Earl Selwyn gazed at his son. He too had heard the earth-shattering roar of "Godzilla the Dragon Hunter" (Ghidorah is a three-headed dragon) that afternoon!
The 500-strong castle guard had also been notified long ago and placed the East Castle under martial law!
Deep down, he had a lingering worry, fearing that his son might not be able to control the three-headed monster.
According to legend, dragons were already terrifying beasts capable of burning cities and destroying fortresses. How magnificent must Godzilla be, the one who hunts dragons?
He had once received an answer from his son: "The true Dragon Hunter, Godzilla, possesses the power of the sun!"
The sun!Selwyn believed his son wouldn't lie to him, because Garredon had actually fulfilled all the promises that seemed so outrageous to him.
But that's the sun!
Maester Ryed was also going crazy, cursing with rage clouding his mind, "Damn bastard! How can you compare yourself to Robert Baratheon, King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm!"
"Oh, you're right!"
Garredon stopped laughing and nodded in agreement.
Uh, you actually agree with that!
Lord Selwyn and Karen were both stunned, a little unable to keep up with Garredon's train of thought.Even Bachelor Reid was startled, instantly covering his head with both hands, fearing that Caledon would abandon all sense of honor and attack this lonely old man.
"I am Caledon, Morninglight Reborn! I have three dragon-slaying Titan Kings, including Godzilla! I am the most powerful Shifter! Comparing me to that mortal king Robert is beneath me!"
Under the bewildered and suspicious gazes of the three, Caledon puffed out his chest and struck a pose, acting very serious!
"At least Caledon Morninglight was known as the most perfect knight, he won the love of the Maiden (one of the aspects of the Seven Gods)! The Maiden gave him; the magic sword Lady Justice! To represent her love for him!""The Lady of Justice of the Morning Light has never been used on mortals, because he feels it's too unfair to them. I think I'll learn this spirit from my ancestors, is that okay?"
Earl Selwyn and Karen were completely stunned, looking at Galleon with unfamiliar faces, as if they had just met him.
After a while, Selwyn awkwardly praised, "Absolutely no problem!"
"Very reasonable! Your Excellency is too humble!"
Karen immediately followed up, her face full of flattering smiles, while silently complaining in her heart, "The Morning Light is almost being ruined by His Excellency!"
"Pfft!""Reed the Bachelor has completely lost it, spewing a mouthful of scarlet blood all over the hall.
"Hey! How could his mentality collapse so easily!" Instead of sympathy, Garredon gloated; "If the Long Night descends in a few years, and you put on the black and go to the Wall to see the Others, wouldn't you just jump off the Wall!"
"Playing possum, huh? Get up now!"
He walked up to the scholar who was pretending to be unconscious and, with a wicked grin, pinched his nose.
With the AI, based on the other party's brainwaves and heart rate activity, not only can it detect lies, but it can also determine their state.
Pretending to be unconscious in front of him is clearly a useless effort."Get up, I still have a question to ask.
Earl Selwyn and Karen turned their heads, unable to bear watching Garredon ravage the unconscious scholar.
Scholar Reed held his breath, inwardly cursing the damned kid for being so ruthless, leaving no way for anyone to live.
But are the Others he's talking about real?
It must be fake!
If it's real, this kid is underestimating me! How could I jump off the Wall!
That's even stupider than dying stupidly!
I'd definitely have someone burn me to death! Seven Gods above, a scholar's corpse must not be desecrated!
Ugh! No, I'm really going to die! I don't want to die~!"Cough cough! Let... let go!! Ugh, huff~!"
He couldn't keep up the act any longer.
He shoved Galleton away, greedily gulping down air as if trying to inhale his fill in one breath.
"What else do you want to ask?"
Galleton asked with a certain tone, "Hmm, you are the late Earl Ismon's bastard son, King Robert's maternal uncle; Lien Storm, aren't you?"
"Impossible! Impossible! How could you possibly know my identity!"
The scholar was truly terrified, pushing against the floor incessantly, his fingernails bleeding, his body pressed tightly against the wall, still trying to crawl backwards!
"Heh heh!""That's all the Citadel's tricks amount to!"
Galadon scoffed. "Sending maesters of Lannister bastard birth to the North and Dorne, and sending bastards from the North, the Vale, and the Riverlands to the Crownlands and the Reach, to ensure your loyalty to the Citadel."
"Tarth is lucky to have gotten such a great figure as you!"
Kellen pondered for a moment, then exclaimed in amazement, "The Citadel really has some good tricks up its sleeve!"
Lord Selwyn looked utterly bewildered; the things he had seen in the past two days had truly refreshed his worldview of the past fifty years.
Maester Reed looked bitter.Anyone knows that oaths alone can never sever the ties of blood!
The Conclave of the Citadel knows better than anyone that we bastards are the best pawns for the great houses to infiltrate the Citadel!
The Conclave is the governing body of the Citadel, managing all maesters. All Conclave meetings are confidential and held exclusively within the Citadel, isolated from the outside world.
Seeing him speak his mind, Garedon suddenly asked, "Are you loyal to your family? Or loyal to the Citadel?"
The maester paused, still keeping his head down in silence.
"Alas!""Galadon squatted down, snapped his fingers, and sighed, "Don't you understand? You have no secrets from me."
"It's obvious. If Robert knew you existed, he would have contacted you in secret long ago!"
"Yet, it's the Citadel that has been trying to contact you. Haven't you wondered why, even though you've had the glass candle for a month, none of the Citadel's warlocks, mages, or shadowbinders have contacted you!"
(A glass candle is a magical artifact, often used to measure a person's magical talent and to cast spells to contact other glass candles.)
"The glass candle that the Braavosi merchant was supposed to give you was switched out by us long ago!"While the Citadel has a "real world" ideal, hoping to build a world without magic and dragons, those maesters have never stopped researching magic and other supernatural powers.
Consider this rule: on the eve of an acolyte's swearing-in as a maester, the acolytes must keep vigil in a room containing black glass candles.
Lanterns and other light sources are not allowed in the room!
Unless the acolyte can light the candles, he will spend the long night in darkness before serving.
Maester Reed was shocked for half a second, then quickly deflated, he had become immune to Garedon's words."It really is true that academia knows no borders!"
"Who would have thought that the maesters of the Citadel in Westeros and the scholars of Braavos have always been connected!"
Garretton was curious, what common topics could the scholars of Braavos, who were responsible for electing the Sealord, have with the maesters who only provided counsel to lords?
The maester remained silent with his head lowered, looking like a man on his deathbed, daring anyone to do anything about it. Garretton's patience with the maester was wearing thin. "One last question, does House Estermont know of your existence?"
Estermont is also an island affiliated with Westeros, not far south of Tarth, separated from the Stormlands by a strait.Since the rise of House Tarth, House Estermont has been sending letters, subtly and overtly hinting at their desire to submit to House Tarth!
If House Estermont were to genuinely submit, then their rebellion as kin would be a significant blow to House Baratheon!
Garridon, however, wants to wait for the Baratheons to mess up on their own and also doesn't think much of the reef, which is less than a tenth the size of Tarth, so he has been ignoring them.
"The Others really exist?"
Maester Reed, having given up, is instead concerned about the information Garridon just revealed.
"Do I need to lie to you! Answer my question and save me some time."Galton's affirmation terrified both Earl Selwyn and Karen.
The Others! The Others of legend, who bring the long night and death!
"Earl Elton Estermont knows of my existence!" Maester Reed met Galton's sapphire eyes and smiled wryly; "I feel you're more terrifying than the Others!"
Damn it! The Estermont family is going to be an undercover agent! A traitor on our side!
"That's saying something!" Galton felt a little indignant, but smiled lightly on his face: "Couldn't you learn from Ser Aelion how to flatter me properly!"A faint smile touched Lord Selwyn's lips, a touch of sorrow for his friend, dragged out and flogged even in death!
"Alright, Karen, Maester Reed has betrayed Tarth, he's officially arrested and sent to the paving crew for hard labor!"
Garedon stood up, casually clapping his hands, deciding Maester Reed's fate.
His own commander's order snapped Karen out of the initial shock and fear of the Others' existence.
"After that, send the Maester to the Wall, to keep watch for the people of the Seven Kingdoms! From now on, you officially assume the Maester's duties, appointed Chief Diplomat! On par with the three ministers of the City Hall!"
