Chapter 11 - Giants, Goblins, and crocodiles?

Hello, it is I, Leroy, welcome back to my journey and adventures in another world

Two days have passed since my cartoonish demonic trial, i believe my 'soul' has healed pretty well since I rested, and I suspect my hands healed alongside it and became somewhat functional.

I traveled more than 400 miles on a road not fit for traveling and still, there is no sign of civilization, the demon king must've be a petty person

My current plan is to find a source of water, preferably a river, and use it to guide me to the nearest town or hopefully a city. Also because I smell like tangy, I can't waste the truck's limited water source of 20 gallons until I find a water source, I should've resupplied better but got lazy because of the holidays. At least I have the essentials.

The numbness and emptiness are still clouding me, I lost my sense of taste, I could not enjoy my favorite ice cream or dish so I resorted on saving spices for a surprise guest or maybe trade it for some of this world's currency.

I turned off Socrates to conserve some fuel. I drained all the wonder fuel from the engine and decided to use my 20k watts solar panel to charge my truck until I can recycle my fuel. It was not bad at all, I had to wait for 2 hours under the sun to travel 800 miles.

Finally, on the morning of the third day, I found a massive river that seemed to stretch for miles. I began to take off my clothes to bathe, but before I could step into the water, a giant six-legged crocodile with long hair and a short snout stealthily appeared next to me to drink. To my shock, the beast approached, sniffed my hair, and then simply walked away.

This could mean two things, either I smelled so bad that I turned off the beast's appetite. Or, the gassy like liquid that commander Zerka poured on my head during the invasion still worked to this day, 4200 years later.

I had mixed feelings at first, I wanted to bathe badly or else the smell could stick to my trucks interior. At the same time, if I never bathed all unintelligent beasts would not bother me for a while. Obviously, I chose to refill the truck with 120 gallons of water, and bathed away from the river while holding a handgun just in case those hairy bipedal dogs were to ambush me in the woods.

Two days after following the river, the land looked like humans inhabited it. I found a rocky road that went on for miles and decided to follow it.

This planet was huge, easily 15 times bigger than earth. No wonder poor Jim couldn't find civilization and got lost in the woods for 6 months, the least I could do for him after getting him killed is try to find his daughter Jenna.

While traveling on the road, I saw a scene straight out of fiction, a giant human attacking a carriage, and four people in medieval armor fighting him, if I had to guess the giant was about 40 feet tall.

The little humans seem to be struggling against the giant and I was conflicted if I can do anything to help them, if I want to go battle mode and turn on Socrates it would easily burn the fuel that I harvested from the sun and leave me vulnerable against the humans. Just because I did not value my life as much as before does not mean I would rush to my death for no reason.

using my advanced military grade goggles and scanning the area, the battle was approximately 600 yards away from me, while trying to figure out a solution, one of the humans got obliterated with a swing from the giant, it looked like if you hit a watermelon with a baseball bat.

I took a deep breath and let out a small chuckle, I really was overthinking the situation, I parked my truck parallel to the battle and opened the roof of the vehicle. I proceeded to reload my 25mm anti-herathian sniper rifle and aimed at the exposed skin of the giant, this sniper rifle could easily put a hole in my armored truck.

I waited for the perfect shot, I used to hunt game with my uncle when he had free time so it is not like I was a beginner hunter. One of the men managed to slice the Achilles tendon, causing the giant to stumble back in pain, but it was only a little nick, the giant could still fight

Seeing the opening i aimed at his stomach, since I was not familiar with this type of rifle, I wanted the most optimal shot possible the can help flip the tide of the battle. I squeezed the trigger

*BANGGGGGG*

I was not mentally prepared to get my eardrums nearly blown off, I got pushed back a little bit and hit my rip cage against the roof of the truck. This anti material rifle was definitely overkill, when I regained my balance, I activated my goggles to check If I had hit my mark, And boy I was surprised.

The giant opened his mouth at a 90 degree angle and let out an earth shattering scream while holding his groin, every man at the scene held their stomach as if the pain was happening to them, me included.

One of the men who seemed to be their leader took quick action and beheaded the screaming giant to end his unimaginable suffering.

The anti-material rifle was definitely over kill, there was a huge hole covering the giants groin area, i was not sure if the other calibers I had on me could put a dent on the giants skin but a simple handgun bullet to the balls would do the trick

After they was done celebrating the victory they quickly scouted the area to see the source of the large sonic boom that they heard before

I didn't want to interact with them honestly, what would happen if they saw someone riding a moving fortress while having access to weaponry that can take down a giant with ease? They would want it for themselves obviously.

Before I could drive away I was spotted by what seems to be the leader of the squad, I didn't know how he could see me when I was well hidden between the trees from hundreds of yards, perhaps he was using magic?

I smiled awkwardly and waved at him, he waved back enthusiastically and it honestly crept me out a little bit seeing an old man with gray beard acting like a child.

He then bowed as a thank you, he put one leg behind the other with one hand behind his back and the other on his chest and proceeded to lean at a 90 degrees angle. It rather reminded me of a European bow but it was more refined and sincere, felt somewhat nice actually, like I was called a boss in a shaworma shop.

This is the first time in my life that I helped someone out of my own volition, not because my nana was beside me, not because my job told me to, not to impress anyone. I was alone, no friends, family, or anyone to care about me. I thought the only way I could elevate the constant numbness and emptiness was by inflicting pain and suffering to others, but right now, even if just for a little bit, I felt a slight warmness in my chest, It made my decision to follow this path even firmer.

Zooming in on the carriage, I saw two women dressed in what I assumed to be an expensive attire and jewelry, my evil human sensors were going off the charts, and it has never failed me before, the two women in my sight are nothing but trouble.

The old leader signaled for me to come closer, but I simply placed a finger to my lips and made a 'shush' gesture. He understood what I was trying to convey, adopted a serious expression, and nodded in approval. I rubbed my sore sides, proceeded to turn on the truck, and took a detour away from the carriage.

This time I did not want to die without spending all my resources and decided to fill up my truck with threez cans of wonder fuel instead of just using solar energy, I had 6 cans left excluding the ones that I filled the tanks with. One canister can last me for 2100 miles not including Socrates, but just in case I needed flee or fight someone It would last me about 450 miles with Socrates battle mode.

After a minute of driving away from the battle, my dumbass realized that I should have covered my face before helping the armored folk against the giant. I hope that hawk eyed old man doesn't sell me out and keeps his promise

One hour after the incident, a group of armored up horseman appeared on the opposite side of the road, I am assuming they are the cavalry sent to help defeat the giant. They blocked the road and formed a line to prevent me from fleeing.

One of them came up to me, he had a short bowl cut and had many wrinkles that covered his face, and spaced out square shaped teeth, and a pudgy nose. I wanted to inform him that the giant was dead, so he can relax and let me pass through the road unbothered, I had a ski mask on so they couldn't recognize my face later on.

What he said next shocked me to my core

Pudgy: #&!*^#(#^(!#^(*#^

Leroy: huh???

Pudgy: #!&#*&^#@

SHIT, OFCOURSE THE LANGUAGE CHANGED!!!, it has been 4200 years since Herathia. I am so screwed. Pudgy started getting angry when I told him that I couldn't understand him and he started shouting his lungs out, his face became red.

Since we could not communicate, I did the most logical thing. I simply rolled up my windows and ignored him, I did not want to run through the poor horses so I activated camouflage mode and went around them. Obviously they could see the track marks but they didn't want to risk an unwanted battle.

Thankfully they went on their way without bothering me.

After another hour I spotted a town!! Finally!!, it was not big enough to be called a city, and was not that small to be called a village. Since I did not know the language I was obviously so screwed, my linguistic talent was not on bar with others, Where is Kaneki when I need him. Change of plans, I will try to be as lowkey as possible and try to blend in with the towns folk, I will try to learn their currency, try to connect the dot between their language and the old Herathian dialect.

I parked my truck approximately an hour walk away from the town, If i was moving at moderate pace that is. The place was I parked it at was a vast forest that somehow had enough space for my truck to move freely. The ecology of this planet is so interesting to me, I passed so many interesting looking trees, animals, and bugs.

I stepped out of the truck to scan my surroundings, and walked for what seemed to be 15 minutes into the forest, I was heading the direct route to the town. I smelt a familiar stench and looked behind me, i was shocked to see three green goblins, one had gray hair, the other one was bald with a scar, and the last one was a female with a normal nose and brown hair, she looked like a child with green skin and long ears.I didn't sense any animosity from them at all for some reason.

The elder goblin: nice to meet you human, my name is Modrar, the bald fellow that you kept staring at his scalp for a minute is my son Aikar, and this is my adorable grandchild Abrar.

I opened my mouth in shock, he could understand old Herathian?! He noticed me staring at his son's cranium?! We could communicate in the first place?!

Leroy: nice to meet you all and sorry for staring, if you do not mind I will be going on my way…..

As soon as I carefully turned my back and started to put some distance between us the elder's voice distracted me again

Modrar: if you do not mind human, we seek your assistant if you would be kind enough to spare us some of your time

I sighed for a little bit and turned my back towards them and said

Leroy: Listen, Grandpa Modrar. I don't think I will be of any help at all, but tell me what seems to be troubling you, and I will see if I can offer any assistance

What could they possibly want from someone who cannot use any magic and only has his essentials in his truck that is parked 45 minutes away from him?

Modrar: thank you human, two hours ago, two human children got scared of us and ran away further in the forest, the same way you came from. Have you seen them? One of them was injured by a gnoll that was chasing them

I started getting suspicious, why do they care about some human children? Do they want to eat them or something? Obviously, I had to ask the elder

Leroy: why do you care about some human children? What is your motive?

Modrar: the poor children were gathering sustenance when they got attacked by the gnoll, Aikar defeated the gnoll and wanted to bring the basket of vegetables back to the little humans but they got scared and ran away to your direction. We want you to guide them back to the town, we are not welcomed their unfortunately

I did not sense one lie in his sentence, my evil people radar was at an all time low, for some reason the green skin goblins seem to be civilized unlike the red goblins from the invasion

Leroy: thank you for your kindness Aikar and Modrar, I will make sure the children get back to the town safely when I find them

Modrar, Aikar, and Abrar were astonished by my gratitude, as if they had never seen a normal human who does not attack at random and is not a savage. I waved back at them and went back to the armored truck, if I need to search for someone in a forest, what is a better way than heat seeking goggles?.

To my surprise when I arrived, the little children were inspecting the armored truck with a stick, unaware of my presence, a simple "hello" startled them as they took their defensive stance.
