'Tick…tock…tick…tock…tick…tock…' echoed the big old bronze clock that was just before Susana as she travailed in birth.
The room was old, dusty,creepy, crocky and full of cobwebs. She took in more air as the blood dropped quickly into the bowl under her. The bed on which she lay was already soaked with blood. More than half of the blood she had was gone and not even a hair of the child was out.
'Ha…ha…ha…' she panted, letting tears out.
In pain, she shut her eyes and mouth, pushing with all she had within her. After a while, the leg of the child was out. It made it harder and more complicated for Susana due to the fact that the leg coming out first was abnormal.
Again, she pushed- not relenting, putting in all effort she could put in. Blood gushed out as the child's head finally came out. Susana gave a faint smile as tears came down. She waited to hear the baby's cry but there was no cry. Painstakingly, she sat up and looked at the child who was covered in blood. There was no water around to be used to clean the blood. Susana used her tongue to lick the blood on her head away. After that, she touched the succulent hair of the child. She was a gorgon like her grandmother. Susana gave a faint smile as she sobbed. She wished she could be alive for her daughter.
'Turquoise…I will call you Turquoise…' Susana murmured. 'Let no one call you Gorgon…let them call you GORGUN…because like a gun, you will kill them…they are wicked…' she added and took her paper beside her.
'Her name is Turquoise. Treat her like a Queen' Susana wrote down with her blood, believing someone will come get her daughter.
Susana exhaled and slumped on the bloody bed after kissing the child's head. That was when Turquoise started crying.
