Chapter 29 - Knowledge

Before Wucha finished struggling, the valley road had already come to an end.

Even though more than ten days had passed, the lingering **** stench had not completely dissipated.

Standing on the dark red ground, Ucha could not help recalling that unforgettable night.

The memory made him bend over unconsciously, and even his breathing slowed.

Today's valley entrance had completely changed. Not only had two tall iron-oak fences been added, but watchtowers had also been erected on the mound.

With such fortifications, Yingzui Island was now even harder to break through.

After confirming their identities, the soldiers on guard released Ucha and his group into the valley.

Once inside, Uncle and the others went to deliver the logs. The Wucha siblings remained standing there foolishly, feeling a little lost.

Until several loud shouts drew their attention.

"Look, there are Hewan soldiers training!" Sister Wuna cried out in surprise, then ran over.

Wucha had no choice but to follow. He saw a unit of about a hundred people running along the beach.

"One, one, one-two-one!"

Although they were only running, their synchronized steps, thunderous chants, and strict military bearing still revealed an awe-inspiring, inviolable aura.

Especially when he thought about how countless savage warriors had been mercilessly slaughtered by this small number of River Bend soldiers, Ucha felt a deep fear rising from the bottom of his heart.

But at the same time, a strange thought quietly sprouted within him—

If only I could be one of them…

Many savage girls had already gathered around the beach. Some had successfully found husbands and were proudly pointing them out to others, drawing envious remarks. Those who had not yet succeeded kept asking around, searching for opportunities of their own.

Una also leaned forward, beginning to gather information.

Soon, she locked onto her target—it was the short young man standing at the front, giving orders.

From her companions, she learned that although this young man named Gavin did not look impressive, he was the lord's steward.

Such a figure naturally had high standards. These days, countless savage girls who had thrown themselves at him had all failed.

Oona, relying on her beauty, decided to challenge him.

So when the training ended, she rushed out and went straight toward Gavin.

Wu Cha scratched his head on the spot. It would not be good to disturb his sister, so he could only silently wish her luck.

Finding a small market in the northwest corner of the valley, Ucha exchanged the dried meat he had brought for oats, bread, and a small amount of sweet biscuits.

Then, he did not know what to do next.

He wanted to return to Huya Village, but Wucha could not bear to part with his sister.

Yet if he were really asked to join the prisoner camp, Wucha was unwilling to accept that either.

As he wandered aimlessly, Wucha suddenly heard someone speaking:

"It is said that this long summer is coming to an end. What follows will be a cold winter and an endless night. The demons that have lain dormant for thousands of years will awaken in the darkness and bring destruction to this world!"

"Huh? Then what should we do?" someone asked.

"Do not be afraid. The gods have long arranged a hero to save the world. He will be born in the land of smoke and salt, wielding a burning sword, leading the people to defeat evil and usher in an unending long summer."

Hearing this, Ucha could not help but say, "You're wrong."

The man raised his head and glared at Wucha, but still asked patiently, "What's wrong?"

"I heard Wizard Saru say that the hero was born between ice and fire."

"Ice and fire?" The man scoffed. "Boy, tell me—how can a person be born between ice and fire?"

"Of course through heavy snow and flames." A look of reverence appeared on Ucha's face. "Wizard Saru also said that our Lord Caesar was born in a snowy winter, and there was a fire burning in the castle that day. Therefore, he is the hero born between ice and fire in the prophecy!"

Hearing the latter part, the man suddenly relaxed and said,

"Boy, perhaps the 'ice and fire' your wizard spoke of is the same as my 'smoke and salt.'"

"The same meaning?"

"That's right. Think about it carefully—where there is fire, there must be smoke, and snow is actually the salt of the sky."

Ucha habitually scratched the back of his head. "So you also think that Lord Caesar is the hero in the prophecy?"

"Of course!"

As soon as those words were spoken, the atmosphere instantly eased.

Ucha moved closer enthusiastically and began discussing the prophecy with the man.

The surrounding savages listened to their conversation with mixed expressions. Some showed reverence, while others secretly curled their lips… But no matter what they thought, no one dared to openly refute them. After all, they were all now subjects of Lord Caesar.

Moreover, the previous great victory had already deeply engraved Lord Caesar's prestige in the hearts of these savages.

Even if they did not truly believe that Lord Caesar was the hero of the prophecy, a seed had already been planted in their hearts.

Perhaps in the near future, as the legend of Lord Caesar continued to spread, that seed would take root and grow, eventually becoming an unshakable belief.

Wucha became more and more convinced of the wizard's prophecy, and only reluctantly ended the conversation when his sister came to find him.

"How did it go?" he asked.

"Not bad!" Wuna said, blushing with excitement. "He accepted the tiger-hide gloves I made."

"That's great! It won't be long before I can attend your wedding."

Wuna accepted her brother's congratulations with a smile, then suddenly remembered something and said,

"By the way, have you decided? Do you want to stay on Yingzui Island?"

"I…" Ucha hesitated. "I'll think about it again."

Una smiled and said, "I guessed you wouldn't be willing to join the prisoner camp. But what about the lord's guard? Would you like to join that?"

"What? Is Lord Caesar's guard recruiting?" Ucha asked in surprise.

"That's right. Gavin just told me that the guard will recruit one hundred new soldiers. The recruitment order will be posted tomorrow, so remember to sign up when the time comes."

"Okay!" Wu Cha nodded repeatedly, then grew a little worried. "But if they're only recruiting a hundred people, I'm afraid I might not be chosen."

Ucha was certain that once the order was posted, savage warriors would definitely rush to sign up.

"I believe you can do it!" Wuna rolled her eyes. "If it really doesn't work, I can ask Gavin for help."

"Yes, yes, yes, yes!" At that moment, Ucha wished his elder sister would marry Gavin immediately.

After scratching his ears and cheeks for a while, Wucha suddenly whispered,

"Sister, why don't you go find Lord Gavin tonight…"

Una glared at her younger brother, but then suddenly tilted her head in thought, as if seriously considering the feasibility of the idea.

Gavin had no idea he had been targeted by a savage girl. He was looking for Samwell and said with a miserable expression,

"My lord, you really need to take control of those savages! I went to count this morning and found nearly two hundred more people in the prisoner camp! This is too much!"

Samwell chuckled. "Isn't it a good thing to have more people? It will speed up the construction of our territory."

"But it's also a huge drain! Our food reserves can last at most another half month!"

"So soon?" Samwell's expression also turned serious. After pondering for a moment, he said, "I understand. I'll handle this matter."

Gavin felt slightly relieved.

In his view, although the lord spent money like water, the speed at which he earned it was astonishing.

He just didn't know how the lord managed to get so much money.
