Chapter 6 - Chapter 5 ‎- The Encounter

*The Abyss Awakens*

‎Each one of us stopped what we were doing and stared at the shadow beneath us.

‎Sweat started dripping from my face due to tension. A loud shriek followed the silence. It was so loud that the submarine groaned.

‎Everyone knew what that meant, Quinn directed the others to retreat into the submarine.

‎"Hurry, captain move the damn submarine!" Quinn shouted in a hurried tone. "Where, Quinn ?" Emily asked, stating the obvious. We were in the middle of a crossroad; we could go up and end the expedition without gaining anything or we could head toward the abyss and risk our lives with the chance of gaining something.

‎There was silence and with it, the submarine moved in a hurry going deeper into the abyss towards the mysterious monster. The monsters never seemed to have given up because they still followed us.

We all stared at the screen and saw the monster that made the loud scream. The monster seemed like the other but larger, it had 10 tentacles instead of 8. Its aura was suffocating sending shivers down our spines.

‎'Dark body, 8 eyes, 10 tentacles. It can't be... It is the legendary Kraken."

Knowing the truth just made the matter worse because the Kraken is known throughout history for sinking ships and killing thousands of lives. Although, the history of the Kraken over the generations might have been twisted or manipulated but one thing was clear, if you see one, you are dead.

In some religions and cultures, it was synonymous with death, disaster or the symbol of the unknown in the sea. The origin of the Kraken is still a mystery but according to many folklore, it was said to have originated from Norway.

‎Many people, including me, believed they weren't real but ironically, I am facing the real deal.

‎What greeted us first were its massive red eyes. It felt like it was looking and judging our souls, it was eerie. Its eyes were like a source of light, illuminating the surrounding but in an unsettling way.

Every single one of us opened our mouths, we were dumbfounded. In all our heads there was only one thought: 'We are toast.'

‎The size of the Kraken was immeasurable, but if I were to put it in words, it was as tall as Mount Everest. Its tentacles were extremely long each filled up with 2000 suckers.

‎"We are all going to die," Mark fearfully said. What really rattled us to our core was the myriad of monsters that followed, they had the same appearance as the others.

‎"Everyone, it seems we have been ambushed, but not to serve as food for the big one but for the little ones."

Emily stated the glaring truth in a cool and calm demeanor that suggested she had been through a similar situation.

"But, with their number we can't even feed 5% of the monsters. Which means there is more to it?" Quinn's voice echoed in the submarine long enough for everyone to get the underlying meaning of the statement.

‎Wait any longer in this place or you will be dead. It is better to leave this hell, but how? The answer eventually came.

‎"Everyone, you might not have known it, but this is the Kraken..." I paused deliberately, scanning the surroundings. I noticed a few of their expressions changed. "...The Kraken was known as the tyrant of the sea who terrorized countless ships and killed countless lives, but no one is without a flaw. There are a lot of rumors pertaining to its flaw, but one stood out. Sailors of the olden days believed that the only way to defeat the Kraken was to trap it in a bright surrounding. Trapping it might not sound realistic, but if there is a way to brighten this place, it will give us a few seconds to escape."

‎"There...is, " A voice spoke. Everyone was shocked by who made the voice.

‎"There is," Mark said with confidence. "When I was checking through the manual, I noticed this submarine has two generators, right, captain?" His gaze shifted to the captain.

"Yeah, there are two generators," The captain flinched.

‎Several thoughts were running through my head, " When did he change character or is this his real self?" "When was he reading the manual?", but there was one thing I knew, "Never trust anyone in this place."

‎"...If we could find a way to use the second generator, the light created by it will distract those monsters and with the power it gives, we will speed right through here. But there is a disadvantage in using it," Mark explained, making sure to stress the last sentence.

‎"Which is?" Edward raised his brow as he asked.

‎Mark poised his lips as if he knew we would ask. "The sudden burst of energy will affect the engine reducing the power supply by half. That means the oxygen supply will reduce only lasting us 6 hours," His expression was dead serious.

‎I groaned as I heard that, 'Two choices again. Every single time, we have to pick between something.'

There was no time to answer before a tentacle lashed on the hull of the submarine holding us in place. The hull of the submarine began to groan and several warning notes appeared on the screen.

‎"Captain begin the sequence," Quinn commanded.
