Chapter 23 - The rhythm of a clockwork soul

In his eyes I see the destruction in his heart on fire, in blue, red and yellow flames. In your hands are the keys to the heights of hope, with their youthful sweetness smeared on your cheek. Your bright orange hair, your soul worthy of consolation and gratitude. With its beautiful problems in the form of poetry prose.

Andrew

What are we going to do now? asked Liam.Rest. replied Natasha.

"I don't know if I can sleep in this place. — Liam said

— Let's time the minutes, for each one's rest, right? asked Natasha.

All good. Liam replied.

Natasha put the heavy backpack on the ground and handed the weapons to Liam.

I close my eyes, I slowly fall asleep. In my dream the words of the riddle flew around me, a large mirror appears before me. Made of wood and mirrored glass in my glittering image. Suddenly, the riddle appears embedded in the wood, as if someone had carved it. I go inside the mirror. A forest covered in snow, I turn to the side and catch a snowflake in my hand that cuts my palm, with a drop of blood slowly falling to the white ground. The red of the blood stood out against the white of the snow. Turns into a rose without thorns. I pull it by the stem. I take it to my nostrils to appreciate its smell, its fragrance. I hear the howl of the wolf in the distance, I run in my blue dress made of fine fabric. I run into the animal, which rips a piece of linen from my dress, making me fall backwards into the snow. When I stand up, the color of the dress changes to a darker purple blue. I look straight into the wolf 's green eyes.

Handing her fangs a necklace made of black diamonds. As soon as I pick them up, the object turns to ash and dust.

"Natasha...— I hear Lilian's voice

I wake up startled by the dream, I see Liam struggling with the bow and arrow. Hitting the labyrinth walls.

"What are you getting right?— asked Natasha.

"In a kind of spider that becomes invisible. Liam replied. — I do not see anything. — said Natasha

I notice someone approaching, before I can grab the weapons, they choke me and drag me into the darkness.

— Natasha? asked Liam

My screams were muffled by the creature, a shape shifter that took my form.

"Don't think you'll do well in this one.— say

"Foolish girl, do you think I can't pass for you?— asked the creature

— It might even pass, but you'll have to put on a show of acting. replied Natasha.

"You're funny, I'll let you live for now. — said the creature

— Oh! Thank you very much for your consideration. — mocked Natasha

"Have it, I'm a good clement. — boasted the creature

"Show your true face. Natasha screamed

"You wouldn't want to see my real face.— explained the creature.

The creature transfigured from Natasha to a serpent, disappearing into the darkness. While the girl herself was tangled up in a giant spider's web.

...

"Andrew watch out!— — yelled Lillian "T...it's okay, Lily. Andrew gasped.

The serpent took advantage of the path to feed on whoever it found, by bad luck, it ended up finding Andrew and Lilian. Wrapping itself around Andrew's neck, he dropped the sword to the ground. Right next to the little girl.

"Lily, c— run!— Andrew said almost out of breath.

Lilian slid across the floor, holding her sword aloft. Realizing she had no way of attracting the creature's attention, she slashed the tip of her sword across its wrist. Making some blood come out. The shape— shifting serpent freed itself from the neck and lunged forward with its huge mouth and extremely sharp fangs.

Lilian was not intimidated, dodging the snake and cutting its head, making the creature disappear in ashes and smoke.

"Very well, Lillian. Congratulations. Andrew congratulated

"Thanks, it was pretty gross actually. Lillian smiled, wiping her face.

"Let's get out of here before another madness like that happens.— Andrew sighed.

You are completely right. Let's go. — said Lilian

On the way, the two found the creature's nest and a moving cocoon of web. Andrew got into an attack position and Lilian drew her revolver. A few seconds passed, Natasha came out of the cocoon with a wounded face. Her lips were bruised and her forehead cut was visible.

"Natalie! — shouted Lillian euphorically.

Lilian? asked Natasha.

"Sister, I miss you, my God. — cried Lillian

"Don't cry sweet Lily. Natasha soothed. — I am here.

— Natasha? Wow, nice to meet you. Andrew said.

"Liam! I ended up losing him. — I say

"Too bad, but we'll find him.— Let's have faith. Andrew said.

The labyrinth changed direction with each step taken. To our bad luck, we came face to face with the most harmful creature in the entire labyrinth.

The Nemean lion, devouring a piece of meat. Andrew was in front of us when he saw the animal, with his arms he pushed us away.

"Shhh...— Andrew whispered.

What it was? asked Natasha softly.

"A giant lion, over there. Andrew whispered again.

What will we do? asked Lillian.

"Let's turn around.— Andrew ordered.

We headed the other way, in silence. The animal noticed our presence and multiplied in two running towards us.

We were stuck at a crossroads, blocking our way out and in. The two lions stood as still as statues, motion sensors embedded in their pupils. The first lion roared and sharpened its claws to the ground, the second had a scratch near its eye. From a fight with another creature.

"Don't make sudden movements. ordered Andrew. "On my signal you attack.

Right. replied Lillian.

"Lily, don't even think about it. At the first sign of danger, you run. — said Natasha

Run? I will attack. thought Lillian.

Lilian loaded the ammunition for the guns and aimed at one of the lions. The first advanced against Natasha, who soon wielded her daggers, slashing the lion's face. The second remained stationary before attacking. Andrew was aware of every step taken. Trying to grab Natasha the lion, he knocked the girl to the ground, with his claws he tried to pierce her chest. Lilian ran underneath the animal, mounted on top of it and with the small knife she carried in her pocket scratched its back. The first lion grunted in pain, lying on its back on the ground. Spilling a black goo from the mouth.

Lilian? What are you going to do? asked Natasha.

"Sorry Lion King, your coffin will be sealed.— said Lilian, shooting the animal several times, which disappeared in embers and ashes.

Natasha gaped at her sister.

"Girl, you scare me sometimes. Natasha said with a grimace.

— Do what darling, some people are born with the gift of destruction. I and I was happily born with it. Lillian answered sarcastically.

"Lily, I missed your sense of humor.

Natasha, in the distance, heard someone approaching, drawing her bow and arrow and shooting which she saw a shadow appear on the wall of the labyrinth. The arrow flew through the air and scratched Liam's face who suddenly stopped.

"Liam! Andrew yelled

"Hey, wait, it's me.— — Liam said

"Oh my God, Liam, I'm sorry. — I say

"Relax, it's okay. — Liam said

Andrew ran to hug him, it had been a while since the two had seen each other, Natasha and Lilian also hugged, the two stood side by side, with the young girl intertwining her arms around Lilian.

— How long brother. I miss you. Andrew said.

"I don't know how you survived without me.— — Liam said

Andrew let out a friendly chuckle, remaining at his brother's side, taking his hands and ruffling his hair.

"Well, we're all fine, but now we have to figure out how to get out of this crazy maze. Natasha pointed.

"I think I know how to get out of here.— Liam replied.

"Sorry, what did you say?— asked Natasha.

— Yes, the enigma I think I deciphered. Liam replied.

Liam then explained:

"When I was running away from one of the bizarre creatures in that blessed labyrinth of aberrations, I saw a symbol of a wolf with a moon on its forehead, which might be an interesting clue, considering what's written here on this haunting parchment. — Liam said

"But how are we going to find the symbol again?— asked Lillian.

— That's where my dear Lilian is, I left some traces, to remember where I saw the image. Liam replied.

— We need to move quickly, the time we're here could cost our lives.

Natasha pointed.

"Yes, we have to go now. Andrew said.

We followed Liam with my compass, we walked for kilometers crossing all kinds of challenges, from the simplest to the most difficult, when we realized that we were going in circles.

"Wait a minute, what if the maze changes position as we walk?— asked Liam.

"What we're doing is in vain. If we never get out of here. Andrew said.

— Dude, stop being pessimistic, relax, we're going out. Liam replied.

Liam decided to cut the paths, we spent hours discussing what would be the best way to escape.

I already know! exclaimed Liam. "Lend me that bow and arrow."

"Here. — said Natasha

The boy took a piece of gauze and wrapped it around the arrowhead and with the lighter set it on fire completely.

"Liam... What do you intend to do?— Andrew asked suspiciously.

You will see. Liam replied.

He took the arrow and shot it upwards hitting the sunny sky, that's when the tip disappeared in the clouds, a big hole hit the top of the holographic dome. A rain of red rays hit the stone walls, causing everything to collapse.

"Boy, what did you do?— asked Natasha desperately.

"As I thought, the sky is just a hologram in disguise. replied Liam confidently.

— Yes, now we die under the boulders. — mocked Lilian "I think we'd better run.— Liam yelled — You think? asked Natasha.

"Guys, enough arguing, let's go!— Andrew yelled

As the quartet ran, in the background the gaps of stones fell like clumsy dominoes, falling side by side.

"We have no way out. We arrived at the end of the labyrinth. There's nowhere left to run. Andrew yelled

Natasha, Lilian and Liam hugged and crouched down. Andrew stood in front of them.

It was the end of us, we all closed our eyes and prayed not to die, I could hear everything falling apart.

— I love you. — finished Natasha
