Chapter 41 - Volume 11: The Board Tilts. Chapter 1: The Birth of a God

Autor´s note:

Hey guys, sorry for the delay, but I really needed to take a break. Now that I'm on vacation from university and only working, I have more time to continue with this story, so rest assured that I will resume the Wednesday and Saturday updates as I have been doing until now.

The Fusion on the Night Deck

The ship moved in silence over the dark sea, as if sailing across an open wound in the night. The sky was overcast, moonless. Only the sound of waves crashing against the hull accompanied the rhythm of the journey.

Suki was on the upper deck, sitting near the railing, watching the horizon. The cool wind moved a few loose strands of her hair, still damp from the sea's dew. In the distance, the ship's lamps flickered, as if the vessel itself were holding its breath.

Ren Yin had come up just minutes ago. He stood at the bow, hands resting on the metal railing. His slender figure seemed fragile… but radiated an unnatural calm. The wind didn't move him. The night seemed to revolve around him.

Behind Suki, the deck door opened without a sound.

Ren Yang came out.

His white hair waved in the sea breeze. His steps were light, almost careless, but there was something in his gaze that cut through the air: the mischievous spark that characterized him… and a sharp coldness beneath that cheerful skin.

Suki felt a shiver run down her spine.

Not of fear.

Of anticipation.

Yang didn't look at her; he passed by her with a brief smile before heading toward Yin.

Yin didn't move, but his breathing changed.

A deep inhale.

A barely perceptible whisper.

As if he understood what was about to happen.

Suki stood up without realizing it, placing a hand on the railing to keep her balance. Her heart began to beat faster.

A few meters away, Mai, Keiko, and Suri had just stepped out into the lower passageway. They weren't on the deck, but a sliding window let in the glow of the outside light, and from there, they could see the silhouettes of the two Rens at the bow. They couldn't hear everything… but they felt the threat in the air.

Ty Lee, restless, opened the window just a little more, peeking out like a curious animal.

Azula was there too, but leaning against the doorframe, arms crossed, her expression serene. She knew what was coming.

And then it happened.

Ren Yang stopped in front of Ren Yin.

Their gazes met.

There were no words.

They didn't need them.

The air around them began to vibrate.

The entire deck seemed to tense.

A blink.

An exhale.

Absolute silence.

Yang extended his hand.

Yin did the same.

Their fingers never touched.

Because before they could, Ren Yang began to fade.

His solid form dissolved into a white glow, fragmenting into threads of light that bent in impossible patterns. It was like watching a body turn into luminous mist… but without losing its essence.

Suki brought a hand to her mouth.

Her chest trembled.

Mai took a step back into the passageway.

Keiko placed a hand on the wall to keep from falling.

Suri murmured a "What…?" unable to stop herself.

Ty Lee was breathless, paralyzed.

But Azula…

Azula smiled.

As if contemplating something beautiful.

As if she had expected it.

As if she had desired it.

The light that had been Yang began to circle Yin, wrapping him in a slow, soft, magnetic glow. A fusion without violence. Without impact.

As if it were the most natural thing in the world.

The energy entered Yin's body like a white current.

His back arched.

His shoulders trembled for a second.

And then… everything calmed down.

Ren Yin was left alone on the deck.

But it wasn't Yin.

It wasn't Yang.

It was both.

Complete.

Full.

Harmonized.

He opened his eyes.

And Suki felt the air catch in her throat.

His irises shone with a new, impossible intensity.

The air temperature rose a few degrees.

Even the wind seemed to avoid touching him.

Ren spoke in a deeper voice.

Not louder.

But fuller.

A voice that could belong to a leader… or a god.

—"Don't be alarmed."*

Mai frowned.

—"I'm sorry, but… this is alarming."*

Keiko gritted her teeth, trying to maintain her composure.

—"What exactly are you?"*

Suri, her face tense, added:

—"And what do you want from us?"*

Suki didn't speak.

She couldn't.

Her chest rose and fell forcefully.

She had seen both Rens separately…

But this was different.

This was… perfect.

Too perfect.

Ren walked toward them with a firm, balanced step.

And the deck seemed to tilt toward him.

—"I'm not seeking to subjugate you,"* he said. "If I had manipulated you… we wouldn't be having this conversation. You would believe you never distrusted me."*

Mai paled.

Ty Lee swallowed.

Keiko narrowed her eyes.

Suri took a deep breath, trembling slightly.

Ren stopped a meter from the passageway, near Suki.

And he looked at her.

It was a look that pierced through her.

That disarmed her heart.

That recognized her.

That affirmed her.

That invited her.

She felt her knees almost give way.

—"You don't have to fear me,"* Ren said softly. "But I won't pretend I'm… common."*

Azula stepped forward at that moment, passing Mai as if her presence could push back the group's unease.

—"He's not a monster,"* she said in a cold tone. "He's our ace up our sleeve. The only real advantage we have in this world. If you want to survive… if you want power… you should learn to accept that."*

Mai lowered her gaze.

Not convinced.

But insecure.

Keiko and Suri exchanged a silent glance.

Growing distrust.

Legitimate fear.

Ty Lee seemed confused… but fascinated.

Suki…

Suki kept looking at Ren.

It was him.

But more than him.

The same man who had risked his life for her people.

The same who had protected the children.

The same who had looked at her with sincerity…

Now amplified.

Elevated.

Complete.

Ren inclined his head slightly toward her.

And Suki felt that, even though he wasn't touching her…

her body reacted as if he were.

Azula broke the silence.

—"Everyone, to rest."* she ordered. "We have a lot to discuss tomorrow."*

No one argued.

They couldn't.

One by one, Mai, Ty Lee, Suri, and Keiko retreated down the passageway, glancing back at Ren every few steps.

Suki was the last to move.

But before she left… Ren spoke.

—"Suki."*

She stopped.

Ren wasn't smiling.

But his gaze was warm.

Too warm.

—"Don't be afraid of me."*

And she, with her heart pounding against her ribs, replied in a low voice.

—"I… I'm not."*

But both knew it wasn't entirely true.

And that made Ren smile just a little.

With a dangerous tenderness.

When Suki finally entered the passageway, Ren turned to Azula.

Azula watched him with a mix of pride, desire, and strategic satisfaction.

—"You're complete again,"* she whispered.

Ren looked at her with a deep calm.

—"And I'm just getting started."*
