Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Shadow of the Black Star

The battlefield lay in ruin. Smoke rose in spirals from crumbling buildings, the sky above a bruised canvas of purple and gray. Silence ruled, broken only by the distant groans of twisted metal and the cries of scattered survivors. Among the wreckage, a lone figure strode forward, his presence commanding, yet terrifying.

Zyren Ashford, former ace pilot of the Aegis Federation, had once been a symbol of hope. Now, he carried something far darker: the Gundam Noctyrix Abyss, a machine forged not for glory, but for vengeance. Its obsidian armor shimmered with crimson veins of raw energy, pulsating like the heartbeat of a creature alive—and perhaps, in a way, it was.

Zyren's eyes glinted beneath his helmet, reflecting the twin-red sensors of the Gundam. The Black Star of Ruin, they called it. But it was more than a name. It was a curse. The Abyss Core that powered Noctyrix Abyss was sentient, a dark intelligence that fed on Zyren's anger, his despair, and his relentless desire for justice twisted into wrath.

He had been betrayed by the Aegis Federation, left for dead during the Battle of Veyron City. His comrades had abandoned him, leaving him to drown in the inferno of war. And in the ashes of that day, he had found the Abyss.

A shadow shifted in the distance, signaling the arrival of the enemy—the Remnant Legion, a rogue faction that had taken control of the city's ruins. Zyren's fingers tightened on the Gundam's controls. The Abyss Core thrummed in response, a low, vibrating growl that echoed in his chest. It was alive. And it hungered.

"Ready… Zyren," a voice hissed inside his mind. The Abyss Core spoke, a whisper of shadow and malice. "They will fall. Let the darkness consume them."

Zyren's lips pressed into a thin line. "Just don't take me with you," he muttered, though a part of him secretly hoped it would.

With a single, fluid motion, Noctyrix Abyss unfolded its Shadow Halo Wings, dark energy tearing across the battlefield like liquid night. Its claws and sharp-edged armor caught the dying light, reflecting a menacing crimson glow. Zyren's pulse quickened.

The enemy forces saw the blackened figure and froze. Rumors had long circulated of a Gundam that could not be stopped, a machine that thrived on despair. Few believed it existed—fewer still survived encounters with it.

"Zyren Ashford… alive?!" shouted a voice from a shattered tower. Lieutenant Marvek, one of the few Remnant commanders who had survived the initial assault, now stepped forward, his own mech armor battered and scorched. "You should've died in the fire!"

"I didn't," Zyren said flatly, his voice steady despite the storm raging inside him. "And now… it's your turn."

With that, Noctyrix Abyss surged forward. The ground trembled beneath its feet. The Void Reaver Blade ignited, a streak of pure red energy that hummed as it cut the air. Shadows bled from the Gundam's body, clawing at the battlefield, consuming the light.

Marvek's squad attempted to form a defensive line, firing energy rounds, missiles, and plasma cannons. But the Noctyrix was untouchable. The Umbral Phase Shift activated; Zyren felt the familiar rush as the Gundam became intangible, passing through the hail of fire, leaving behind only a shadowy afterimage. When the afterimage detonated in a pulse of dark energy, the enemies screamed as the shockwave tore through their armor.

Zyren's mind merged with the Abyss Core, the machine's will intertwining with his own. He could feel every particle of darkness around him, every despairing thought in the minds of the enemy. The Eclipse Fang Funnels detached from the Gundam, spinning through the air like predatory black petals. They tore through armor, phase-shifting to bypass defenses, feeding information directly into the Core.

The battlefield was chaos incarnate. Explosions carved craters into the ruined city, but Zyren moved like a shadow of death. Each step of the Gundam was precise, deliberate. Its wings sliced the sky, leaving streaks of black energy that swallowed light. Marvek barely had time to react before the Graviton Coffin Cannons launched. Gravity compressed into deadly black spheres, collapsing with devastating force. Soldiers were crushed before they could even scream.

"Zyren… this… this isn't human!" Marvek shouted as he scrambled to escape. But Noctyrix Abyss was already upon him, its red sensors locking onto the target. Zyren felt the Core's hunger spike. "Yes," the voice hissed. "Claim it."

With a flick of his wrist, the Void Reaver Blade descended. Time seemed to slow. Marvek's mech armor shattered like glass under the strike, and the lieutenant was thrown back, unconscious. Silence fell again.

Zyren exhaled slowly, his chest heaving beneath the helmet. The Abyss Core pulsed, satisfied. But Zyren knew the darkness demanded more. Every life taken fed it, strengthened it—and weakened him. He could feel a shadow creeping into his mind, whispering, cajoling, promising power if he surrendered.

"No," he muttered. "Not yet. I control it… not the other way around."

Even as he spoke, the city around him trembled. A massive figure rose from the rubble: a towering war machine unlike any he had faced before. Its armor was jagged and metallic, veins glowing with toxic green energy. The Sentinel of Veyron, a prototype weapon of the Remnants, was designed for one purpose: to destroy Zyren and Noctyrix Abyss.

The Gundam responded instinctively. Its wings flared, the air vibrating with raw energy. Zyren's hands gripped the controls, his mind synced with the machine. Abyss Overlord Form activated. Dark energy enveloped the Gundam, wings stretching larger, claws glowing with red fury. Runic cracks spread across its armor, symbols of the Abyss glowing with unearthly light.

Time slowed. The enemy's massive attacks seemed to crawl as Zyren moved, each strike calculated, each dodge flawless. The Noctyrix was no longer just a machine—it was an extension of his rage, his vengeance, his broken soul.

The Sentinel roared, firing a salvo of green plasma that shredded buildings. Zyren pivoted the Gundam, blades swinging in arcs of red light. The Eclipse Fang Funnels launched, phasing through the heavy armor to strike the Sentinel's core. Energy erupted in a blinding explosion, yet the monster remained standing.

"You… cannot win," a distorted voice echoed from the Sentinel. Zyren gritted his teeth.

"Yes… I can," he replied, though the words carried the weight of every betrayal, every scar, every shadow of his past. With a single, devastating motion, Noctyrix Abyss descended. The Void Reaver Blade ignited with unimaginable energy, tearing through the Sentinel's chest and core in a sweep of crimson fury.

Silence fell over the battlefield once more. Smoke rose, and the remnants of the Remnant Legion fled in terror. Zyren stood among the ruins, the Gundam's wings slowly retracting, shadows curling around its body.

The Abyss Core whispered, satisfied. "You are mine, Zyren. And yet… you survive. This… pleases me."

Zyren shook his head, stepping out of the cockpit. "I survive because I choose to," he said softly. "Not because of you."

But even as he spoke, he felt the darkness pressing closer, like a tide he could not hold back forever. Noctyrix Abyss was a weapon of vengeance, yes—but vengeance had a cost. One day, Zyren knew, that cost would come for him.

For now, he had survived. For now, the Black Star of Ruin stood unchallenged. And the world would remember the shadow that had fallen across Veyron City.

The wind howled through the broken streets, carrying the echoes of a machine and its pilot: a darkness that refused to die.

Zyren Ashford looked up at the sky. The Black Star burned brightly—and in its light, the shadows deepened.
