Chapter 3 - THE LETTER:

Chapter three.

I sigh as I step out of the bathroom and walk to the bed before slumping on it and lay on my back.

'Hmmmm, what should I do?'

I sit up and scratch my head in frustration before sniffling. The nightstand catches my eye, no, the letter on top of it does. I pick it up, my brows colluding in confusion.

'I don't think I saw this before… HOW?'

I stare at its spotless white before unfolding it carefully, a red inked, elegant handwriting greets me.

'God really has his favorites, now doesn't he?? My ugly handwriting could never! I feel a little jealous.'

I grumble, and read with a displeased frown.

'Hi there, my pretty lady,

I'm the vampire who left you at the cabinet you're staying in right now, and am writing this to let you know that it's safe here. There won't be any vampires around this place, so, you can rest assured.

I'll be the only one coming.'

My frown deepens in annoyance.

'And from where is that shit going to let me rest assured?? You're the one I need to be running away from, weirdo!!'

I exhale sharply and continue reading.

'Anyways, I left the food in the box on the mantel.'

Raising an eyebrow, I look at the box that's on the mantel.

'Oh, I think I didn't notice it before…' I stare at it suspiciously before looking around warily, 'that vampire didn't come here and leave the things when I was in the bathroom, right?? This is not making any sense to me!'

I swallow before shaking the thoughts out of my head.

'No, maybe I didn't notice cause I was too focused on running away, or maybe my mind was disorientated cause I just woke up.'

I wipe my runny nose with my sleeve, looking at the box.

'It doesn't really matter since I already found it. THAT BOX HAS FOOD?!!'

My face lights up with a giddy smile.

'Ehehehehee. I haven't eaten for days, thank you, weird vampire.'

My head turns down as I continue reading the letter while walking to the fireplace.

'I won't be coming around tomorrow for a visit, so be careful. And take care of yourself, since you're mine now.

Salvius.'

I cringe in disgust reading the last part.

'Ewww, what the fuck?? I'll be running away in the morning as soon as possible! No, I can't be trusting a vampire, I will move now! After munching some food, of course. Tehehehee.'

Throwing the letter away, I excitedly open the lid of the box.

A snake pounces from inside.

I scream, flailing my hands in front of myself to push the snake away before falling back.

"FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK!"

I crawl backwards quickly, my heart almost jumping out of my chest and my head dizzy.

Adrenaline fades away slowly as I stare down at the fake snake lying there, motionless.

"THAT MOTHERFUCKER!!"

I groan, anger and relief rising washing over my chest.

'Fucker…'

I wipe my tears in frustration and sob.

"Fucker."

I curse under my breath.

'I'll kill him the next time I see him, what does he think he is??'

My blurry vision catches a letter lying down near the fallen box.

I crawl over sniffling and pick it with my shivering hands.

'Hahaaay! I scared you, didn't I?? Now that you're down to the ground, look under the bed, you'll see a basket down there, the food is in it.'

I wipe my tears and look under the bed, the basket there.

'JERK!!'

I tear the letter to pieces in annoyance before throwing them into the fire, but some scatter around because of the wind resistance.

"Tsk."

I gather them and throw them in the fire as they should've gone from the first try, then move to the fake snake, give it a good beat and throw it in the fire after.

"Hmph!!"

I crawl towards the basket with my broken pride and pull it out, look at the tasty looking fruits with my watering mouth.

I lean down and count the fruits.

'Four oranges, four apples, four bananas, lots of grapes and some kiwis. And three big water pouches made out of animal skin.'

I look at the pouches, sniffling.

"Should I drink some??"

'Hmmm, no, I already drank from the sink water.' My head moves up and down, nodding.

'I should save it for when I run away.

For now.'

My eyes move to the fruits, 'let's eat quickly, I've been starving and losing it since forever!'

I start eating slowly, the sweet grapes go first, since I don't want my stomach to get surprised by sudden guests after and throw it all out.

Then comes the tasteless orange, after I struggle to peel it.

"Hmmmm."

I stare into the fire as I munch, cheeks already full.

'Am I doing fast?? Eat slowly, Eva.'

I stare into the fire as I eat, then look around the room, rubbing the tears out of my lashes.

'Let's eat quickly and get out of here, I wanna go back home and take a refreshing shower. I feel so dirty and ugly.'

Firewood crackles fade slowly as I stare at the fire dying, no thoughts occupying my mind.

The fire glow dims slowly, the room getting darker.

'...'

I blink before gasping and crawling to the fireplace quickly, 'Shit shit shit!!

You dumbass!! I can't be letting it die.'

I start grabbing logs from the firewood stack and put them on the fire, killing it.

"Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!"

I scream as soon as the room goes dark, my heart hammering in my chest.

"Eva you freaking dumbass!!"

My hands move and quickly grab the logs I threw into the fireplace and take them out before I lean down and blow in the dark, 'Pleasee~'

Red glows in scattered places, I continue blowing and hold the wood above the little fire that comes back to life, lighting up the space in the fireplace.

I let the wood burn before placing it in, then burn the others before adding, leaving them above each other.

I let out a relieved exhale before looking at the fruit basket.

I crawl to it lazily and pick it up before walking on my knees to the fireplace.

Sitting in front of the warm fire comfortably, I cross my legs and grab a water pouch, my eyes glaring at the fire.

'Tsk, I should make sure it doesn't die, that gave me a heart attack!'

Sweet, my tongue is met with a sweet nectar instead of the tasteless liquid I was expecting.

My head turns down immediately.

'JUICE! It's my favorite raspberry juice!!'

I look the pouch up and down, then inside.

'Are all of them juices??'

I look into the spout to see if I can distinguish the color, but can't, so I quickly take another sip, and it IS a juice.

Joy claws its way up my chest quickly and my face brightens.

"Thank you!! Weird vampire!"

I quickly shut the pouch and take another one, opening the lid and taking a sip to check if that too is a juice, but I find water, then another juice, but this is apple juice.

"Waahhh!"

I hug the pouches, giggling excitedly.

'I'm taking these with me~ Thank you so much, sir vampire.'

I leave the juice pouches in the basket carefully, 'I'll give Mama some when we meet…'

I freeze staring down at my hands.

'Ah, I wonder if she's alright, did she and the kids escape successfully?? Where are they? The vampires didn't find her, right?'

I feel the slight surge of happiness I just got leave me, and all that's left is a void.

I sit there silently for some moments before shaking my head aggressively.

'No, Eva, don't think negatively, she must be safe, maybe she's back to the café. Let's go and check if she's there after filling my stomach.'

I pick a grape and tuck it in my mouth before viping my runny nose, 'I need to stay strong and survive like uncle chef asked me to.'

I continue eating, my vision getting blurry as tears well in my eyes and fall, then new ones take their place before rolling down as well.
