Chapter 94 - Trap Lock Shifts Advantage

Here, unlike online play, a so-called random discard usually meant the opponent picked one card at random while it stayed face-down.

"You think there is no way I still have a second 'Delinquent Duo' in hand, right?"

Daichi Misawa sent the chosen card to the Graveyard and smiled with confidence.

"Your guess is correct. But the countermeasures I prepared for you go far beyond this. For 'Delinquent Duo', the second discarded card is my choice, and I choose this one."

He revealed a Spell Card and placed it into the Graveyard.

"I discard 'Broww, Huntsman of Dark World' from my hand. When this card is discarded by an opponent's card effect, I draw two cards from my Deck! (ANIME EFFECT)"

Yugen watched with interest.

So he even brought something like that. If he did, then his Deck definitely also had 'Destiny Draw', even if he had not drawn it yet. As expected of someone from the main cast, he could pack in extra pieces without worrying about dead draws.

After drawing two more cards, Daichi Misawa smiled. "I told you my preparations were perfect, First Place. I studied and prepared for this Duel thoroughly."

Yugen shrugged and smiled lightly. "I knew you had preparations. I was just curious how you would respond."

"Oh? Still so calm?" Daichi Misawa laughed. "Then let me see it. Your Duel when you are truly serious."

"I am always serious," Yugen said with a grin. "I activate Spell Card 'Card Destruction'. Both players discard all cards in their hands, then draw the same number from their Deck."

Both hands were discarded, followed by drawing. A card immediately popped from Yugen's Graveyard.

"One of the discarded cards was Spell Card 'Destiny Draw'. When this card is sent from the hand to the Graveyard, I draw two more cards from my Deck. (ANIME EFFECT)"

Daichi Misawa said nothing, but focused even harder. Despite the words, he could not feel any tension coming from Yugen at all.

It felt as if every countermeasure and advantage on the field meant nothing to the other side. That feeling only stirred his spirit as a Duelist.

"I will make you take this Duel seriously!"

"I told you I am not holding back," Yugen replied. "But since you insist, I will show you my main force. I banish the Light attribute 'Magician of Faith' and the Dark attribute 'Apprentice Magician' from my Graveyard to Special Summon!"

Daichi Misawa's expression changed. "Banish Light and Dark for this summon, could it be?"

"Spirits of light and darkness, offered to chaos, call the Legendary Warrior to descend!"

The two magicians became streams of light and darkness and poured into the rolling black clouds above. A beam of gold burst forth, cutting through the chaos, and a knight in shining armor descended onto the field.

"Creation of heaven and earth. Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning, Special Summon!"

Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning, ATK 3000.

The field erupted.

"Ma ma mia!" the Pot-loving professor covered his face. "Black Luster Soldier!"

On the platform, Asuka Tenjoin jolted. "H how is that possible? Envoy of the Beginning, but that is…"

"The legendary ace in Duel King Yugi Muto's Deck."

Duel Academy's Zane Truesdale was stunned for a moment, then his gaze grew heated. His Duelist spirit stirred, and even he wanted to face that freshman.

Someone else with Jellyfish Hair felt the same.

"Whoa, that is awesome! Black Luster Soldier! It is really Black Luster Soldier!"

Judai Yuki grabbed Sho Marufuji and shook him hard.

"I really want to Duel with Yugen!"

"B big bro, you are going to choke me," Sho Marufuji said weakly.

But no one was more shocked than Daichi Misawa, who faced the legendary warrior directly. He stepped back half a step. "Your ace is this kind of monster?"

He did not realize that what stood before him was a variant of the world champion Deck "Chaos" that once dominated competitive play. For a long time, all Yu-Gi-Oh! Deck were divided into Chaos and non-Chaos, with no middle ground.

The duo of 'Apprentice Magician' and 'Magician of Faith' used for defense last turn was a classic Chaos setup. One was Dark and one was Light, with Apprentice Magician providing strong protection and searching the Light Magician of Faith, while Magician of Faith could recover a powerful Spell Card.

In the early days, many Spell Card were extremely strong, with single cards able to flip a duel. By the next turn, the Graveyard naturally held the Light and Dark needed to call the Chaos ace.

"'Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning' effect!" Yugen Do said. "By giving up its attack this turn, I banish one monster on the field. I banish the 'Fusilier Dragon, the Dual-Mode Beast' equipped with 'Power of the Guardians'. Chaos Dimensional Slash!"

Black Luster Soldier raised its sword, one edge light and one edge dark. The surge split the dimension, and the heavy Machina was dragged into the Different Dimension.

"So Power of the Guardians is useless against Envoy of the Beginning?" Daichi Misawa clenched his teeth.

Protection against destruction meant nothing when the monster was banished.

"Then I banish the Light monster 'Shining Angel' that I discarded last turn, and another Dark 'Apprentice Magician' in my Graveyard!"

Daichi Misawa froze.

That condition again. Was there a second Envoy?

Of course not, but after the big one, Yugen still had the small one.

"Wizard who commands light and dark, descend now. Chaos Sorcerer, Special Summon!"

Chaos Sorcerer, ATK 2300.

"Chaos Sorcerer's effect. Once per turn, by giving up its attack, I banish one monster on the field. I banish the last 'Fusilier Dragon, the Dual-Mode Beast' as well!"

Light and dark magic swirled, and the final Machina vanished into the vortex.

Daichi Misawa stared blankly.

Not again, to the Different Dimension?

Off to the side, Manjoume, who had been crushed earlier by Judai Yuki, finally looked up with some light in his eyes. This was a familiar feeling, banish everything.

"But at least this means you cannot attack this turn," Daichi Misawa said, taking a breath.

Both Envoy and Sorcerer shared that restriction.

"That is not necessarily true," Yugen interrupted.

"What?" Daichi Misawa said.

"It is true the Envoy that used its effect cannot attack, but that does not mean my offense ends here."

Yugen revealed another card.

"Spell Card 'Metamorphosis'! I tribute one monster on my field to Special Summon a Fusion Monster of the same Level from my Polymerization Deck. I tribute 'Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning'!"

Daichi Misawa was stunned.

By tributing the Envoy that already used its effect, the attack restriction vanished. And Level 8 meant a free Level 8 Fusion.

"Black dragon empowered by meteors, descend. Level 8, Meteor Black Dragon, Special Summon!"

The evolved form of Red-Eyes Black Dragon obtained from the Duel Department, a massive black dragon wreathed in magma spread its wings.

Meteor Black Dragon, ATK 3500.

Daichi Misawa's face tightened. "The legendary evolution of Red-Eyes Black Dragon, summoned without Red-Eyes Black Dragon itself."

"'Meteor Black Dragon' attacks directly!"

The dragon unleashed a pillar of molten fire that swept over Daichi Misawa.

"Argh!"

Daichi Misawa, LP 4000 to LP 500.

His Life Points fell to a flicker. Kneeling amid black smoke, Daichi Misawa finally realized something.

From the very beginning, his opponent might have planned for trap lockdown. With Chaos and banishment effects removing monsters nonstop, and traps sealed by his own card, the one trapped by the lock was himself.

Daichi Misawa's premonition was correct to a certain extent. A Chaos Deck did not rely much on traps, and even the old championship builds often carried their own lockdown trap, Royal Decree. When the core Chaos monsters were already overwhelmingly strong compared to other Deck, it was natural that in a situation where both sides were locked by traps, the Chaos side held the advantage.

Yugen said, "I activate the Continuous Spell Mirage of Nightmare. During the opponent's Standby Phase, they draw until they have four cards in hand, but during my own Standby Phase I must discard the same number of cards I drew. I'll set one card, and my turn ends."

Daichi Misawa said, "My Turn!, Card Draw!"
