Chapter 9 - The king who chose to protect

Caspian's POV

As Fredrick my advisor tells us about the prophecy , I knew war was coming and we needed to be prepared because it can be sooner than later, and then i felt fear, not for myself but for my delicate mate, I know she's strong, she's a golden wolf but putting her in danger was what feared me the most, we just met and there's no time for us to get to know each other, spend time together and have peace, instead there's an upcoming war, which I know will bring disasters and death we need to be prepared and we need to inform the other supernatural kings about this as soon as possible, so they can be prepared and instead of waiting for us to be attacked first then we attack first , which means that i and my mate will have to fight together, side by side.

Before all this could completely dawn on me, a loud crash was heard and suddenly shadowy figures began appearing and the first thing I did was to pull my mate by my side, yes she is strong but that doesn't stop me from protecting her, my mate and this pack were in danger and I had to protect them, It was at this time I saw the need of bringing warriors while going out, normally I wouldn't have brought any warriors with me, I would have just gone with my gamma and delta, but because we were going to one of the packs under my kingdom and it was unannounced, i decided to take some warriors and it was at this time I thanked the moon goddess.

While thinking of how to get my mate to safety as this was her first time experiencing such, and she just got her wolf and she has not really practiced how to fight before because her shitty alpha forbade women from training with the men, I had to take her to safety so she won't be harmed but then she shocked me and said to me.

"My king, even tho I've never learnt how to fight and I never trained with the rest, I'm your Luna, the queen of all werewolves and Lycan and I refuse to run away while my people are in danger" and then I felt proud of my little mate, my heart was filled with so much love for her, she had never fought before but she was willing to stand by my side and fight together with me, she refused to be protected, but she insist on protecting her pack.

Not long after, the fight began, both Astrid and I stood back to back, our Lycan forms glowing in the moonlight. The shadowy figures, with eyes that glowed like embers, crept closer. My soldiers, gamma and delta, flanked them, ready to defend.

"Protect the pack," I mind-linked my soldiers. "Gamma, take point. Delta, cover our flanks."

The shadowy figures charged, their movements swift and deadly. Astrid and I fought in perfect sync, our claws swiping through the air. My powerful roar echoed through the forest as I took down multiple attackers.

Astrid darted between the shadows, her golden wolf form agile and quick. She landed a series of swift kicks, sending the attackers stumbling back. I was surprised, I didn't know she could fight like this, she never received training and she just got her wolf but she was this strong and could fight like this, I was so proud watching my lovely mate, I knew we would be a power couple, with her by my side I didn't need to worry too much because she was a feisty fighter.

I joined her, my jaws snapping shut around an attacker's throat. The fight didn't take time because the shadowy figure wasn't expecting this when they were given information about the Lycan king leaving to another pack so they thought he didn't come with warriors and let their guard down. And one of them let their guard down due to panic that they were not aware they would be surpassed like this and mentioned alpha John's name, I suspected he was working with the enemies, they were rogue werewolves, but I didn't expect them to look like this, they were stronger and I didn't have enough evidence, but now he's so done for.

After defeating the shadowy figures, Astrid and I approached the alpha of the Red Mist Pack. The alpha's eyes darted between us, a mixture of fear and defiance.

"You know something about these shadowy figures," I growled, my voice low and menacing.

The alpha sneered. "I don't know what you're talking about."

Astrid's eyes flashed with anger. "Don't lie to us. We know you've been working with rogue werewolves."

The alpha's expression faltered, and he took a step back. "I...I was trying to protect my pack."

My eyes narrowed. "By allying with monsters? You're no better than them."

Just as I was about punishing the alpha, I received a mind link from the spies I sent to investigate more about the girl.

"Your majesty, we have information about the girl whom the alpha was planning on taking as one of his mistresses".

"Tell me what information you have, I can't meet you now, and I need to give punishment to the alpha now".

"Yes your majesty".

My eyes blazed with fury as I gazed at Alpha John.

Before the fight i had asked my spies to get information about the girl the alpha was planning on taking as his mate and then after the fight was over the spy sent me a mind link and told me he had the information but since I couldn't meet him right away I asked him to tell me through the mind link and while I was listening everything pointed toward Astrid as the girl the alpha had eyes on and he also found out about how she was maltreated by most of the pack members. My anger and protective instinct were triggered and I took swift action to protect Astrid and punish those responsible.

When I learned about Astrid's mistreatment and Alpha John's plans to make her one of his mistresses, my eyes blazed with intense anger. My protective instincts as a Lycan king and Astrid's mate kicked in, and I felt an overwhelming urge to shield her from harm.

My voice was low and menacing as I confronted Alpha John. "How dare you treat Astrid with such disrespect and cruelty?" I growled. "You will pay for your actions."

It took everything in me not to snap his neck and tear him apart, so I took swift action to punish those responsible for Astrid's mistreatment. I stripped Alpha John of his title and banished him from the pack. Any pack members who had participated in or condoned the abuse faced consequences for their actions.

Alpha John's face paled, and he took a step back. "No, please... have mercy."

My voice was cold and unforgiving. "You have shown no mercy to others. Why should I show any to you?"

The pack members watched in silence, some nodding in agreement with the sentence. Astrid stood beside me, her eyes fixed on Alpha John with a mix of anger and disgust.

As Alpha John was led away, the pack began to murmur among themselves. Some expressed relief that the traitorous alpha was gone, while others whispered about the potential consequences of my actions. My advisor approached me, concern etched on his face. "My king, are you sure exile is enough? Alpha John's betrayal was severe."

My expression was resolute. "Exile is a fitting punishment. But I will not tolerate any further disloyalty. The pack will be watched closely, and any signs of treachery will be dealt with swiftly."

Astrid's hand slipped into Caspian, offering support. Together, they would face the challenges ahead, united in the determination to protect their pack and their bond.

As Astrid and Caspian stood together, the pack's reactions were mixed. Some members looked at Astrid with curiosity, while others gazed at her with hostility.

"How could the Lycan king mate with a human?" one pack member whispered.

"She's not even a worthy warrior," another sneered.

Astrid's eyes dropped, but Caspian's arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her close.

"She's my mate," he declared. "You will respect her as you respect me."

The pack members exchanged uneasy glances, but their expressions softened slightly. Caspian's dominance was undeniable, and they knew better than to cross him.

Caspian turned his attention to Astrid, his expression softening as he saw the pain and fear in her eyes. He wrapped his arms around her, holding her close as he whispered words of comfort. "You're safe now, Astrid. I'll never let anyone harm you again."

Caspian reassured Astrid that she was loved and valued, not just as his mate but as an individual. He made it clear that he would do everything in his power to protect her and ensure her happiness.

Caspian was determined to make things right for Astrid. He vowed to be more vigilant and proactive in protecting her, and he worked to rebuild her trust in him and the pack.

Astrid felt a mix of emotions as she responded to Caspian's actions. She was grateful for his protection and care, and she began to feel seen and heard. She realized that Caspian was willing to go to great lengths to ensure her safety and happiness, and her feelings for him deepened as a result, but the pack's judgmental eyes stung. She knew she had to prove herself, not just to the pack, but to herself.

Caspian's fingers intertwined with hers, offering comfort. "You don't need to prove anything to them," he whispered. "You're mine, and that's all that matters."

Astrid's heart swelled with love and gratitude. She knew she had found her true mate in Caspian, and together, they would face whatever challenges came their way.
