Vincent was home as he ate with his mom and dad.
"Vincent"
"Hmm?"
He looked at his dad as he looked at him with a smile.
"Me and your mother had talked to a friend in the city with lots of luck, we can move there starting next month."
Vincent eyes widened it was great news, he wasn't opposed to living within the city borders. Maybe it's that small dream he once had to live there. Even though he already sneaked twice in the city.
"I know you have lived here your whole life, but trust us son we do this for you and us."
His mom spoke with a soft motherly smile. They worked a lot bone breaking jobs, his dad was a laborer packing heavy things and helping the guardsman for quite a bit, then my mom luckily worked with at the school. Though the funds were not so good so they didn't have the best education.
They had friended someone in the city and they were going to now have that friend help them get a passage to a better life.
"Alright"
It was sad as he knew everyone in the neighborhood and the kids too. He taught them without them going to school. Vincent agreeing made them happy as he wasn't opposed.
"You should look for a girlfriend to make you less gloomy and would stop you from smoking."
Vincent chuckled at his mom worry. His dad just ate and to wished that can happen. He was handsome but was quite a bit rough on the edges of appearance.
"Maybe later."
"You say that son, but you know a girl can help you lighten the mood."
"We'll see dad."
They continued eating as they happily chatted of other things. An anticipation to go to the city of Minok.

Vincent smoke a cigarette as he puffed he was young but he needed this smoke break. Sometimes he thought of quitting but conditions and environment pushes you that way. To relieve stress and find a way to cope from the harsh reality of life.
He thought what should he really do in life. There wasn't much going on as he rethinks of what opportunities he can obtain in the city. His parents told him that there are some good ways to earn money.
Maybe he could be a butler for some rich noble lady. He chuckled at that, he might be slight handsome but they would probably mistreat him even harshly. He hear of stories of those noble ladies use handsome men as toys for their lust.
He would choke the shit out of one if they dead, but he would suffer a fate worst than death more so.
Should he really become someone that fights for the imperium?
He already knew of how Kayle was treated but he even mentioned something he would laugh at. But thought maybe he was right.
He was told by him, he had a higher chance to become a space marine one of the emperors finest mighty warriors. Those that many call angels of the emperor, maybe he was right.
Vincent thought about it, he didn't know if he had the conviction. Because Kayle also mentioned a lot that they had to recite tons and tons of important lines of the bible of theirs. Where how important is the emperor.
Having it etched into her minds about killing the enemies. To be engraved of loyalty and obedience to the Emperor.
"nah..."
He didn't feel like it, fuck it he might as well just let fate run it's course.

[A month later]
Vincent saw a large amount of vehicles. Rolling in town as they headed to the main base in the town. The base of operations for the guardsman. He heard that the base had a underground bunker. Just in case shit goes down the drain.
"We're leaving now."
"To soon."
Kayle was beside his friend, he just gave a smile.
"Well Vincent it was always the best knowing you."
"Already saying things that you will die."
"I know I shouldn't say nothing of our operations to outsiders, but you make an exception...."
"The deathrate is 95%."
As he said that, Vincent saw the fear and worry in his eyes.
"To be honest i'm scared."
"Normal for it to happen."
"Yeah..."
Kayle changed the subject as they had little time before they separated.
"No girlfriend yet?"
"Nah"
"The handsome one of the neighborhood really has high standards."
Vincent felt a jab at that. Kayle knew how Vincent worked and how he thought of love and relationships.
"I'm moving to the city, so maybe I'll find love there."
"Really!?"
Shocked Kayle slammed him hard on the back.
"Fucker"
Vincent grunted but it didn't hurt.
"Congrats! I won't ask but shit at least you can live better than here."
"Yeah"
The noise of engines reving giving Kayle the queue.
"Guess it's time."
He looked at the parked military vehicles start up by other soldiers.
"Time for me to go."
Kayle put his hand out, and Vincent hugged him instead.
"Take care of yourself."
"You too."
They stayed like that for a few seconds. Kayle walked away as he looked at Vincent one more time.
"Don't miss me to much!"
Vincent laughed as he gave him the middle finger. Kayle just grinned as his figure disappeared inside the vehicle. It was his time to go, as a new company will settle down.
