Chapter 10

RAINEY

Since I was left alone in the room, I started thinking about doing some personal investigating.

Silas and his right-hand man had been talking about one "hidden child" for the past two days, and I had been curious ever since.

I really needed to know. I shouldn't be kept in the dark forever, should I?

I crawled out of Silas's bed, letting out a sigh.

My dress was all torn, so I simply put on my underwear and grabbed one of his shirts lying on the arm of the couch to wear.

I crossed my arms, staring around the room with narrowed eyes.

"Where should I start?" The question echoed in my mind as I chewed on my fingers. Then my eyes caught an object at the far end of the room.

I moved closer to identify what it was, and when I realized it was a safe—left open—I grinned slyly.

Perfect.

There could be answers inside. You never know.

My breath left my lungs as I looked at its contents.

My photos were scattered everywhere. The one I took on my eleventh birthday was also there; I had been searching everywhere for it.

I remembered leaving it in the drawer in my room—how did it end up here?

My baby photos were also inside, and one in particular stunned me.

It was a photo of a blonde woman holding a small baby in her arms which looked exactly like me. The child had the same hair and eye color as the woman. The striking resemblance was clear.

There was another photo too—a tall, gorgeous man with the same woman, both looking loved-up.

I was too confused to fix the scattered puzzles, but it only started to make sense when I found the DNA results and a sworn will with a blood thumbprint as a signature.

My brows furrowed in confusion as I read the heading.

'I, Elisabeth Domino, give every right of child ownership for Bella Valetti Domino to Caleb Valetti.'

Elisabeth was definitely the blonde, and Caleb Valetti was the man who held her waist in the picture, all smiley.

But... who was Bella...? Bella Domino Valetti? And why was Elisabeth Domino signing her off to Caleb?

Then the background profile surfaced.

'Name: Rainey Fabio Wyatt (formerly living under the name, Bella Domino Valetti)

Occupation: Florist

Location: Silver Coast, Italy.'

My lips trembled in shock as the paper fell out of my hands.

Was Elisabeth my mother?

Why did Dad never say anything about her? Whenever I asked about my mom, he'd always bring up a different topic to bury my question.

So, this was it. I was only a child born out of surrogacy. I really never meant anything...

And worse... Was I Silas's stepsister?

If Elisabeth were truly my mom, why did Dad allow her to do it? And how did I even manage to get back to Dad after she signed me off?

I grabbed my head.

I was losing my mind. I was going crazy. Truly crazy.

Silas had to answer this. He had to make this clear to me.

And what the hell did that title "the hidden child" mean?

Just as I was about to tuck the papers back in the safe, he showed up.

Halting at the door, he watched me in utter shock. He sure didn't expect me to find out. Not so soon.

He scolded me for intruding on his privacy, but it was part of my life, if not my whole life.

"I can't believe my entire identity has been a lie all these years," I sniffed. "I thought I had a loving father, someone who cared, but he kept the truth from me too."

"You caused this yourself, Rainey," Silas hissed, returning the files to the safe and locking it.

"How?!" I yelled, my veins bulging. "After twenty-two years, I just found out my father is none other than a Mafia leader who doesn't pass a day without getting his hands dirty with human blood."

Silas stepped closer, roughly yanking my jaw. "Former Mafia leader—he's dead. And just to clarify, we don't kill without a reason."

I scoffed, slapping his hand away. "Why did you kill Dad? Cause he deserved it? And Mr. Miranda? He deserved death too? You're going to kill me soon, right?"

"No," he growled like a pervert. "You haven't served your purpose yet."

"Right," I snickered. "I'm just a damn goat waiting to be slaughtered."

"Miranda called death for himself," he began. "He messed with the Mafia, and we don't forgive, especially not when he keeps repeating the same mistake."

I closed the space between us, my eyes boring into his. "What about Dad? What was his offense? Did he just mess with the Almighty Mafia gang too? And Elisabeth? Where the hell is she?"

"Elisabeth was a bitch, Rainey—"

"Rainey or Bella Domino Valetti?" I cut in.

He shrugged, less concerned. "I guess you found out about the truth already."

"Why did that surrogacy happen? Why did Dad allow it?" I had broken down in tears already. The truth was too heavy for me to bear.

"Father loved Elisabeth so much. It was only supposed to be a surrogacy—just business, but he treated her more, gave her his name, and she messed up."

"And she got killed too? I never got to know her."

"She's the reason why everything has happened and is still happening. She ran away with you, took the most precious gem from the Mafia. 'Took?" He scoffed, rolling his eyes at no one in particular. "She stole it. She stole the Blood Key and put it in your dad's possession."

"I want to know what happened to her," I sobbed, my eyes teary and my voice croaking. "Tell me what really happened to her."

Silas held my face so firmly that I almost melted in his grip.

"The Mafia didn't kill Elisabeth… Your father, Fabio Wyatt, did."

I pushed him away, shooting a scornful look at him.

"What? Dad had problems slaughtering a chicken for Thanksgiving; how could he kill a human? His wife?"

I just couldn't believe my ears.

Silas scoffed, moving to sit at the edge of his bed.

"Well, guess he's not so good at murdering animals, but humans are his specialty," he said. "Fabio Wyatt slaughtered Elisabeth. Believe what you hear, Tequila."
