Chapter 8 - Wedding Functions BeginPart 2

As the engagement celebration continued, the Singh estate transformed into a sea of lights, music, and laughter. Thousands of decorative lamps illuminated the gardens while elegant floral arrangements covered every pathway leading toward the main event area. Guests from influential business families, politicians, celebrities, and close family friends filled the venue. Expensive jewelry sparkled beneath the lights, luxury vehicles continued arriving one after another, and photographers moved constantly through the crowd, capturing every moment. To an outsider, everything appeared perfect. It looked like the kind of celebration people dreamed about. Yet beneath the surface, invisible currents were already beginning to move.

Kavya barely had time to notice any of it.

The success of the evening depended heavily on the catering team, and despite having supervisors managing different sections, she refused to leave anything entirely in someone else's hands. She moved continuously between food stations, storage areas, service counters, and preparation zones, checking quality, solving problems, and ensuring that every dish leaving the kitchen met her standards.

Several guests had already praised the food.

Others had requested her contact information.

One elderly businessman had spent nearly ten minutes discussing recipes with her.

Normally such compliments would have made her happy.

Tonight she barely noticed them.

There was too much work.

Too much responsibility.

And somewhere in the back of her mind remained the image of Baba waiting at home.

Every successful event brought her closer to saving him.

That thought alone kept her moving.

Meanwhile, the younger members of the Singh family were gathered near one of the garden seating areas.

Meera sat between Reyansh and Karan while Kabir and Vihaan occupied nearby chairs.

To an observer, the scene looked perfectly ordinary.

It wasn't.

Not even close.

Because while Meera's attention frequently drifted toward Karan, Reyansh's attention remained fixed entirely on Meera.

The irony would have been amusing if it weren't so painful.

Reyansh had known Meera for years.

Their families were close.

They had grown up together.

He knew her favorite color.

Her favorite dessert.

The songs she listened to when she was upset.

The movies she pretended not to like but secretly watched repeatedly.

He knew all of it.

Yet he had never gathered the courage to tell her how he felt.

At first he had convinced himself there was plenty of time.

Then months became years.

Years became silence.

And now Karan Khanna had entered the picture.

Watching Meera smile at another man was becoming increasingly difficult.

Unfortunately, nobody seemed to notice.

Except Kabir.

And Kabir noticed everything.

"You're staring again."

Reyansh immediately looked away.

"I'm not."

"You are."

"I'm not."

"You absolutely are."

Vihaan glanced between them.

Then sighed.

"Please tell me we're not having this conversation again."

Kabir grinned.

"We are."

Reyansh groaned.

Life would have been easier if Kabir were less observant.

Unfortunately, that seemed impossible.

Across the venue, Aarav was reviewing event operations when one of the managers approached him.

"The catering feedback is excellent."

Aarav nodded.

"Good."

"Guests seem very impressed."

His gaze briefly shifted toward one of the service areas where Kavya was coordinating staff.

Even from a distance, she appeared completely focused.

No distractions.

No unnecessary conversations.

Just work.

He appreciated people like that.

People who took responsibility seriously.

Especially because such people were becoming increasingly rare.

Before he could think further, his phone vibrated.

A security update.

The message came from Arjun.

Immediately, Aarav's expression changed.

Arjun never contacted him unnecessarily.

If he sent a message during an event, there was usually a reason.

Excusing himself from the conversation, Aarav moved toward a quieter area and opened the report.

His eyes narrowed.

Something wasn't right.

---

Elsewhere on the property, Arjun stood in front of a bank of surveillance screens.

His instincts had been bothering him for days.

Now he finally understood why.

One of the security cameras had captured something unusual.

A man who appeared on multiple recordings despite not being on any guest list.

Normally that wouldn't be enough to trigger concern.

Large events often involved confusion.

But Arjun trusted patterns.

And this pattern felt wrong.

Very wrong.

The same individual had been observed near restricted areas three separate times.

Each appearance lasted only a few minutes.

Each appearance seemed deliberate.

Most importantly, every appearance ended before security could approach him.

Someone was testing the perimeter.

The realization immediately put him on alert.

Years of experience told him this wasn't random.

Unfortunately, he still lacked enough information to act openly.

Which meant one thing.

Observation.

For now.

But he had already increased security without informing the guests.

Quietly.

Carefully.

Without causing panic.

Because if there truly was a threat, revealing concern too early could make things worse.

---

Back near the main venue, Kavya was reviewing dessert preparations when one of the younger workers rushed toward her.

"Didi, we have a problem."

Her stomach immediately tightened.

Problems were never good news during large events.

"What happened?"

"The serving trays for the VIP section haven't arrived."

"What?"

The worker looked close to panic.

"They were supposed to come fifteen minutes ago."

Kavya immediately started moving.

Within seconds she was mentally calculating alternatives.

Replacement equipment.

Backup service plans.

Temporary arrangements.

The situation wasn't catastrophic.

Yet.

But delays had a habit of creating larger problems.

As she hurried across one of the pathways connecting different sections of the venue, she barely noticed the crowd ahead.

People were moving in multiple directions.

Servers carried equipment.

Guests wandered between attractions.

Children ran through open spaces.

Everything happened quickly.

Too quickly.

One moment she was walking.

The next she collided with someone.

Hard.

The impact nearly knocked her off balance.

Before she could fall, a strong hand caught her arm.

The world seemed to pause.

For a second neither moved.

Then she looked up.

Aarav.

Of course.

Because apparently fate had developed a habit of placing him in her path.

"You should watch where you're going."

His voice wasn't angry.

Merely practical.

Embarrassment flooded her face.

"I was distracted."

"So I noticed."

Despite the situation, a small smile appeared at the corner of his mouth.

It disappeared almost immediately.

Yet she saw it.

And somehow that made her even more aware of his presence.

Around them, the event continued uninterrupted.

Music played.

Guests laughed.

Nobody paid attention.

But for a brief moment, everything else seemed distant.

Then reality returned.

Work.

Responsibilities.

Problems waiting to be solved.

Kavya stepped back quickly.

"Sorry."

"There is nothing to apologize for."

The response surprised her.

Before she could reply, another staff member approached urgently with information about the missing trays.

The moment was over.

Just like that.

Yet as she hurried away, she couldn't ignore the strange feeling lingering in her chest.

And she wasn't the only one.

Aarav watched her disappear into the crowd before turning back toward business matters.

Something about her stood out.

He couldn't quite explain why.

Perhaps because she reminded him of a version of himself he had almost forgotten.

Someone carrying too much responsibility.

Someone who never stopped moving.

Someone who placed everyone else's needs before their own.

The thought unsettled him more than he cared to admit.

---

Later that night, as the engagement celebration approached its conclusion, the first serious incident finally occurred.

It happened so quickly that most guests never realized anything was wrong.

A decorative lighting structure near one section of the garden suddenly collapsed.

People screamed.

Several guests stumbled backward.

Servers dropped trays.

For a brief moment, chaos erupted.

Security immediately moved into action.

Arjun arrived within seconds.

His eyes scanned the scene rapidly.

The collapse looked accidental.

At least that's what most people would assume.

He wasn't convinced.

Because just before the structure fell, one of his officers had reported suspicious activity nearby.

The timing was too perfect.

Far too perfect.

Fortunately, nobody was seriously injured.

The situation was contained quickly.

Guests were reassured.

The celebration resumed.

Most people forgot about it within minutes.

Arjun didn't.

Neither did Aarav.

Because both men understood something important.

This wasn't over.

Not even close.

The threat Arjun had sensed was real.

And tonight had only been the beginning.

Unfortunately, none of them knew how dangerous things were about to become.

Not Aarav.

Not Arjun.

Not the Singh family.

And certainly not Kavya Sharma.

The wedding celebrations had only just begun.

Yet fate had already started tightening the threads connecting all their lives.

And very soon, there would be no turning back.
