They brought Damian to a separate room and extracted his blood before sending him to his bedroom. What they didn't know was that Damian was awake the entire time they extracted blood from him.
The following day, everyone woke up just fine, and no one was seriously hurt. It looked like the high frequency only hurt superhumans while it was ringing, but it didn't cause permanent damage.
Damian just wondered what they were going to do with his blood, but the only thought he came to was that they were going to try and replicate his ability.
Damian realised something: when he used his energy blast, it didn't cancel physical enhancements like super strength, durability, and so on, but it cancelled things like super speed, teleportation, telekinesis, flight, and so on.
The energy blast slightly diminished physical enhancements like super strength and so on. He hadn't met someone with an indestructible body or nigh-invulnerability, but he hypothesised that if he used his blast, the body would have super durability without nigh-invulnerability or an indestructible body.
Things changed in the orphanage after that incident. It's like they were treating everyone like the previous caretakers, without the torture.
They chose who to torture, but not everyone. Tony was always being tortured because he was the strongest kid there, with the sole exception of Damian Cross, of course, and he was easier to control than Damian Cross.
A few months later, the scientist, Bred Birks, finally managed to copy Damian's ability. At first, he tested it on mice, but each mouse died when it was injected with the serum.
Dr. Bred Birks questioned why the mice kept dying one by one and thought maybe they couldn't handle the power, so he "asked" a civilian to be the test subject, but he died too.
He brought close to a dozen civilians, and they all died one by one. His colleagues asked him to stop the experiments.
Bred halted the experiments and decided to confront Damian. He found Damian sitting with Gloria and David.
He walked towards him and looked at them. Damian noticed him coming, but Gloria and David didn't notice him until he arrived and were startled when they saw him.
"What's your superpower, boy?" Bred said in a frustrated tone. Gloria and David didn't want to get on Bred's bad side when he was this moody, so they slipped away.
"What are you talking about?" Damian feigned ignorance at Bred's question.
"Don't play with me, boy. WHAT'S YOUR SUPERPOWER?" Bred said angrily.
Damian thought about his ability. He can't stay dead, he can cancel superpowers, he can see ghosts, and he regenerates. When he looked at all that, there's only one thing he could think of... a Phoenix.
He thought he had the superpower of a Phoenix bird, but he couldn't say that because he wasn't sure.
"All I know is that my superpower has something to do with death" Damian said with a thoughtful gesture.
Bred finally realised something. His experiments were successful and not failures because Damian's ability had something to do with death.
Bred laughed out loud at the absurdity of the situation. He looked like a crazy man, and he was scary when he was laughing. Everyone looked at him like he'd gone nuts.
He returned to his lab. When he arrived at the lab and saw his research, he felt disappointed. He saw the blood bags and vials of Damian's DNA, and he destroyed them all. He crashed out in anger because his research was for nothing.
The caretakers and security guards came to stop him. The vials and blood bags that survived were stored away.
Bred Birks became a crazy man after that day. He stopped taking baths and started talking gibberish. They took him to the asylum after a few months, and he got locked up there.
Before Bred Birks was taken to the asylum, he said something to Damian that sounded like gibberish to everyone except Damian.
He said something that Damian doesn't know. Even if he knew, he wouldn't know, but he better know before he doesn't know because if he knew, it'll be easier to know and he'll understand everything.
After that, Damian started to investigate himself. He went to the library to look for any fires that happened around late 1976 and early 1977.
He found a fire that happened on February 9, 1977, near the old facility. Damian understood that they covered up the incident involving the dead babies and the two guys who died there because there was no report about any deaths.
He found out that the building burned on February 8 but was reported as having burned the following day. The building burned when he was reborn by fire, and he was stuck in soul or spirit form for close to 100 hours, which means he was born on February 4, or when he opened his eyes as a baby.
Damian finally found out his date of birth and that he was 11 years old. Damian was surprised by his age because he doesn't look 11 at all.
Melissa got adopted by a family.
Damian found out that David could control his hair however he liked. He showed Damian something.
He cut himself on purpose and bled a little blood. He controlled that blood to float in midair. Damian asked if he could control blood, but David said maybe. He could control anything that had his signature, like hair, saliva, or blood.
Damian understood him and remembered that he had copied David's superpower, but sadly he couldn't do what David could do. Damian boosted David's control over his DNA with his energy.
Damian thought about something. He brought two pans from the kitchen to Gloria. He told David to put some blood and hair in one pan, and he would do the same.
Damian drained his blood to fill the pan, and David did the same. Damian cut off his forearm and dropped it into the pan.
Gloria and David vomited when they saw his hand. Damian boosted Gloria's transmutation control and asked her to turn them into baseball bats. Gloria did, and they both turned into metal baseball bats.
Damian copied David's DNA control to himself, but he couldn't make blood float or control his hair. However, he could make his DNA return to him.
He recalled his DNA back to his body, and the baseball bat came flying towards him and hit his face. Damian didn't expect it would work, and David saw what Damian did. He understood him and did the same thing, but he caught his baseball bat.
He felt happy with the results.
The year became 1989 and a kid by the name of Nadia Khayat was brought to the orphanage.
