Chapter 34 - VOW ON THE DEAD

Rain hangs motionless in the air, suspended by the pressure radiating from two monsters.

Ren lies below in shattered concrete, barely conscious.

Across the ruin, Izana steps forward from the smoke, blood trailing from the wound carved into his side. The injury from Hollow Purple still burns along his torso — not fully healed.

Facing him, calm beneath the storm, stands Satoru Gojo.

Blindfold lowered.

Blue eyes exposed.

Infinity hums softly around him, bending rain away in delicate arcs.

"You were sealed," Izana says quietly. "Then you vanished. And now you return from death itself."

Gojo smiles faintly. "Yeah. I've had a busy month."

They vanish.

The sky detonates.

Their fists collide midair and the impact folds clouds inward like fabric being wrung by invisible hands. Shockwaves ripple outward in expanding rings. Buildings below crack apart from the pressure alone.

Izana twists and releases a compressed gravitational blade from his palm.

Space itself caves inward.

Infinity distorts — trembles — then stabilizes.

Gojo counters with a flick.

Blue ignites in his palm.

Attraction drags entire sections of shattered skyscrapers upward, debris spiraling around him like a satellite storm. Izana slams his foot downward and gravity reverses violently, sending the debris crashing back toward Gojo like a meteor shower.

They disappear again.

Reappear miles above the colony.

Rain cannot reach them here.

Izana narrows his eyes. "Answer me."

He lunges, layering crushing force around his fist, gravity screaming inward toward Gojo's heart.

"How did you survive?"

Gojo catches the strike midair.

For the first time—

His smile fades.

"Binding vow," he says.

Lightning splits the sky horizontally.

"I made it with someone I trusted," Gojo continues. "A mutual vow. If either of us died first… the remainder of our cursed energy wouldn't disperse."

Izana's eyes sharpen.

Gojo's voice grows quieter.

"It would convert."

Red sparks crackle faintly around his fingertips.

"Not into raw power. Not permanently."

They vanish and reappear again, trading strikes that fracture the sky with every collision.

"It converts once," Gojo says, dodging a gravitational implosion that shreds the cloud layer behind him. "At the brink of death. Into reverse cursed energy."

Izana's movement falters by a fraction.

"So you healed."

"Yes."

Gojo's eyes harden.

"When he died, his remaining potential transferred under the vow's condition. I used all of it to restore my body."

All of it.

No permanent boost.

No endless supply.

A single miracle.

"One use," Gojo adds. "That's the cost. His power burned out saving me."

For a moment, something unspoken passes through his gaze.

Not grief.

Not regret.

But weight.

Izana speaks calmly. "And if you had not been dying?"

"The vow wouldn't activate."

A gravitational sphere blossoms around Izana, crushing the air into a screaming vortex.

"So you survived because someone else didn't," Izana says.

Gojo doesn't deny it.

Red flares in one hand.

Blue in the other.

They merge.

The sky darkens as if swallowed.

"Hollow Purple."

The sphere ignites — violet and absolute.

The beam erupts.

It does not explode.

It erases.

Clouds vanish in a perfect tunnel across the heavens. The barrier pulses violently as the beam slices across its surface like a scar carved into reality itself.

Izana reacts instantly, stacking gravity in layered shields, bending the beam's core just enough to avoid annihilation — but the edge tears through him, carving a smoking trench across his torso.

He is hurled downward, crashing into the colony in a spiral of shattered earth.

Gojo descends slowly.

Rain resumes.

Izana rises from a crater stretching half a kilometer wide, breathing heavier now, blood dripping steadily.

"…So that vow saved you once," Izana says.

"Yes."

"And you cannot use it again."

"No."

Silence.

Then Izana smiles — wider than before.

"Good."

The ground beneath him fractures as gravity begins building at terrifying density.

Gojo stands still.

Infinity stabilizes around him like a quiet ocean.

Below, Ren's fingers twitch weakly in the rubble.

Gojo and Izana facing each other across a city carved apart by their clash. Above them, a violet scar still splits the sky.

The vow is spent.
