Chapter 26 - CP:26 Pregnancy Caretaking???

This is how their days went after their pregnancy news:

DAY ONE OF PREGNANCY (PRINCESS TREATMENT):

It started small.

Naga insisting on hand-feeding Alex his breakfast ("Your hands might be tired from sleeping").

Leo fluffing the furs every thirty minutes ("They might have gotten lumpy").

Both of them hovering anxiously whenever Alex stood up ("Are you dizzy? Nauseous? Do you need support?").

By noon, Alex was ready to scream.

"I'm going for a walk," he announced, standing up from the nest.

"I'll accompany you," Naga said immediately, already coiling to follow.

"Me too," Leo added, jumping to his feet.

"I meant alone."

"Absolutely not," both said in unison.

"What if you get dizzy and fall?" Naga demanded.

"What if you encounter a predator?" Leo added.

"We're in YOUR TERRITORY! What predator is going to attack me here?!"

"Better safe than sorry," they said together.

So Alex's "solo walk" became a procession: Alex in the middle, Naga on one side, Leo on the other, both of them watching his every step like he might spontaneously combust.

"This is ridiculous," Alex muttered.

"This is necessary," Naga corrected.

They made it approximately twenty feet from the cave before Alex's stomach rolled and he had to lurch toward a bush to be sick again.

Both mates were there instantly—Leo supporting his back, Naga summoning cool water from nowhere, both murmuring soothing nonsense while Alex emptied his stomach for the third time that day.

"I hate this," Alex gasped when the nausea finally passed.

"I know," Leo said gently, helping him rinse his mouth. "But it will pass. Snakes babies come out within three months, after all. "

"How do you know that?"

"I... may have spent the entire morning reading every scroll in Naga's collection about pregnancy and child-rearing while you were sleeping."

Alex stared at him. "You did?"

Leo's ears flicked back, almost shy. "I want to be prepared. To help properly. Even if they're not biologically mine, I'm going to be their father too. I need to know how to care for you. For all of you."

Alex felt tears prick at his eyes. Damn pregnancy hormones. "Leo..."

"Don't cry," Leo said quickly, looking panicked. "Did I say something wrong? I'm sorry, I didn't mean—"

"They're happy tears, you giant fluffy idiot," Alex sobbed, throwing his arms around Leo's neck. "You're too good to me."

"Impossible," Leo murmured, carefully wrapping his forelegs around Alex in return. "You're carrying our family. Nothing I do could ever be 'too good.'"

Naga had been silent through this exchange, but when Alex looked up, he could see the serpent's eyes gleaming with emotion.

"Both of you are going to make me cry every day for the next three months, aren't you?" Alex asked.

"Probably," they admitted.

DAY TWO OF PREGNANCY PRINCESS TREATMENT:

Alex woke to find that the nest had somehow doubled in size overnight.

Softer furs. Silkier fabrics. Cushions that seemed to perfectly conform to his body. And in the center, a carefully arranged collection of smooth, warm stones that radiated gentle heat.

"What..." Alex sat up, blinking in confusion.

"What is all this?"

"Nest improvements," Naga said, appearing from the shadows where he'd apparently been keeping vigil all night. "I consulted with the elder serpents about optimal nesting conditions for carrying multiples. This is the recommended setup."

"You talked to your tribe? About me being pregnant?"

"Of course." Naga slithered closer, coils moving to arrange themselves around the nest's perimeter.

"You're carrying serpent tribe's lord's hatchlings. The tribe deserves to know their future generation is coming."

[System: Fun fact! The news of a pregnant male has already spread through the Serpent Tribe! At first they thought their lord must be crazy to mate with a male but now that you're pregnant they have reluctantly accepted you. Expect pregnancy gifts. LOTS of gifts. Probably starting... now.]

As if summoned, a young serpent beastman appeared at the cave entrance, carrying an elaborately woven basket.

"Lord Naga," the messenger said, bowing low. "The Council of Elders sends their congratulations and these offerings for the honored Lordess."

The basket was filled with: rare fruits, precious gems, soft fabrics, and what looked suspiciously like tiny hand-carved toys.

"There are already toys?!" Alex squeaked.

"The elders are... enthusiastic," Naga said, looking pleased. "This is the first male in history to bear serpent young in this generation. You're bringing hope to the entire tribe."

"No pressure or anything," Alex muttered.

The messenger bowed again and left, only to be replaced ten minutes later by another serpent bearing another basket.

And then another.

And another.

By midday, Alex's nest was surrounded by offerings from the Serpent Tribe.

"This is insane," Alex said, staring at the growing pile of gifts.

"This is traditional," Naga corrected. "The tribe honors the bearer of new life. Especially one carrying six hatchlings at once. That's... unprecedented."

"Great. I'm making serpent history by being abnormally fertile for a male, no. That's definitely what I wanted to be known for."

Leo, who'd been sorting through the gifts with barely contained delight, held up a tiny knitted outfit. "Look at this! It's adorable! It has a little tail hole and everything!"

"We don't even know if they'll be born in humanoid form or serpent form," Alex pointed out.

"Then we'll need outfits for both," Leo said reasonably. "I should start learning to sew. Can lions sew? I'll learn."

[System: Leo's Nesting Instinct: ACTIVATED! Warning: He's going to try to learn seventeen different baby-related crafts in the next week. It's going to be chaos. It's going to be adorable.]

DAY THREE OF PREGNANCY PRINCESS TREATMENT:

"Absolutely not," Naga said flatly.

"I'm just going to the hot spring," Alex protested. "It's literally fifty feet away."

"You could slip on the rocks."

"I'll be CAREFUL—"

"You could get dizzy from the steam."

"Then I'll sit in the shallow part!"

"What if your heat-regulation is affected by the pregnancy and you overheat?"

Alex opened his mouth. Closed it. Opened it again.

"That's... actually a valid concern."

"Exactly. So I'll accompany you."

"To the BATH?!"

"I'll keep my distance," Naga said primly. "I simply need to ensure you're safe."

Alex: щ(゜ロ゜щ)

"This is ridiculous."

"This is fatherhood," Naga corrected.

So Alex ended up bathing in the hot spring with Naga coiled on a nearby rock, determinedly looking away but absolutely within grabbing distance should Alex show even the slightest sign of distress.

"This is so weird," Alex muttered, sinking into the warm water.

"You'll get used to it," Naga said.

"Will I though? Will I really?"

"Probably not. But we'll all adapt together."

[System: Pregnancy Status Update - Week 4, Day 3:

Alex's sanity: Questionable but hanging in there]

When Alex finished bathing, Naga was there immediately with warm towels (where had he even gotten towels?!) and a robe so soft it felt like wearing a cloud.

"You're spoiling me," Alex said.

"Yes," Naga agreed, scooping him up to carry him back to the nest.

"I can walk—"

"Why walk when I can carry you?"

"That's not how that works!"

"It is now."

Back at the nest, Leo had prepared a light meal specifically designed to be gentle on Alex's stomach: mild broth, sweet fruits, and some kind of sweetened drink that actually helped settle the persistent nausea.

"You made this?" Alex asked, surprised.

"I've been studying," Leo said, looking pleased with himself. "The scrolls mentioned that Twisted root flowers and buckle berries help with pregnancy sickness. This sweetened water has both, plus a little sweet syrup for energy."

Alex took a sip. It was perfect.

"Thank you," he said softly. "Both of you. For... all of this. I know I complain about the hovering, but I do appreciate it. Really."

Both mates immediately looked like they might cry.

"You're our family," Naga said simply. "Our entire world. Of course we take care of you."

"All of you," Leo added, gently placing his paw over Alex's stomach. "All seven of you."

[System: EMOTIONAL SATURATION CRITICAL! Tissue alert! Wholesome family moment detected! +200 Affection Points all around!]

Alex felt tears slip down his cheeks—happy tears this time, not hormonal confusion tears.

"I love you both," he said. "Even when you're being overprotective nightmares."

"We love you too," they said in unison. "Even when you're being a stubborn disaster."

"Hey!"

But there was no heat in it. Just warmth, and safety, and the overwhelming knowledge that no matter what challenges lay ahead—reality-breaking quests, dangerous heists, the sheer terror of impending parenthood—they would face it together.

As a family.

All nine of them.
