Chapter 41 - Chapter 41: Blurred Astrology

"Cho, quick, let me take a look at your star chart!"

Just after Charms Class, Adelaide grabbed Cho's arm and rushed toward the library.

Adelaide wasn't in such a hurry because she loved studying; it was simply because today was Wednesday, and there was Astronomy Class tonight—they had to hand in their Astronomy homework in four hours.

At the thought of Astronomy, Adelaide's temper flared up.

In the eyes of other students, the vast starry sky was merely composed of twinkling points of light; they only needed to memorize the specific positions and trajectories of these points to handle the academic requirements easily.

However, for poor Adelaide, the situation was completely different.

In her vision, the entire starry sky seemed magically filled with overlapping shadows; a single Jupiter could transform into dozens of points in the sky!

How was she supposed to accurately mark those complex and ever-changing astrological signs?

She had tried to sort out the starry sky, marking every Jupiter and its moons she saw, and then comparing this painstakingly annotated chart with Cho Chang's standard star chart to look for potential patterns—after staying up for several nights, Adelaide had to admit that it was just a waste of time; the thing had no pattern at all!

Then she started to slack off, rushing to finish her homework right before the deadline every time, relying on her intuition and half-guessing, supplemented by occasionally referencing her friend Cho's work, barely managing to scrape by.

She didn't have high expectations for her Astronomy grades; she would be satisfied as long as she could pass.

Ever since arriving at Hogwarts, various trivial matters had long since drained Adelaide; where would she find the extra energy for astronomical research?

Perhaps one day in the future, when she could fully control her precognition, she could use it to complete her Astronomy homework... Cho Chang had long since grown accustomed to Adelaide's frequent borrowing of her Astronomy homework—this was also the biggest difference between her and Hermione Granger.

In her view, everyone has their relatively weak areas or subjects they aren't interested in; even if Adelaide lacked interest or was completely unwilling to spend energy learning it, Cho Chang didn't think it was a big deal, as Astronomy wasn't a vital subject anyway, and could be dropped after the O.W.L. exams.

After a hard-fought battle, Adelaide eventually sacrificed her dinner to hurriedly fabricate her homework before class.

She devoured two delicious chicken sandwiches Cho Chang had thoughtfully prepared for her, then sprinted all the way, arriving at the top of the Astronomy Tower at the school's highest point just as the bell rang.

Having successfully handed in her homework, Adelaide finally relaxed. Amidst Professor Sinistra's hypnotic and monotonous lecture, although she still held up her telescope, her eyelids felt increasingly heavy as if filled with lead, and she was in a state of drowsiness.

It wasn't until the bell rang for the end of class that Adelaide perked up again and began her night owl life.

The next morning, as the sun just rose, Adelaide, whose energy had been drained from staying up late, floated out of the common room with dark circles like a panda's. A rich aroma of roasted pumpkin instantly woke her up—today was Halloween!

She happily looked up at the bats flapping their wings and the clusters of cute little dark clouds above the Great Hall, calculating that as long as she survived Transfiguration in the morning and Flying Class in the afternoon, she could welcome the Halloween feast!

In the Transfiguration classroom, the students were also in no mood for learning, chirping away about tonight's dishes—but they quickly quieted down as a grim-faced Professor McGonagall entered the room.

Professor McGonagall seemed to be in a very bad mood today; while explaining how to turn a stone into an exquisite jewelry box, she caught a Hufflepuff student drooling onto his stone and docked him 2 points.

Adelaide, being good at reading the room, straightened her back and listened intently. During the practical part, she succeeded on her first try; the stone before her gradually twisted and expanded with her incantation, eventually turning into an incredibly delicate jewelry box carved with fine patterns.

Seeing this, Professor McGonagall's expression softened slightly, and she praised generously, "Very well done, Miss Grindelwald! 5 points to Ravenclaw!"

Hearing this, the whole class cast envious looks at Adelaide, while she smiled modestly, appearing to stare at the jewelry box as if thinking how to make it more exquisite, when in fact, her mind had been wandering for a while.

Time flew by, and in the blink of an eye, it was Flying Class in the afternoon.

Students from Ravenclaw House and Hufflepuff House gathered on the grounds, sighing as they faced this week's ordeal.

The one in charge of teaching Flying Class was Madam Hooch; she was tall and had a serious expression, but her eyes sparkled with care for the students.

As usual, Madam Hooch first gave a brief introduction to the basic operation of the flying broomstick and safety precautions, then gave the command for students to mount their brooms and try to take off—after which the class proceeded as usual, full of mishaps.

On the Ravenclaw side, except for a few maniacs howling happily as they flew higher and higher, the rest of the usually proud and confident top students now appeared somewhat timid and cowardly, only daring to hover a few feet off the ground while their bodies trembled incessantly.

Madam Hooch shouted urgently, "Fly up! Edgecombe! Belby! Carmichael! A bunch of cowards, my grandmother could jump over this height!"

Then she cast a Sonorus charm on herself and yelled upward, "You few up there, Grindelwald! Chang! Bradley! Lower your altitude and slow down!"

At the same time, she had to divide her attention to the Hufflepuff side, where several chubby boys were wobbling on their brooms, looking like they might fall off at any moment.

Madam Hooch had to remain vigilant at all times; as soon as she noticed someone about to slip, she had to quickly chant a protection spell to prevent them from getting hurt.

The entire grounds were in chaos, with screams and shouts rising one after another, like a scene from a hellish painting.

Madam Hooch's low blood pressure was briefly cured as she kept comforting herself: don't get angry, compared to Gryffindor and Slytherin who are always fighting in class, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff are at least obedient—

"Adelaide Grindelwald! Do you want to stand shoulder to shoulder with the sun? Get down here!"

After a bout of chaos, Adelaide arrived contentedly at the Great Hall, which was filled with jack-o'-lanterns, intending to replenish her energy by eating and then stay up all night again.
