"A maid? Maybe I could have Saber and Black Saber wear maid outfits together, like a pair of maid sisters..." Akatsuki lay in Justeaze's arms, feeling the softness of the 'brain cushion' waves, her gaze glancing towards Illya's house in the distance. "Tonight's class card is Assassin, right?"
Thinking this, Akatsuki took out her phone and called Tohsaka Rin.
"Moshi moshi, Akatsuki? Huh? The class card collection is suspended tonight? Why? You jerk! What do you mean 'don't worry about it'! Collecting class cards is supposed to be mine and Luvia's job! Moshi moshi?"
Looking at the phone emitting a busy tone, Tohsaka Rin felt a surge of blood rush to her head. "Aaaah! I'm so mad! That girl actually dared to hang up on me!"
Hunter of True Ancestors, nightmare of Vampires—that was what people called him in the past world, and it was indeed the truth.
Assassin looked up at the false moon in the Mirror World's sky. His thoughts couldn't help but drift back to a small town in France decades ago; that was where the point of divergence began.
On the girl's sixteenth birthday, a day that should have been happy for everyone became the start of all the anomalies. Even today, Assassin still remembered the scent of bread from the girl's family bakery and her childhood dream of becoming a professional pastry chef.
That pure, innocent dream had been frozen forever on that day.
"Elesia..."
He was nothing more than a ghost who had luckily survived that slaughter. His original self might have remained on that day along with the girl named Elesia, and the only one who survived was a True Ancestor killer named Assassin.
If possible, he didn't want anything to do with the higher-ups of the Church or the True Ancestor princess, Arcueid, but things had already happened.
Assassin began researching various drugs starting from the lowest-level Dead Apostles. Ordinary medicine naturally had little effect on Dead Apostles, but low-level Dead Apostles were just moving corpses; even the drugs he concocted could return them to death.
However, his drugs proved powerless against mid-to-low-tier Dead Apostles. After all, Dead Apostles at that stage were existences that had stepped into the realm of Mystery, possessing a certain degree of resistance to science, its opposite.
Just as Assassin was in despair, he heard a certain voice. Perhaps that was the final mercy God granted him, he thought.
Soon, the first generation of the Poison of the True Ancestors was developed. Calling it the Poison of the True Ancestors might have been an exaggeration, as it could only kill mid-tier Dead Apostles at most; it was still a long, long way from being able to kill a True Ancestor.
"Did I interrupt your reminiscing?"
Akatsuki stepped out from the shadows, her hands holding the two Mystic Codes, ruby and sapphire. The two sisters, who had just been borrowed from Illya and Miyu, seemed to highly resent being used by Akatsuki, not saying a single word the entire way.
"No, you've come at just the right time."
A pitch-black greatsword was held horizontally in front of Assassin. An aura of death rushed toward her, and the air was filled with a toxic gas specifically designed to target True Ancestors, known as the Poison of the True Ancestors.
"This is the final masterpiece to poison the True Ancestor princess Arcueid and completely end the existence of True Ancestors: the Poison of the True Ancestors."
"Is that so?"
Akatsuki was very calm. She no longer felt the surprise she had when she first met this Assassin. Her crimson pupils held no trace of emotion now, merely looking at Assassin indifferently.
"Answer me, True Ancestor of the terminal world: why exactly were you born, and why did you abandon the world of your birth?"
The aura of death permeated the entire Mirror World. Akatsuki, who had once reached the Root, already knew the true identity of the Assassin before her—the former True Ancestor killer who had terminated all True Ancestors on the surface, allowing humanity to develop without restraint, ultimately leading to the arrival of the Land of Steel.
"Boring. Instead of pursuing such meaningless things, why don't you think about how to atone for everything you've done? After all, whether it's the destruction of the world or the destruction of humanity, you were directly involved." Saying this, Akatsuki suddenly laughed, looking at Assassin with a hint of mockery. "Besides, aren't you a Dead Apostle yourself?"
"Shut up!"
Akatsuki's words seemed to touch upon Assassin's taboo. His voice was loud, and his tone was extremely fierce. "Human life has limits! I absolutely cannot die due to lifespan before I have killed every last True Ancestor!"
The pitch-black greatsword slashed toward Akatsuki's head. However, this seemingly fierce strike was easily parried by Akatsuki lifting ruby.
"Aaaaaah! You idiot! In this situation, you're usually supposed to dodge! Have some more consideration for my feelings!!!"
ruby's scream echoed through the night sky. However, Akatsuki gave Assassin no chance to counterattack; the moment she blocked Assassin's strike, she swung sapphire at Assassin's head.
Assassin dodged to the side and took the opportunity to kick toward Akatsuki. Akatsuki leaped backward and landed steadily. By now, the Poison of the True Ancestors in the air had grown even thicker, yet the mocking smile remained on Akatsuki's face.
"What do you know! The True Ancestors ruined everything for me—my friends, my future! How could I possibly let them go just because of the limitations of my lifespan!"
The pitch-black greatsword swung once more, the wind of the blade whistling. Akatsuki's eyes narrowed; she still used ruby to block, and amidst ruby's screams, Akatsuki swung sapphire toward Assassin's head.
"Stop! Stop!"
After a few exchanges, ruby and sapphire hurriedly broke free from Akatsuki's palms, protesting against her using them as clubs.
"Don't you call yourself 'Magic Authentic' (Magic True Ancestor)? Aren't you a Magical Girl?! Why are you using such a violent method?!"
"Lord Akatsuki, I believe your use of us is quite unreasonable!"
ruby and sapphire floated in the air, protesting to Akatsuki. "Besides, didn't you bring us here to transform? Why are you treating us like clubs!"
"Because they're easy to use. Besides, I'm not a child anymore. To be honest, the innocent setting of a Magical Girl no longer suits me. And I don't want to be a 'Magical Auntie' like Rin, so isn't it perfectly reasonable to swing you around like clubs?"
