"Scrubbing the deck, you say? No problem!"

He actually agreed!

As he spoke, he genuinely bent down and picked up a brush and a bucket from nearby.

"To stay by this beautiful lady's side, let alone scrubbing the deck, I'd even lick the toilets clean if you asked me to."

As Jack spoke, he even exaggeratedly blew a kiss towards the explorer's deck.

His utterly shameless demeanor made Billy and Hanson's eyes almost pop out.

This... was this really the legendary Pirate King?

Why did he seem even less spirited than ordinary pirates like them?

Roger looked at Jack's appearance, but his heart didn't relax one bit.

He knew that someone like Jack Sparrow was incredibly adaptable.

The more submissive he appeared now, the more schemes he was cooking up in his mind.

He had his sights on his ship and planned to latch onto it first, then plot his next move.

Want to latch onto my ship?

It won't be that easy.

"Wait."

Roger called out, stopping Jack, who was about to fetch water.

"Mr. Sparrow, I think you might have misunderstood."

"My ship currently doesn't lack people to scrub the deck."

"Oh?"

Jack stopped and turned his head.

A hint of appropriate confusion was on his face.

"Then... esteemed Captain Roger, what do you need me to do?"

"Just give the order, sir, whether it's steering, hoisting sails, or fighting, I, Jack, will not hesitate!"

He thumped his chest loudly, looking utterly loyal.

"I don't need you to steer, nor do I need you to hoist sails."

Roger shook his head.

"I have sailors on my ship; they can also complete these tasks."

These words filled Billy and Hanson with a strong sense of pride.

Receiving such praise from Captain Roger made them happier than a hundred gold coins.

"Nor do I need you to be the first to charge at the enemy," Roger continued.

"I want to go to Port Royal," Roger finally stated his purpose.

"I need someone to get me in quietly, find the person I'm looking for, and get the item I need."

"And you, Captain Jack Sparrow, are the best candidate."

Jack's eyes instantly lit up when he heard the words "Port Royal."

That was precisely his destination for this trip!

He was just wondering how to get there.

Unexpectedly, the opportunity had delivered itself right to his doorstep!

"Port Royal? What do you want to do there?"

Jack asked, feigning reserve, though his heart was already blooming with joy.

"That's something you don't need to know."

Roger said.

"You just need to tell me if you can do it."

"Of course, I can!" Jack replied without hesitation.

"In the entire Caribbean Sea, there's no one more familiar with Port Royal than me!"

"However..."

He changed the subject, and that characteristic smile appeared on his face again.

"Getting you in, I can do that."

"But, what's in it for me?"

"Help me with this, and you'll naturally be rewarded," Roger said.

"After it's done, I can give you a hundred gold coins."

"A hundred gold coins?" Jack scoffed, shaking his finger.

"My dear Captain Roger, are you trying to appease those stinking drunkards?"

"I'm worth more than that."

"Then what do you want?" Roger asked.

Jack's gaze once again greedily swept over the brand new the explorer.

He licked his lips and said, word by word: "I don't want money."

"I want... this ship!"

He had shown his true colors.

His ultimate goal was still this ship.

However, Roger wasn't surprised at all by his words.

He just smiled, and then said something that completely stunned Jack Sparrow.

"Alright."

"I can give you this ship."

"However, my ship isn't that easy to get; you'll have to help me accomplish one thing first."
