Chapter 29 - Chapter 29—The Library

The words on the page felt alive, striking a deep sense of fear in Cole.

"Be careful, kid; don't ponder on words too much, that's dangerous," Cole suddenly heard inside his head.

That statement was the anchor that brought Cole back, his fear-stricken heart coming back and relaxing.

"That's really scary," Cole said while breathing heavily.

He stood up and sent a slight bow in the old man's direction.

"I really do need to be careful," he said to himself.

Beneath those large words was a smaller string of text.

"You are one that seeks knowledge, and in this book, knowledge you shall find," Cole read.

Like he was previously warned, Cole didn't attempt to dwell on those words, instead directly moving towards the next page.

Page by page Cole kept flipping, drowning himself in the sea of knowledge from the book in front of him.

It didn't notice the flow of time at all, only hyper-focused on the book.

After an unknown amount of time, Cole finally finished the book. He stared at its thick cover while pondering on what he just learned.

The core of every spiriter is their innate spirit. Based on that point, there was a classification system for spiriters based on their innate spirit.

The established fact that innate spirits could take on any form and grant a myriad of abilities caused a little bit of confusion and disarray.

This led to the formation of this arrangement by the spirited organization.

There are five major classes of innate spirits according to the organization: Beast, Armament, Elemental, Item, and lastly, the special class.

The Beast class of Innate Spirit, as the name implies, involves any Innate Spirit that takes on beast- or animal-related forms.

The Armament class of innate spirit is a class that involves all Innate spirits that look like weapons, e.g., swords, knives, hammers, etc.

An elemental class is a class of innate spirit that takes the form of a natural element and in turn gives elemental abilities. They could be said to be the most common class.

The items class is another unique class and it involves innate Spirits that take on the form of day-to-day items like keys, cards, etc.

The last special class is the rarest class, and they aren't bound by anything. It involves any innate spirit that doesn't align with any of the previous classes.

Though the special classes are quite unique, that doesn't mean they are the strongest class, as class doesn't determine strength.

Cole reckoned his innate spirit falls between the item and the special class because it seems to be a mix of the two attributes.

These classes of innate spirits then have their respective classes of spiriters. As Beast Spiriters, Armament Spiriters, Elemental Spiriters, Item Spiriters and Special Spiriters

While reading the book, Cold chanced upon a statement that brought up a previous curiosity of his.

"The Armament class of Innate spirits has the broadest and easiest access to techniques."

The word "technique" has been bugging Cole for a while, and seeing it here again reminded him.

"I should find out what techniques actually are," he said.

Before he could stand up, Cole felt something familiar again; it was coming from his eyes.

The familiar warm or even slightly hot feeling that he felt that evening during his fight with Moses. It was here again.

"What could have triggered this again?" Cole wondered.

He tried piecing the information he had together, thinking of anything common about those two events.

The first time, he was trying to analyze Moses' advanced combat stances, and the second time, he was analyzing what he just read in the book.

Then it clicked; he finally understood. At both times he was analyzing.

"Analysis triggers this feeling," Cole thought.

"What effects does it have then?" He questioned.

He wanted to activate the Eyes of Scrutiny and actually test his theory, but he feared any unusual reaction from the books surrounding him, so he decided to postpone that.

"I guess I will test it later," Cole decided.

Cole then stood up to return the book that was currently with him and look for one about techniques.

After returning the previous book, he began searching the library for something on techniques.

Cole got to a part of the second floor that appeared especially dark; the darkness didn't reduce its elegance, though—it only further increased it.

"Hey you, get away from here," Cole suddenly heard from somewhere in the dark section.

He looked around curiously, trying to get where the sound was actually coming from, but he couldn't pinpoint it.

"Leave, or you will regret it," he heard again, but this time the direction was clearer.

It was coming from a corner between two shelves.

Curiosity got the better of Cole, so he headed in that direction.

He was taken aback by who he actually met in the corner. It was the red-headed girl.

"It's you," the red-headed girl said.

The event in the Cultivation room left a deep impression of Cole on her.

"Quick, help me hide," she ordered.

Cole was taken aback by that statement as he looked around skeptically.

"Help you hide? Why would I do that?" Cole asked.

"Do you dare defy me?" The girl said proudly.

"And who are you?" Cole asked with a taunting smile.

"I am Linda Brussell, from the great Brussell family." The girl said confidently.

"Brussell family, never heard of it," Cole responded before turning around to leave.

The girl called Linda was planted in her position as she looked at Cole with a widened expression.

"Where do you come from? The sewers?" Linda asked.

Cole couldn't be bothered to reply as he continued to leave the location.

He was forced to stop, though, as he heard increasingly loud footsteps hurrying in their direction.

"Ohh shit, they found me," Linda cursed as she attempted to leave the surroundings.

It was too late, though; three students, all of them with signature red hair, arrived at the location.

"Young lady, you know you aren't supposed to disappear like that," one of them said with a sly smile.

"I am not coming with you; tell Gladen I am not interested," Linda screamed out.

One of the three students then noticed Cole standing not too far away.

"Hey you, what are you doing here? Leave." One of them ordered.

Cole wasn't really interested in any of their antiques, so he directly ignored their presence and continued his search.

"Are you deaf? I said leave," the student said with a higher voice.

Cole calculated the associated risk, so he decided there was no need for unnecessary conflict and decided to leave.

While he was leaving, one of the students suddenly displayed a sly smile on his face.

Boom!

He sent a fireball flying directly at Cole.

Cole suddenly felt a searing coming from behind him.

"Do we really have to do this?" Cole said with a slightly annoyed expression.
