Chapter 37 - Chapter 37: King of Sin VS King of Heroes

"What's wrong? Can you no longer move?"

Archer looked expressionlessly at Gilgamesh, who was standing on a streetlight; beside him, Rider had already been pinned to the ground by the noble swords and spears that had shot out from the Gate of Babylon.

"Is that so? It seems I have no choice but to show some real skill ahead of schedule."

"Oh? Finally planning to go all out? Very well, I have grown tired of this game of cat and mouse."

Archer's gaze was solemn as he glared at Gilgamesh on the streetlight, chanting, "I am the bone of my..."

Just as the magical energy around Archer began to diffuse outward and Gilgamesh's expression turned serious, an abrupt voice rang out.

"That won't do, Gilgamesh. You're old enough that you should have learned to follow the rules by now."

Akatsuki's somewhat flippant voice sounded. She leaned against a nearby wall, looking at Gilgamesh and Archer with a flat expression that seemed out of place in the tense atmosphere.

"Hmph, I am the rules! As for you, have you still not returned to your coffin?"

"How rude. I don't have a coffin!"

Stepping between Gilgamesh and Archer, Akatsuki looked up at Gilgamesh on the streetlight and smiled slightly. "king of heroes, don't you know the unwritten rule that the 'War' in the Holy Grail War can only begin at night?"

"mongrel, I said it: I am the rules!"

The Gate of Babylon aimed at Akatsuki, with countless noble swords and spears ready to fire.

"Honestly, calling everyone 'mongrel' all day... You're a demigod yourself, yet you call others mongrels. Didn't anyone tell you it's rude to project your own flaws onto others?"

"mongrel, disrespecting the King is a capital offense. Do you wish to die?"

A hint of anger appeared on Gilgamesh's face. No one had dared to speak to him like that until now, let alone a newborn True Ancestor fledgling!

"Heh, fine then. Let's see what you've got."

Casting off her coat, Akatsuki stretched her wrists. "The True Ancestors of this world cannot use magecraft. Even I can only use some simple spells."

"But that's enough. Of course, so you don't feel like I'm bullying you, I won't use any True Ancestor abilities other than their physical attributes—including the True Ancestor 'Authorities'."

At those words, Gilgamesh's face darkened completely, while Archer and Rider also looked shocked.

"Akatsuki, this Servant..."

"Archer." Akatsuki interrupted him. "While bathing in the dark shadow, I discovered a new ability—one I should have been able to use back when I was human, but was limited by that world and couldn't fully unleash its true power!"

An aura filled with curses and sin instantly flooded Akatsuki's soul. For a moment, every Servant present seemed to hear the wailing and despair of the undead.

"Aaaaah! What is this?! Hey! My Servant, hurry up and kill them all!"

Shinji Matou's panicked voice came from beneath the streetlight. As an ordinary person, Shinji began to experience all sorts of terrifying hallucinations after coming into contact with the aura of sin radiating from the depths of Akatsuki's soul.

In his vision, he—who had previously held the upper hand—was now surrounded by a hundred demons. Rot and maggots filled the entire world, and bizarre ghosts clung to him at every moment.

"If you are the king of heroes, then I am the King of Sin!"

Endless sin transformed into a pitch-black longsword. The moment Akatsuki gripped the hilt, that sin seemed like a beast scenting blood, frantically gnawing at her body and surging up her arm. It was only forced to stop after her entire arm had been dyed by the sin.

"Now, let me show you the terror of humanity!"

The pitch-black longsword seemed capable of swallowing even light, but Gilgamesh didn't take it to heart. After all, his treasury contained every treasure imaginable; he naturally couldn't muster interest in this blackened toy, especially a weapon whose blade radiated endless curses.

"Manifesting your own sin... What an ugly thing."

A noble sword shot out from the Gate of Babylon, but just as it was about to pierce Akatsuki's skull, she swung her sword-hand up and actually sliced the noble sword in two.

"I told you, humans are terrifying. To this day, they have created miracle after miracle, while also committing one unforgivable sin after another. king of heroes, can your will truly withstand the despair and sighs of the entirety of human history?"

Death and despair, sin and curses, madness and loss of control were spreading with Akatsuki as the center. All the negative things of the mortal world seemed to transform into a hideous serpent before Gilgamesh, intent on devouring him whole.

"Quite the big words."

Their cold gazes met. A strangely shaped key appeared within the Gate of Babylon. Gilgamesh grabbed it and inserted it into the void. "You've slept for ten years; it's time to come out and stretch. Ea!"

An aura of destruction filled the scene, clashing with the aura radiating from Akatsuki and forming a massive shockwave that spread in all directions.

"Aaaaah!!!"

Shinji Matou wailed as he clung desperately to the streetlight beneath Gilgamesh's feet, while Archer and Rider immediately distanced themselves from Akatsuki and Gilgamesh. A battle of this level was no longer something they could interfere with.

"mongrel who calls yourself a king, though I know not what you have experienced, your death has already been decided by me!"

"Heh."

Akatsuki sneered. Many had said such things to her before, yet now their graves had vanished into the torrent of time. Although they weren't as powerful as Heroic Spirits of Gilgamesh's caliber, as humans, they were still extremely troublesome opponents for an average Servant.

Both sides were at each other's throats. The Ea in Gilgamesh's hand seemed to sense Akatsuki's terrifying aura; facing a powerful foe, it struggled to convey its battle intent to its master.

Boom!

The aura carrying endless sin and despair retracted instantly, then was continuously compressed by a terrifying force. The sin wrapped around Akatsuki's arm was forced back into the blade.

"Ikki Shura!"

"Compressing the power within your body to the limit through sheer control? An interesting technique! However..."

Tightening his grip on his sword, a smile tugged at the corner of Gilgamesh's mouth. "It's not enough!"

"I shall offer this one strike as the ceremony of separation! I speak of the beginning. Heaven and Earth are divided, and nothingness celebrates the creation. My Sword of Rupture is that which rends the world! The mortar of the stars, the hell of the heavens is the end of the eve of creation. Now, slumber in death! Enuma Elish!"
