Chapter 71 - Chapter 71

THE SIEGE OF STERLING HOSPITAL

For thirty days, Kei Luz ran her empires from the back of a blacked-out SUV parked in the hospital lot.

Between high-stakes Zoom calls for Luz Group and menu tastings for K-Street, she became a fixture at Sterling Hospital. Every morning at 8:00 AM and every evening at 6:00 PM, she was there.

Week 1: Homemade bentos and expensive orchids. Fay walked past her like she was a ghost.

Week 2: Rare vintage books and artisanal coffee. Fay handed the coffee to the first intern she saw without breaking stride.

Week 3: A bracelet she remembered Fay wanting a decade ago. Fay didn't even look at the box, she just told the head nurse to "clear the clutter" from the intake desk.

Kei was relentless. She used the same tenacity that built a car company to try and dismantle Fay's silence. But she underestimated one thing, Fay's stubbornness was fueled by ten years of pain and Kei's presence was salt in the wound.

THE BARRICADE

On the thirty-first day, Kei arrived with a box of warm almond croissants. She reached the double glass doors of the surgical wing, but a heavy-set man in a navy security uniform stepped into her path.

"Ms. Luz?" the guard asked, looking genuinely apologetic.

"Yes, Mike. Good morning. Is Dr. Fay in here?" Kei reached for the door handle.

"I'm sorry, ma'am. I have orders." He held up a clipboard with a signed memo."Dr. Fay has requested a formal restriction. No personal deliveries, no unauthorized visitors for the surgical department. Specifically… you."

Kei felt the blood drain from her face. "She banned me?"

"She said it's a 'distraction to patient care,' ma'am. If you don't leave, I have to call the Chief."

Kei stood there, the box of croissants cooling in her hands. The rejection didn't just sting, it felt like a physical blow to the chest. Fay wasn't just ignoring her anymore she was erasing her.

THE GRAND GESTURE

Most people would have slunk back to their penthouse. But Kei Luz didn't become a billionaire by taking "no" for an answer. If she couldn't get into the building, she would make the building impossible to stay in.

By 2:00 PM, the atmosphere outside Sterling Hospital shifted.

Fay was in the middle of a grueling shift when she heard the whispering among the nurses.

"Dr. Fay… you might want to look out the window," a young resident muttered, suppressing a grin.

Fay groaned, rubbing her temples. "If it's another delivery...."

"It's… not a delivery."

Fay walked to the large observation window overlooking the hospital's main plaza. Her heart stopped.

Across the street, perched between two massive cranes owned by a Luz Group construction subsidiary, was a banner the size of a city bus. In bold, elegant script, it read:

FAY TEN YEARS WAS A MISTAKE. EVERY DAY SINCE HAS BEEN ABOUT YOU. I'M NOT LEAVING THE BRIDGE.

Below the banner, a sea of thousands literally thousands of deep red rose-shaped balloons were tethered to the ground, swaying in the wind like a living ocean of crimson. In the center of the display stood Kei, looking tiny from the fifth-floor window, holding a megaphone.

The entire hospital staff was pressed against the glass. Patients were taking photos.

"She's insane," Fay whispered, her face flushing a deep, furious red. "She is absolutely out of her mind."

"It's romantic," the resident sighed.

"It's a public nuisance!" Fay snapped, though her hand trembled as she gripped the windowsill.

She looked down and saw Kei look up. Even from five stories up, their eyes locked. Kei didn't wave. She didn't smile. She just stood her ground amidst the balloons, a woman who had built an empire but would burn it all down just to get one more minute of Fay's time.
