Chapter 59 - Offer Your Heart, Kokabiel

"Kokabiel, why did you steal our Church's-"

Holding the Destruction Holy Sword nearly as tall as herself, Xenovia suppressed the unease in her chest and questioned the ten-winged fallen angel hovering in the distance.

"Steal? That sounds so unpleasant, little girl."

A mocking smile spread across Kokabiel's pale face.

"I clearly killed all the guards and then openly took your Holy Swords. How does that become 'stealing' in your mouths? Your Church is useless and poorly managed. Are you planning to blame that on me?"

"Whether you call it stealing or robbery, those Holy Swords have always belonged to the Church. Why would a fallen angel cadre like you do such a thing?"

"Why? Because it was interesting at the time!"

Kokabiel glanced toward Irina as he spoke, his grin stretching wide, faint madness seeping through it.

A bright magic circle several meters in diameter suddenly appeared in the empty air behind him.

Dozens-no, hundreds-of miniature light spears formed in an instant.

"But your presence is far too boring. Just two small-fry Holy Sword users, not even worth making me serious. Since the Church doesn't value the Holy Swords, then you two are useless as well. Just die here."

With a casual wave of his right hand, the light spears behind him shot forward, expanding rapidly as they flew.

In a blink, countless brilliant spears filled the field of vision.

Xenovia and Irina's expressions changed at the same time, a powerful sense of danger surging through them.

Even from nearly a hundred meters away, they could clearly feel it.

Each light spear carried enough power to seriously injure-or outright kill them.

One mistake, and not only they, but the believers behind them would be wiped out by this large-scale attack.

"Irina!"

Xenovia stepped forward, shouting sharply.

"Understood!"

She had only called her name, but years of cooperation were enough.

Irina immediately grasped her intent and moved in front of Hiro, her expression solemn.

In a town ruled by devils, the Church was unwilling to interfere, afraid even to step inside.

The church itself was already broken and deserted, a place where the glory of the Lord could no longer shine.

But when Irina thought of the statue of the Virgin Mary behind her, freshly cleaned, the benches and stone walls carefully tidied, a sense of respect rose unbidden.

There was no way an "enthusiastic citizen" just happened to appear in such a desolate place.

Her poor believer-san must have endured so much to avoid devil persecution.

Now, because of them, he was facing a fallen angel.

But rest assured.

As long as Xenovia and I are here, we will not let a devout believer of our Lord be harmed by evil.

"Enthusiastic citizen-san, please don't move. It could be very dangerous."

"O-oh. Okay."

Hearing the rapid warning, Hiro nodded obediently, quietly watching as the two girls stood in front of him.

For now, at least, it hadn't reached the level of a bloody battle.

"Haa!"

"Hah!"

Bang!

The explosions of light spears mixed with the girls' shouts, filling Hiro with a strange sense of emotion.

He didn't know why Xenovia and Irina were protecting him so desperately, but regardless, the scene stirred something in him.

Even-

Bang!

His right foot lifted slightly, dodging splashing warm mud.

They probably won't last long.

In just a few seconds, every light spear Kokabiel released was destroyed by Xenovia and Irina.

"Oh? You blocked it?"

Watching their struggle, excitement flickered across Kokabiel's face, like a child who had found a new toy.

"Citizen-san, are you alright?"

In front of Hiro, Irina-temples damp with sweat from the strain-was slightly out of breath, yet still checked on his safety first.

Her eyes never left the sky.

"Thanks to your protection, I wasn't hurt at all. Thank you."

Looking at the two girls' backs, Hiro smiled as he spoke, whether they could see it or not.

Above them, Kokabiel showed no anger despite accomplishing nothing.

"Since you're still alive, let's end things here for today."

His wings flapped twice.

A circular magic circle formed beneath his feet.

He looked down at the three of them, his smile twisted and expectant.

"I hope you'll bring me some amusement next time. Along with those two Maou's sisters."

Is he planning to run?

Hearing this, Hiro-still firmly protected behind Xenovia and Irina-raised an eyebrow.

In his right hand, he swiftly manifested Gáe Bolg from the system space.

He leaned back slightly, legs staggered, taking a throwing stance.

"Kokabiel! Are you planning to escape!"

Xenovia slammed her Holy Sword into the ground, shouting mockingly.

"Escape? No. I'm simply saving the interesting food to savor later."

Kokabiel sneered, glancing at the blood-red spear in Hiro's hand, completely unaware of the danger.

The teleportation circle beneath his feet grew brighter, clearly on the verge of activation.

At the same moment, the spear Hiro had obtained less than an hour ago was ready.

"Offer your heart! Kokabiel!"

He lifted his head, eyes fixed on the distant, nonchalant fallen angel, and released the true name of the treasure in his hand.

The spear turned into a red streak, vanishing as it left his grip.

Xenovia and Irina turned around at the same time, expressions blank with confusion.

"Heh. A Sacred Gear user? Child's play."

Kokabiel sneered, his ten wings folding forward to block the incoming red streak.

Then-

Under his incredulous gaze, the streak twisted along an impossible trajectory, bypassed his wings entirely, and pierced straight through his chest.

It tore through his beating heart.

"Wha-"

"So that's what 'offering the heart' means?"

Blood spilled from Kokabiel's mouth as he spoke his final, unwilling words.

Then his figure vanished.
