Chapter 8 - 8) Case Closed

Seeing the condition of the ROOT ninja, Itachi's eyes twitched almost imperceptibly.

"Ken'ichi, Minoru fall back."

The moment the order left his mouth, both Uchiha vanished with Body Flicker and reappeared behind Itachi and Shisui, standing silently.

Kakashi stepped forward and knelt beside the fallen ROOT operative, checking his pulse and injuries.

"Both arms are shattered, wrists broken Severe concussion"

Itachi exhaled slowly.

He didn't blame the two Uchiha.

First, they had acted in defense—putting down a mad dog before it could bite.

Second, the Uchiha needed an outlet.

For years now, the clan had been watched day and night by ANBU and ROOT alike.

Surveillance, suspicion, provocation—it all piled up. Prideful by nature, the Uchiha could not strike back openly. Any direct attack would be treated as a declaration of rebellion.

So they waited.

They waited for moments like this—moments where retaliation could be justified.

---

The ANBU and ROOT operatives present felt a chill run down their spines as Kakashi finished his report.

"Waste."

A ROOT member muttered the word without emotion.

ROOT shinobi had no names

No feelings

No past

No future

Only the mission.

That was why none of them had intervened. They felt no anger, no sympathy—only disgust.

He was a new recruit. Too deeply brainwashed into blind devotion to Danzo.

Most ROOT operatives were loyal, fanatically so—but they still had judgment. They understood what lines could not be crossed.

Attacking Itachi Uchiha was one of them.

As for the ANBU, they were not as emotionless as ROOT—and technically, they should have intervened.

But they had something just as important.

Brain

They knew what ROOT and ANBU had done to the Uchiha over the past few years. And they knew better than to give the clan an excuse to retaliate.

Because when the Uchiha fought, they fought to the death first.

Only after the enemy was broken did they consider consequences.

And then, they hit again.

Three months earlier, the Uchiha Police Department had broken twenty-three bones of a ROOT Ninja who obstructed their work.

Medical fees were paid. Compensation was given to Danzo.

Though the ROOT ninja never walked again.

Later, word spread quietly—Danzo had executed him to prevent information leaks.

So no one moved.

Even if they wanted to, they lacked the strength.

Standing there were Shisui Uchiha and Itachi Uchiha—the twin pillars of the clan.

One could hold Kakashi at bay.

The other could annihilate everyone present.

And that was without counting the rest of the Uchiha.

So no one stepped forward.

---

"Hound," Itachi said calmly,

"the Konoha Military Police Department will cover his medical expenses.

You can file the request through the Administration & Liaison Division."

Kakashi gave a short nod, saying nothing.

"There are no further clues at this location,"

Itachi continued. "I'll be taking my leave. For today, the Uchiha clan will give face to you and refrain from interfering further in this case."

His eyes hardened slightly.

"But if Hokage-sama does not formally close this investigation by today, then tomorrow we will take stricter measures."

With that, Itachi turned and walked away.

Shisui followed beside him.

Yagami and the other Uchiha operatives fell in behind them.

The civilians lining the street hastily stepped aside, fear evident in their expressions. Yet even as they made way, their whispers followed.

"Those damn Uchiha… how dare they treat ANBU like that."

"Do they even understand that ANBU represents Hokage-sama's will? With injuries like that, that ninja won't be able to fight for at least a year."

"They only know how to bully the weak. When it's time to leave the village and fight other nations, they crawl back into their kennel."

"Those Uchiha should all die. I once stole goods worth less than a thousand ryō—I was starving. I planned to repay everything.

But what did they do? They broke both my arms and locked me up for three months."

The voice trembled with hatred.

"My arms healed crooked. I can't even work properly now. Those bastards… they'll pay for this someday."

Itachi heard every word, though he didn't stop. Even if he didn't do anything today they would have accused that the Uchiha clan is not doing their work properly.

Current Itachii's Analysis

😁 😁 😁 😁 😁 }

Ninety-nine percent of the ninjas and civilians did not come to hate the Uchiha clan because of the Nine-Tails Tragedy.

No—that event was merely the spark.

The prairie had been dry long before the fire was lit.

The true reason for the hatred directed at the Uchiha lay elsewhere.

Envy

They envied that they were not born Uchiha.

They envied the standards the Uchiha were held to from the moment of birth.

They envied a clan that possessed the strongest bloodline in the ninja world—a bloodline capable of elevating a mere genin to chunin the moment the Sharingan awakened, and allowing a chunin to step into the realm of jōnin and beyond with terrifying speed.

They envied power they could never obtain, no matter how fiercely they trained.

And then there was the Konoha Military Police Department.

To most civilians and low- to mid-ranking shinobi, the Military Police represented the safest and most privileged position in the entire ninja world.

A place where one did not march into foreign lands.

A place where one did not gamble their life on blood-soaked missions.

A place where one did not die nameless in wars between great nations.

One merely patrolled the village, dealt with civilians and weak shinobi, while true threats were handled by ANBU.

In their eyes, it was paradise.

And that paradise was given to one clan alone.

They never cared that this so-called "gift" was also a cage.

They never cared that the Uchiha were excluded from the village's true centers of power.

They saw only privilege—and decided the Uchiha did not deserve it.

Another source of hatred lay within the Uchiha themselves.

The Uchiha clan was naturally proud, even arrogant. They did not scheme. They did not whisper conspiracies in the shadows. They believed in strength, responsibility, and order.

They did not allow corruption to fester.

They did not take bribes.

They did not bend the law.

They did not look the other way.

And that alone made them enemies.

Because most people do not hate injustice—

they hate those who refuse to participate in it.

Now consider the civilians.

They demanded protection, yet despised those who enforced order.

Because of the Uchiha, law in Konoha was strict. Crime was punished. Exploitation was restrained. Through the mission system, civilians held significant influence—sometimes even more social power than genin and chunin. Only jōnin stood clearly above them.

This bred arrogance.

To many civilians, lower-ranked shinobi were little more than servants—tools to be hired, used, and discarded.

The incident in the Land of Waves mission in anime was not an exception; it was the norm.

Certified ninja were mocked, deceived, and looked down upon. Tazuna's lies and scorn were not unusual—they were simply unfiltered.

But the Uchiha did not tolerate such behavior.

To them, wrong was wrong.

Status did not matter.

Wealth did not matter.

If a civilian broke the law, they were punished the same as anyone else.

And that shattered the illusion of civilian superiority.

Hatred followed swiftly.

In the end, the Uchiha clan was not hated because they were cruel.

They were hated because they were incorruptible.

And in a world rotting from compromise, nothing is more despised than those who refuse to bend.

{ Well, i thought this was reasonable so I wrote it.

Though I may have whitewashed the Uchiha as we do not know the entire story.

But, this may also be possible

Example : Sakumo Hatake }

---

After Itachi returned to the Police Headquarters, an ANBU operative approached him and informed him that the case had been officially closed.

"Okay."

With that brief response, the ANBU ninja vanished.

"Well, Brother Shisui," Itachi said calmly, "it seems Danzō paid quite a price."

Shisui nodded. An abrupt closure like this could only be achieved by Danzō. No one else possessed that kind of influence.

As for the idea that ANBU had found the perpetrators and neatly wrapped up the case—

Heh

The perpetrator was standing right beside him.

"Itachi," Shisui said, turning away, "you should get back to your duties. I need to go visit a friend."

Itachi nodded

"Goodbye, Brother Shisui."

And just like that, the first day of Itachi Uchiha in the Konoha Military Police Department came to an end.
