Liquid fire enveloped my body, spreading to through every blood vessel within seconds. I began to twitch and tremble after I threw the alien syringe to the side. I gritted my teeth, feeling blood pour through my eyes and nose. I thought about my dad, how proud and disappointed he would be in me.
My mom, how she would be in pain to see me go and hate herself for letting me reach my death. Presley, my eldest sister, how she would curse me to the end of her life for dying before her. Amora, my second older sister, how she'd more than likely claim my weapon stash only to never use it. Anna, my little sister, how her rage against the Daviirn would grow even more at my death.
Tears mixed with blood as I felt my body change, in a very wrong way. My brain felt like it would melt, my bones felt like they would turn soft and my muscles felt like they were turning to nothing more than goo. I felt blood seep from my ears and felt death encroach upon me. Then, like a string being pulled tight, the pain vanished as I gritted my teeth so much that it felt like my jaw would snap.
My brain pulsed with a strange power, my bones felt like they hardened to an unfathomable level and my muscles strengthened as I felt my body break out with a cold sweat. I kept trembling, feeling my heart beat stronger than ever, my organs being filled with an impossible level of vitality and my 6 senses being amplified to a mind shaking level.
Danger.
I felt danger as my body rested limply against the ground. I looked over to my right and watched as a scouter stepped around the large rock. The barrel of the plasma rifle was pointed towards my head. I felt my pupils shrink as the scouter shivered, a strange feeling in my mind arrising. I panted heavily as I stared at the Daviirn who seemed to be struggling with something.
Then, I felt something form. A connection of sorts. The Daviirn raised his rifle higher and aimed it at the other that appeared at my other side. Without hesitation, the scouter pulled the trigger and shot the other one in the neck. There was gravely shouts of shock and anger. My mind cleared slightly.
Kill! Kill them all!
A strange thought appeared in my mind but my eyes widened the next moment. The scouter moved with unprecedented speed, firing his rifle two more times before rushing at the final enemy. I could hear the other two bodies fall as the scouter rammed into its brethren. With a groan, I flipped over onto my side and pushed myself up. The scouter had ripped off his brethren's helmet and was ruthlessly beating helmetless Daviirn's head with it.
Dark blue blood quickly stained the helmet as the scouter beneath him trembled and shivered in its last moments. My vision blurred and I felt the connection leave the Daviirn as I collapsed against the protruding rock. The scouter shivered with a hollow gasp, letting go of the helmet with trembling hands. He stared at the smashed skull below him before slowly turning his head.
I watched him stare at the rifle on the ground next to him before slowly grabbing it. With shaky but slow, calm movements, he pressed the barrel beneath his chin. With a pull of the trigger, a red line shot through the top portion of his skull before his body fell back. I watched with wide eyes, unable to believe what had just happened. A single thought in my swirling mind.
'Did... Did I... d-d-do that?' I inwardly gawked as I felt my body slowly get better.
No. I felt stronger. The strange fatigue I felt before was slowly leaving me. My blood pumped hard through my body but it... felt normal? Like that is how it is supposed to be. How can I even tell that, let alone feel it? As I slowly recovered, my mind became a storm of questions about what the fuck was going on. I pushed myself up and staggered in place a bit.
None of that mattered right now. I needed to escape back to my Krix and get home, asap. I stumbled over to the dead scouter to my right and fell down as my legs felt strange. I grabbed the plasma rifle as the strange feeling ran through my body. I began to feel weak as I slowly took out the power cell and switched it with a full one on the scouters belt.
"Fuuuuck~!" I groaned a curse, felling my whole body shiver as I tensed up.
I blacked out for a single moment. I came too immediately and somehow knew that I was unconscious for a literal second. I gasped, my body no longer hurting and feeling full of vigor. Somehow, I knew that whatever process I just went through was finally finished. I pushed myself up panting and looked around. I looked the way I came and saw several foot soldiers entering the forest from the creek.
One pointed directly at me and the other four with him aimed their guns at me. Before I could react, they opened fire and I flinched while raising my arms in front of me. It was a fruitless effort to defend myself.
Thoom thoom thoom thoom thoom
.... Or so I thought.
Lowering my arms, I stared at the long needle like rounds thumping into an invisble water like barrier before me. My eyes widened as I remembered see that War Officer protecting herself the same way. My posture shifted as I grasped onto the plasma rifle and squinted my eyes. The foot soldiers stopped firing, staring at me with shock before shivering.
My eyes squinted more as I imagined the bullets turning around and being sent back at them. To my joy and amazement, they did exactly that. The bullets shot forth, cutting through the trees and peppering the foot soldiers where they stood. My jaw dropped behind my helmet as I felt fresh blood on the skin of my face. Specifically from my nose.
I shook my head and raised the plasma rifle as I took cover behind the protruding rock. I pulled the trigger rapidly, sending red line after red line down range. They bit into the few foot soldiers that were still standing, forcing them to fall limply as death claimed them. I turned to my right and took off into a sprint. The trees blurred around me as I realized for a moment that I was moving far faster than before.
I also didn't feel my stamina drop a single bit. This feeling of power, strength, endurance and heightened senses was pure nirvana. I soaked in the feeling as I ran quickly, aiming to circle around to my Krix from where I was. Eventually, I reach the creek again. Yet, the water was far deeper here than up stream. I was also moving too fast to stop. I had to jump. I gritted my teeth and leaped upwards as I reached the edge.
"What the fuuuuuck!??" I yelled as I launched into the air, clearing the 20 foot wide creek with ease.
I landed with a roll and smashed into a thin tree that broke beneath me. I pushed myself up quickly and turned to stare at the creek. Eyes wide and mouth agape, I found it hard to believe what just happened. I just jumped over 20 feet like it wasn't a big deal. How should that even be possible? Then, it dawned on me. That white serum.
'Dad's going to be so pissed.' I thought as I felt my face pale.
Yeah, I just took some really strange alien serum that was used to conduct human experiments, dad. No, I obviously lived and made it back home. I'm going to be forced into a military facility and be studied? That is how I imagine that talk going. That is the best case scenario too, I was being optimistic about it. As I was deep in my thoughts, I didn't catch the sound of loud thrusters.
When I saw a War Bird fly over the treeline, I stiffened in place. I stared at it, my heart thumping like a wild rabbit cornered by a fox. A small screen protuded from the bottom of the cockpit and a blue light flashed over the area I stood. I blinked a few times as it scanned the area.
'Doesn't it see... Why can't I see my hands?' I began to ask myself as I looked down but found that I couldn't see myself.
I blinked rapidly as the blue light washed over the area a few times before it stopped. The screen raised back into the cockpit and the War Bird moved on. I slowly 'raised' my hands up in front of me and only now did I realize I dropped my plasma rifle when I jumped over the creek. I clenched my fists a few times, still able to feel them but I could see them. I let out a shaky breath and blinked
"Ah! What the fuck!?" I yelped and asked incredulously.
I could now see my hands once again. I patted myself down, looking over my body to see that I was all there. In fact, even the wound on my right arm was healed like brand new. I looked at my hands again and clenched them repeatedly. I tilted my head slowly, watching them vanish and reappear repeatedly.
"That is pretty cool." I chuckled wryly as I slowly spoke to myself.
And then, an idea popped into my mind. My lips curled darkly as I looked behind myself. Those bastards want to hunt me down for hours on end. Fine. Let's see how you like it when the tables are turned. With that, I turned around as my body vanished again and I sprinted towards my Krix. I need a weapon before I can hunt and there are two of them in my cargo hold.
---------------------
A few hours later, I found myself back at the treeline I had been at before blowing up the com tower. I held a plasma rifle in my hands with a bandolier of power cells, all the while invisible. I found this new ability, the invisiblity specifically, easy to use and maintain. I had left behind my AK and alice pack, making it easier to move around.
The sky was dark but the old farm was lit up like day. The farm house was gone, completely obliterated. Two of the three War Bird's, part of the escort of the transport craft, were destroyed and the transport craft had a damaged rear thruster. Foot soldiers and scouters patrolled the area as a group of them tossed dead humans into a pile.
The wheat field had been completely uprooted, leaving the area open without anything to hide in. The War Officer looked livid as she paced back and forth in front of a very damaged metal crate, now wearing a new helmet. On top of it was the last hostage, slumped over it with their head missing. The metal crate was covered in human blood with a bit of Daviirn blood.
I stepped behind a tree and revealed myself, attaching the plasma rifle to my chest as I actived my grav-anchor. I pulled out my combat knife, knowing this was going to need a hands on approach. My body vanished once more as I stepped out from the tree. Slowly, I made my way down the hill and into the farm land that looked like a battlefield now.
I walked right by several stationary guards, revealing in the shock that they couldn't see me despite being so close to them. That is when I noticed something, my intuition speaking to me. I could pull a move similar to what the War Officer did with the first hostage from this range without much of a rebound. I stopped next to a pair of foot soldiers that stood idly before I moved behind them.
Slowly, I raised my blade upwards and did my best to aim for the back of the neck. At the same time, I felt my mind pulse as I followed my intuition. I stabbed down the next moment, my blade piercing perfectly into the middle of the Daviirn's neck.
Crack!
At the same time, the other foot soldiers neck did a full 360 spin as it let out a sickening crack. I pulled my blade back only to find the blue blood sticking to it. I let it drop and it became visible to the world. I took several steps back as numerous foot soldiers and scouters stared in the direction of the two dead individuals. No one moved, no one spoke, they just stared in shock and disbelief.
The War Officer was the first to move, slowly walking over to look at the two dead corpses. With a flick of her finger, she lifted the blade that I had left behind into the air. My intuition told me that I could move without being noticed by trying the same telekinetic move on here would end badly. Very badly.
"Little rabbit, where are you~?" The War Officer's seductive voice rang out with shock and amusment.
I slowly stepped away, squinting my eyes at her with caution. Two foot soldiers and a single scouter came into my senses behind me. I slowly crouched down as the War Officer looked around slowly, as if studying the area intently.
Crraaacckkk~!
Three necks spun around in a full circle with a sickening crack that pierced the night dreadfully. The War Officer's head snapped in their direction and she tilted her head slowly. She flicked a finger, sending my combat knife into the neck of a nearby scouter. She slowly studied the area between herself and the Daviirn's I had just killed.
"You... You are the one who got away~? No? Hunted down like a little rabbit~ and forced to take the serum you stole~. You've bested the odds, little rabbit~. Even grew some nice fangs." She mused playfully, slowly walking past me to stare at the three dead bodies behind me.
"Yet... You are now trying to hunt the hunters? How generous of you, little rabbit~! You've come back to mama to play~!" The War Officer gave an ominous pause after one word, running her hands down her armor as if feeling pure euphoria.
I slowly stood, my expression stoic. The War Officers were far more sadistic and dangerous than what I was taught by dad. Seeing one in action makes me understand that they are far worse than I had imagined. I moved slowly with light steps, slowly getting use to using this telekinetic power. I raised my right hand and grasped it like I was grabbing something.
"Grrrraaa-ack!" A foot soldier was seemingly gripped by a massive hand as he growled in pain before going lip as the pressure killed him.
I waved my hand to the side and released my grasp, tossing the soldier into another group of three. By now, all of the foot soldiers and scouters raised their weapons as they looked around warily.
Running over with a joyful skip in her steps, the War Officer peered at the dead foot soldier coyly. It was as if she were a mother studying her childs art, making me shiver in horror.
"My oh my~. You are powerful too~. So calm and sharp! I can't even sense where you are at~ and you can even bend the light around you~ to hide in plain sight! Mar-vel-ous~!" The War Officer shuddered as she spoke, looking around as if looking for a new toy.
I gritted my teeth, angered that she wasn't acting afraid at all. With a twitch of my left eye, the necks of about 12 foot soldiers and scouters did a full circle. The crack of their necks echoing at once was darkly satisfying.
