Before long, he spotted a familiar face sitting in one section.
"Brother Manjoume is insanely strong!" two lackeys praised him with their usual smooth talk.
"Hmph, that's obvious," Manjoume said.
He sat back in his chair with his legs crossed, wearing an extremely arrogant posture.
"The man known as 'Kaiser' isn't around now, so this is about all the strength Duel Department has. Well, whatever. Once I join, it'll naturally rise to another level. I just hope the others don't hold me back."
The man called Kaiser, Ryo Marufuji, was widely recognized as the number one duelist in Duel Academy and had once been a member of Duel Department. Now in his third year, he had more and more of his own affairs to handle and rarely showed up.

"Boss! How did you end up under the chair again!?"
Manjoume snapped back into his chair, eyes wide as he stared at him. His reaction was sharp enough to draw attention from the nearby seats.
"It is you!?"
"You want to join Duel Department too?"
"Yeah. Why are you so worked up?" Yugen looked at him with confusion. "Miss me or something?"
"Of course not!"
Manjoume realized his reaction had been a bit much. He shot a fierce glare at him, then sat back down and stopped talking.
He had been careless. He should have known this guy would show up as well.
Just a few seconds ago, Manjoume had been imagining himself standing out in Duel Department and crushing everyone with skill. Now, all of a sudden, he felt that Duel Department did not seem that impressive anymore, and joining it did not matter much either.
At that moment, Lackey A leaned in and asked carefully, "Boss, how about we forget it and not apply?"
Manjoume glared at him at once.
If he backed out now, would that not make him look scared?
"No need." Manjoume snorted and looked coldly at Yugen. "Perfect timing. I have wanted a rematch with you for a long time. Last time I underestimated you, but I am not the same as before. Next time, I will win."
"Sure, sure." Yugen agreed easily.
Manjoume was not actually afraid of him. Ever since accepting the fact that this schemer had also come to Duel Academy, he had already been thinking about a rematch to wash away that shame. Whether or not he joined Duel Department, the second Duel was bound to happen.
Still, Manjoume had a strange feeling. If this guy passed the test today and joined Duel Department, which was very likely, then the atmosphere of Duel Department might go in a strange direction from now on.

"The next contestant is Yugen Fujiki, right?" the host asked. "Which senior would you like to challenge?"
Yugen walked onto the field and said politely, "I would like to challenge Senior Watanabe Shuuichi. Is that okay?"
As soon as he said this, many gazes turned toward him.
Watanabe Shuuichi was the only defending member who had not yet been challenged. The reason was simple. He was one of Duel Department's core members and had the most impressive record in the assessment module.
