Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Nevier

'Really... I don't know what to say.'

Geoffrey remembered it clearly. A figure of a man called the best healing professional, but had to die for unknown reasons.

Because the novel's story only explained what was in Cedric's point of view, there were so many hidden details that Geoffrey could know only by being part of this world.

That was what was happening to Geoffrey now.

He was in a simple room. It was an office, but full of the smell of medicines that seemed sour and bitter to his nose. Not far from his place, there were indeed a number of plants and various types of preserved medicines and curses.

There were also so many types of books. However, Geoffrey didn't glance around at all. He was just stuck in place, with a flat smile because he was too shocked.

What was in front of him was none other than a man called the owner of the best healing Bloodline. A man very successful in the field of healing.

That man had somewhat long silver hair, then tired green pupils. There was also a black bag surrounding his eyes.

"....Nevier...?" Unconsciously, Geoffrey muttered that name.

That man, Nevier, the best genius healer, raised his head then smiled tiredly.

"Ah? You know me?" He coughed several times, scratched his cheek then sighed long.

"Sorry for involving you in all this." He said.

However, Geoffrey didn't understand what Nevier meant. He calmed himself for a moment, throwing away so many chaotic thoughts and possibilities in his mind.

"....Involving what?"

Nevier seemed not to bother, the man tiredly relaxed his body and answered:

"I'm the one who asked the emperor to have you help me in this research."

Immediately several things made sense. Geoffrey sighed resignedly. From the beginning, the emperor had no choice. So he entrusted everything to Nevier and hoped that Nevier could do something.

So, regardless of how difficult Nevier's request was, the Emperor would definitely work on it.

"No problem," Geoffrey said, his face still just as flat even though he really wanted to curse. "What has happened, let it happen, besides I need the emperor to protect me."

Nevier looked relieved with that answer. He pressed his own chest and sighed.

"Thank goodness," He said.

After that, Nevier seemingly didn't bother to ask further and immediately focused on a very large and wide note on his desk.

For a moment, Geoffrey was confused about what he should do. But in the end he chose to approach Nevier and see what the genius healer was doing.

In his notes, there were so many confusing things and too complicated to understand.

Geoffrey then listened to Nevier's voice.

"These are all types of curses and diseases that have a few parts similar to Cascading Decay. I noted everything and tried to find every detail of their information."

Hearing that, Geoffrey furrowed his brow.

'Even after all that, the result is still nil?' Geoffrey could see his grim future right then and there.

"...Then what will you do with me?" Geoffrey asked.

Nevier stopped what he was doing. Then calmly glanced at Geoffrey with drowsy and tired eyes.

"As you know," Nevier said. "Some humans have superior blood. That superiority forms a Bloodline, while each Bloodline itself always has their own type. They're called Superior Blood, something usually only possessed by nobles. Of course, sometimes commoners are also born with superior blood like me for example."

Geoffrey nodded, he knew that because it had been explained in the novel.

It's just, "What does your explanation have to do with our current situation?"

Nevier's smile widened as he expertly spun a quill pen in his hand.

"Do you know? That every Bloodline, as long as they are studied extremely, we will be able to see unlimited possibilities from their potential. I place hope in you in this part. Simply put, you are the remaining hope for me as well as the Emperor and the princess."

The Emperor had indeed told him that he had to study and develop a solution for the princess's curse. But hearing the explanation from Nevier directly, it really implied many things.

Nevier.

The healer who was always able to cure any type of disease, any curse, in any situation, showed himself that he was completely helpless because of this curse.

That even gave pressure that made Geoffrey able to feel an incredible headache. He wouldn't be surprised if he would experience amnesia because of this.

"Where will we start?"

Geoffrey clenched his hands, his jaw even hardened while his own expression looked too difficult to read.

'There's no other choice,' Geoffrey thought. 'Destroy the original story and survive, that's the only choice there is.'

Geoffrey's thoughts were broken by Nevier's gentle voice, "That's good. For starters, how about we meet the princess first?"

"...why?"

"So that you can understand how far and how dangerous Cascading Decay itself is."

For Geoffrey, that was something that made sense. He really needed to know how damaged Cascading Decay was and... Perhaps, if there was such a thing as a miracle, maybe he would find a way with his knowledge that came from the original story.

Of course that was a faint hope.

So faint that Geoffrey actually believed more that he would only fall far more desperate than find a meaningful solution.

"Alright, I'll go."

Hearing that, Nevier nodded. He stood up, stretched his tired body, then put both hands in his white coat pockets.

"Follow me." He said.

As Nevier said, Geoffrey walked and followed him from behind with cold sweat on his hands and back.

As much as possible, he wanted to act calm. But in the end that was something impossible. Even though he had lived in this world for two months, and saw how different the morals and feelings of humans in this world were from his previous world.

Geoffrey still had difficulty being able to truly act calm and normal like them in general.

At that moment, Geoffrey could only nervously follow Nevier from behind. They walked on the palace road that was luxurious and full of soldiers and servants.

However, the farther he walked following Nevier, the more restless Geoffrey became. The guards on duty became fewer, and the servants working became quieter.

Until finally, Geoffrey's body froze in place. He looked ahead, at least far enough ahead of him was a garden that could not be called a garden at all.

Every plant there was rotting, every flower wilted and lost its color. The trees dried up terribly, then followed by a very pungent rotten smell.

In the midst of all that, a girl with a black blindfold was crouching in front of a wilted flower. There was no expression whatsoever on her face. Her hair seemed to have lost its color, her body was so thin while in many parts of her body had rotted horribly.

Her own clothes were also rotting. Geoffrey didn't know what type of clothing that was, but certainly it was special clothing given so it could withstand Cascading Decay. It's just that the clothing also seemed to be slowly being destroyed.

Then, one last thing that caught Geoffrey's attention was a white flame that seemed to continuously burn the girl's body, but immediately dimmed and reignited weakly.

"We've arrived." Nevier's voice made Geoffrey realize.

At that moment Geoffrey realized he was already wet with cold sweat and felt dizzy in his head.
