Chapter 6 - Why Is the Ogre Baby Stronger Than Everyone Else?!

[New Monsterpedia entry added: Demonic Ogre.]

[Demonic Ogre (Evolved Form) — Habitat: Cave]

[An ogre that formed a pact with Primordial Evil, Satan, resulting in extreme physical strength and amplified magic. Unlike common ogres, Demonic Ogres possess advanced intelligence, structured language, and social organization. They are capable of using tools, developing primitive technology, practicing agriculture, and domesticating creatures for labor or food.]

Maddy peered from the edge of the dirt, her six eyes twitching as she read the display.

"…Satan? Wait—Satan as in THE SATAN?! And these things are working with him? Oh God… no wonder I felt something so ominous the moment I laid my six eyes on those demons."

The aura radiating from them was no joke. Red light coiled around their muscular frames like living fire. They celebrated the way humans would; laughing, shouting, slapping each other on the back while feasting on the very worms she once called kin.

"I know it's natural to eat worms, especially in a cave like this, but being one myself… seeing it from this perspective is pure horror! They're bloody worm eaters!"

The crunch of a fried worm's skin made her shiver as the brown skinned ogre woman bit down, chewing slowly, savoring every bite.

"Ahhh, that's the one! Man eater worms… they're the best. Chimera worms are soft and bland, but man eaters? Rich, dense, full of muscle and fat."

The green skinned demon grew irritated as bits of flesh and saliva flew into his own bowl of worms.

"YOU! You're spraying spit and shit all over my food, you barbaric woman! Can't I get a moment of peace from your loud chewing!? You're supposed to be the embodiment of a newly evolved ogre woman in our species, yet you still act like a damn mindless ogre. Close your freaking mouth, or I'll fry you like those worms. Understood?!"

The brown skinned ogre woman snorted.

"Whatever!"

She turned away and continued devouring her meal without care.

A familiar, commanding voice spoke freezing Maddy in place. She hadn't realized she was so close to a throne like seat, crouched there peeking and listening, her body stiff with dread.

It was the chief ogre. He cradled his newborn in his arms but the child didn't share his red skin. Instead, the baby had pale human skin, a single short horn on his forehead, and soft violet hair that made Maddy curious.

"Ha! He crunches through mineral worms like they're nothing but soft boiled eggs."

Beside him the green skinned ogre nodded, his gaze fixed on the child's rapid growth.

"He's evolving before our eyes, chief. Give him a few more days, and he'll be swinging your war bat."

The chief ogre chuckled.

"You're right. After a thousand failures, we've finally birthed a miracle. My blood and that princess'… the match shouldn't have worked. Yet it did. A union even our calculations could not predict it is a union that defies even our wildest calculations."

The brown skinned woman turned, mouth still full.

"And to think we found her lying among the corpses, on the brink of death in the battlefield. It's almost as if the Primordial Saint himself knelt and handed his demigod to us."

The green skinned ogre agreed.

"Exactly. What a coincidence she was there while we were scavenging, right before we set sail toward this cave…"

The baby cried as he finished the mineral worm, demanding another.

"Easy there, boy. There are plenty of mineral worms for you. Ha! Look at him his magic and might are practically tangible. It's so dense you can see it radiating off him. Such a powerful offspring!"

Maddy's curiosity about the firstborn they'd been talking about earlier got the better of her. She peeked, and what she saw made her flinch.

"That aura… what's going on? It's as intense as the chief ogre's maybe even more. It carries both raw might and magic. My eyes have to be playing tricks on me… how can a child possess that kind of power? What is that thing?"

The blue and red auras roared like raging flames. Even from here, Maddy could sense that the newborn's power will surpassed the chief in no time. The green skinned ogre joined the conversation.

"Ever since we made the pact with Satan, Chief, our family has gained intelligence and new strength. If we keep birthing and multiplying our kind with that princess… we could even rival the Dragonborn."

The Chief's expression darkened instantly, the air in the cave growing heavy.

"Do not speak of those lizards so lightly. Even thousands of demigods were nothing but flies to the Dragonborn. But soon… yes, soon, my firstborn carrying the blood of a demigod will take full revenge for his mother. And with his siblings, they will make sure none of those lizards escape!"

Maddy's curiosity spiked at their words.

"A Demigod princess? Her blood in a child? Ending the Dragonborn? Just what the hell have I stumbled into?"

Before she could process further, the twin ogres appeared, carrying massive platters of fried, spiced worms and heavy stone jugs of booze. One twin spoke first.

"Chief… the princess hasn't eaten a single bite. I prepared this meal with my own hands, but she won't even give it a glance!"

The other added, irritated.

"She hasn't touched any of her meals. Just sits there in silence, acting like she's still royalty. It's getting on my nerves!"

The brown skinned ogre woman clenched her fists, muscles bulging with rage.

"That ungrateful wretch. We risked our lives harvesting those worms for her, and she has the nerve to refuse them? It seems she needs another lesson in obedience."

The chief ogre spoke, his voice cold and deliberate.

"She seeks the coward's escape through starvation. I will not permit it. A single heir is a fragile thing; I want this cavern overflowing with our lineage—an army of our flesh and blood. Only then can we shatter the Dragonborn and seize the world above. We were born for thrones, not for the rot of these damp walls… Force her to eat!"

The twins trembled.

"Yes, Chief!"

As they hurried back toward the cage, Maddy slipped back into the dirt.

"I have to see who this woman is. Every part of me is telling me that this is wrong... dead wrong."
