Noah's stomach turned over.

The first thing he noticed was the city. It wasn't just big—it was ridiculous. Towering skyscrapers gleamed under a sun so bright it hurt his eyes. Flying cars zipped through the streets like swarming insects. Huge digital billboards flashed images of superheroes and villains, some with logos that looked absurdly familiar, others he didn't recognize at all.

And then… he saw it.

A massive mech. Towering at least four stories tall, its glowing red eyes swept across the streets, firing lasers everywhere. Cars flipped. Streetlights shattered. People screamed and ran like the apocalypse had just arrived.

Noah swallowed hard.

Oh no. Oh no no no.

He stumbled backward, his legs shaking. "Okay, Noah. Calm down. Think. Breathe. Don't die. Just… don't die," he muttered. He glanced at his hand, where the multiverse symbol glowed faintly. He had no idea what it was supposed to do. Maybe it was a power. Maybe it was a death sentence. He didn't even know.

"Great. Fantastic. Just a normal Monday," he groaned.

The mech swung its massive arm toward him. Panic shot through his chest. Before he even thought about it, he raised his hands instinctively. A small sphere of shimmering energy flared from his symbol and slammed into the mech. Sparks flew. Concrete cracked. The mech staggered, recoiling as if slapped.

Noah stumbled back. "Wait… did that just happen? Did I… I didn't… I mean, okay. That worked, maybe?"

The mech recovered, swinging again. Panic surged, mixing with adrenaline. The sphere expanded. Bigger. Brighter. Stronger. It collided with the mech, sending it staggering. Another strike and… the damn thing exploded in a shower of sparks and twisted metal.

Noah's knees gave out. He dropped to the ground, hands shaking. "Oh… oh no. Okay… yeah… that happened. I… I destroyed it? Oh god, I destroyed it…"

Then he noticed movement nearby. A figure crouched on a building rooftop, cape flowing in the wind, scanning the wreckage. The man… was calm, precise, terrifying.

Oh god. He's gonna kill me.

Noah's mind raced. Who even is that? Is he… a hero? Or a villain? Am I about to die?

The man descended slowly, landing with a silent precision. He crouched near the destroyed mech, inspecting it closely. His eyes narrowed, analyzing every spark, every dent, every scorch mark.

Noah swallowed so hard his throat hurt. "Oh no. Oh no no no. He's looking at it… he's gonna find out it was me. Oh god, I'm dead. I am so dead."

The man muttered under his breath. "Something's… off. This mech should've gone down differently… the pattern of its destruction… doesn't match my attack. There's a variable. Someone was here."

Noah felt his heart leap. Oh crap. He knows. He knows. He's coming for me. I'm done for.

He pressed his back against the wall of the alley, hands trembling. "Okay, stay calm. Stay calm. Don't get noticed. Don't—don't—don't die."

The man—Batman. He didn't know it yet, but Noah had figured it out from movies and comics—stepped back, scanning the street. He was meticulous, calculating, every movement precise. Whoever had destroyed that mech… had incredible raw power. Far beyond normal humans. Probably beyond any villain tech, too.

Noah's thoughts ran wild. Oh god. Raw power. Uncontrolled. I'm gonna blow up the city. I'm gonna die. I'm gonna…

The multiverse system, quiet but clear, whispered in his mind:

"Emotional intensity amplifies output. Use fear and adrenaline strategically. Caution: exposure to local powerful entities may accelerate power growth or danger."

Noah groaned. "Yeah… yeah, I get it. Fear is power. Great. Nothing could go wrong here. Totally safe."

He peeked out of the alley. Batman was already checking the mech's remains. Sparks still drifted from broken joints. Somewhere in the city, helicopters circled, recording everything. News feeds were going to go nuts. And someone else would notice.

Noah's stomach dropped further. I might already be famous—or dead. Or both.

He pressed his back further into the alley. "Okay. Don't panic. Just… survive. Don't touch anything. Don't let him see you. Maybe hide. Yeah. Hide is good."

The mech's remains still smoked. Noah looked at them, hands shaking. I destroyed that. By accident. How do you even survive that and not die instantly?

A sudden thought hit him: someone like Batman would trace this, figure out who did it, probably go back to his Batcave, check every camera, every sensor. And if he found me…

Noah swallowed hard. "Oh god. He's going to find me. I barely know what I can do. I'm a complete idiot in this city. Oh god. I'm going to die."

A flicker of energy pulsed in his hand. The symbol glowed faintly, almost like it was aware of his fear. Sparks leapt from the nearby streetlamp as he tried to control it. He clenched his fists, focusing on… something. Anything.

"Okay… survive. Don't die. Don't kill anyone. Don't blow anything else up." His heart pounded so fast he thought it might explode.

Somewhere above, the helicopters continued circling. Civilians screamed, pointing at the wreckage. Somewhere, Batman was already analyzing the footage, plotting, calculating. Whoever destroyed the mech wasn't just another civilian—he was dangerous.

Noah groaned, leaning against the alley wall, taking shallow breaths. "Alright… so. I destroyed a mech. I have no idea what I can do. I'm terrified. I don't even know if Batman is going to find me first or if the city's going to burn down before I figure it out. Yep. Perfect. Absolutely perfect."

The symbol on his hand pulsed faintly again, reacting to his fear. He could feel it. It wasn't much, but it was something. Maybe he could control it… maybe.

Noah wiped sweat from his forehead. "Okay. Plan. Hide. Don't get seen. Don't blow up anything else. Maybe—just maybe—figure out what this symbol does before the guy in the cape tracks me down. Yes. Yes, plan. Good plan."

The city roared around him, sirens, chaos, screaming, sparks… and somewhere far above, a dark figure in a cape prepared to investigate the anomaly who had just destroyed his mech.

Noah pressed himself against the wall again, whispering to himself: "Welcome to DC, Noah. This is way worse than I imagined. But hey… at least I'm alive. Probably. Hopefully. Maybe."

And somewhere in the back of his mind, a small spark of excitement flickered. Because even terrified out of his mind… Noah Reed felt alive for the first time in years.
