Chapter 64 - Revealing Spirit Visions

They hurriedly steadied their shaking hands and began writing notes at full speed. Pens scratched across paper as no one dared to interrupt.

"The two young warriors stepped onto an altar," Yugen continued. "There were braziers burning on both sides, and crossed greatswords behind them. They vanished on the altar, one becoming light and the other dark, then merged together and transformed into the form of Black Luster Soldier."

As they took notes, the experts whispered among themselves. Some murmured that it sounded like a chaos ritual, while others wondered if it meant ritual materials.

The leader felt as if he had been struck. A thought flashed through his mind, sharp and sudden.

They had always been researching the possibility of a form stronger than the so-called Envoy. But judging from this Spirit Vision clue, had their direction been wrong all along? Perhaps the key lay in the choice of ritual materials.

"Oh, I also saw another scene," Yugen added.

The experts stiffened. This was already rare enough, and now there was more?

"Light appearing within endless chaos," Yugen said. "The young warrior gradually grew into a chaos envoy within that light. It might be better if you have a professional artist do a sketch later. I can describe the scene in detail."

He did not stop there. "And there was another image as well."

The experts could only stare at him. Soon, they realized their expectations had still been too low.

There were more than three scenes. Yugen went on to describe several different visions in one breath, from ancient ritual grounds to a Gaia knight charging on horseback and transforming into Black Luster Soldier. His descriptions flowed without pause.

Before long, the expert group was left in awe. Seeing so many Spirit Vision at once was unheard of, and the level of detail he provided for each scene was even more shocking.

The leader briefly suspected that Yugen might be making it all up. Yet the resonance with the Ruins and the acknowledgment from the Black Luster Soldier Spirit were facts witnessed by everyone present. That made doubt difficult to maintain.

Just how terrifying was this level of Spirit affinity? None of them realized that Yugen had not experienced any Spirit Vision at all. He was simply someone from a future where real cards existed, and he knew exactly how the entire Deck would be strengthened later on.

What the research group found unbelievably precise still felt incomplete to him. He even knew the general ranges of attack and defense values and the effects for each card.

However, Yugen understood that in this world, creating cards did not mean freely writing stats and effects. A card's text described the abilities it already possessed, translating its power into Duel rules that ordinary Duelist could understand.

Writing an effect did not grant the card that power. The power came first, and only then could the correct text be written. Because of that, simply reciting future stats and effects would not help the process.

What Yugen described first were the future Black Luster Soldier Deck cards Knight of Dawn and Knight of Dusk, along with the ritual spell Super Soldier Synthesis. Knight of Dawn and Knight of Dusk were both Level 4 Warrior monsters used specifically as ritual materials. When used to ritual summon Black Luster Soldier, they granted powerful effects like banishing an opponent's monster, banishing one card from the opponent's hand for a turn, and allowing multiple attacks in a single turn. (ANIME EFFECT)

Super Soldier Synthesis was the strongest ritual spell in the Black Luster Soldier system, allowing ritual summoning using monsters from the hand and the Deck. He also briefly described several other support cards based on memory.

These cards would only be released many years later, and even then, the environment would already be too harsh for Black Luster Soldier to keep up. But if they could be developed now with the help of Kaiba Corporation's research team, they could still be very strong.

Yugen was only testing the waters. He had no proof that future cards could truly be created in this world, so he treated this as an experiment using Seto Kaiba's top-tier research team.

The leader exchanged contact information with him and stressed repeatedly that he should get in touch if he remembered anything else. In return, the team promised to notify him immediately if there was any progress.

If this experiment succeeded, it would be meaningful for Yugen in more ways than one. It would not only strengthen his chaos Deck but also prove that his memories of future cards could become a vast and endless resource.

"Overtime. All of you are working overtime," the dark-eyed leader shouted excitedly, as if he could already see a breakthrough ahead.

The Black Luster Soldier Spirit floated quietly behind Yugen. Listening to his long and confident explanation, a question mark seemed to appear over its head.

Did the master really see all those Spirit Vision? Why did it not know about a single one? Could it be a fake Spirit after all?

A few days later, Mokuba Kaiba sent over the Rare Card list that had originally been scheduled to go to Duel Academy. Just as Yugen had expected, his eyes went straight to the "VWXYZ" LV Series that took up the main spot on the list. He did not hesitate and intercepted that LV Series first.

Since the shipment had been planned to go through Duel Academy's internal sales channels, the prices were ones you would never see on the open market. On top of that, the bonus Yugen had received earlier from Kaiba Corporation was still mostly untouched, so his budget was more than enough. With money not being a concern, he felt free to pick calmly.

Next, he noticed the card that Manjoume had used in the anime, "Magical Mallet." In the animated version, it could shuffle any number of cards from the hand, including itself, back into the Deck, then draw the same number of cards. It was a card meant to fix bad opening hands.

In the real version, it had been nerfed into shuffling and replacing all hand cards except itself. That change made it a straight loss of one card, and its usefulness dropped sharply. Yugen thought about it and decided that even with the anime effect, a free hand swap was not that impressive in a world driven by fate, where even Deck search effects were not especially valued.

Besides, he already had a large stock of anime limited filtering and draw cards, so under normal circumstances he did not need Magical Mallet at all. Still, after checking the prices, he saw that Magical Mallet was among the cheapest cards in the whole set. It might also have uses in certain niche trick Deck, so he picked up three copies anyway.

After that, he saw the key plot card, "Winged Kuriboh LV10." By discarding two cards from the hand, it could evolve Winged Kuriboh into an LV10 Rare Card. In the entire Duel Academy, only one person even owned Winged Kuriboh, so the card might as well have had "exclusive to Jellyfish Hair" printed on it. (ANIME EFFECT)

What Yugen had was Kuriboh, not Winged Kuriboh, so the card was completely useless to him. In the end, he decided to pass it on to Judai Yuki. After making his picks, there really was not much left that clearly suited Manjoume.

"Don't worry. Before it gets sent to Duel Academy, we'll adjust things and add other Rare Card as compensation," Mokuba Kaiba said to him. Yugen thought about it and figured that if those good cards ended up in Manjoume's hands, they might just get ruined sooner or later anyway, so accepting them now was better than letting them go to waste.

There were only two days left before the term at Duel Academy began. On the day before leaving for the island, he went to Duel Dojo one last time to say goodbye to the master and the other students. As soon as he stepped inside, he saw the students kneeling on the floor with their heads lowered, while Hall Master Takeuchi stood in front, loudly scolding them.
